Croat, Bosnian Muslim War Crimes

Croat Blood Spattered Flash

Turkey: Four street evangelists jailed

Even as hundreds of thousands demonstrate in favor of secular government in Turkey, the Turkish government again demonstrates that it is not interested in according all religious groups equality of rights.
"Turkey: Four Street Evangelists Jailed," from
Compass Direct:
ISTANBUL, April 27 (Compass Direct News) – Police jailed four Christian street evangelists in Istanbul for “missionary activity” this week, even as government officials openly defended the right of all religious groups to carry out evangelistic work in Turkey.
Officials released U.S. citizen David Byle this evening, more than 48 hours after he was arrested along with a Korean and two Turkish Christians, his wife said.
Christian sources maintained that Turkey plans to deport the Korean believer, though further details remain unknown.
The four men were detained Wednesday afternoon (April 25) while sharing their Christian faith with passersby at a park in Istanbul’s Taksim district.
Speaking earlier to Compass from his detention cell at the new foreigners branch of the Turkish security police in Kumkapi, Byle said that an official police report charged the evangelists with missionary activity, disturbing the peace and insulting Islam.

UN Kosovo Mission Ends

Kosovo-Metohija Serbs left with a trace of hope: Serbian girl attending school in Kosovo ghetto Ranilug. Photo: Jelena Milovanovic.
Verbeke: No Prejudging, No Pressure, No Haste
At the end of a three-day UN Security Council fact-finding mission, head of the delegation, Belgian Ambassador Johan Verbeke said on Saturday that resolving the important Kosovo-Metohija issue should neither be prejudged, nor hastened by the artificial deadlines, and that all Security Council member states should reach a decision on the issue through mutual agreement and in peace.
“We will work on the issue without any prejudging and in peace,” Verbeke told a press conference at the Pristina airport at the end of the mission’s visit to Kosovo-Metohija province, assessing that there had to be allowance for a natural process of debate and agreement-reaching.
“We have not yet come to any conclusions, and we will not make haste, we will explain all the parameters and set an equation,” the Belgian diplomat added.
Verbeke announced that sometime next week, the mission would make a report on its visit to Kosovo.

NATO/KLA Partnership in Kosovo Province

UN Security Council Ambassadors representing 15 states on Friday talked with the UN/NATO officials stationed in the Serbian province, of which two German nationals hold the main positions — Joachim Ruecker as the head of UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) and Roland Kather, head of the NATO troops in Kosovo-Metohija, i.e. KFOR (Kosovo Force) troops.
Both are chiefly responsible for allowing the Apartheid to get entrenched in the southern Serbian province, for turning the blind eye to ghettoized Serbs and for complete lack of security for non-Albanians who have not been expelled from the region. It is also their deceiving reports, presenting situation in the province in rosy hues, that have prompted Serbia and Russia to request the UNSC delegation to visit the region and learn the truth.
UN Ambassadors also talked with the Albanian war criminal Agim Ceku, playing the role of “prime minister” of the Serbian province, and with the head separatist Fatmir Sejdiu, acting as the “president” of the region. According to the reports, the war criminal is very happy with the way the meeting went and confirmed all they had to say basically boils down to “independence, independence, independence.”
Unlike the Serbs, both in Belgrade and in Kosovo-Metohija, Albanian separatists did not offer any documentation or evidence that would back their claims that everything is better for everyone in every way under their criminal rule, but limited their presentation on sticking to their story: “We presented our arguments that Kosovo is thinking, acting and functioning as a real state,” said the war criminal. “We elaborated why Kosovo has to be independent and why there cannot be other solutions,” said separatist Sejdiu, instructing that “after this visit, it is the time for Kosovo’s status to be decided.”

UN Kosovo Mission: Supervised Autonomy

Speaking of the Devil...
Around the same time when 15 Ambassadors of the UN Security Council were informed by the members of Serbian government about the real situation in southern Serbian province, which happens to be very different from the one presented by the rosy reports Ruecker’s office keeps submitting to the UN from his Pristina parlor, Ranko Zdravkovic, a Serb from Gorazdevac in Kosovo-Metohija province, was savagely beaten by two Albanians at the gas station near the town of Pec.
“I stopped by the gas station and while I was waiting in queue two Albanians came up to me and started beating me for no reason. I fell next to my car after several punches, while they continued to hit me, cursing and threatening to slit my throat,” Zdravkovic, who managed to escape after a woman he was driving started calling for help, was quoted.
Zdravkovic sustained numerous injuries to his head and chest and was taken to the emergency hospital unit for urgent medical assistance.

UN Mission to Kosovo Manipulated to Avoid Facing Facts

Will the UN Mission establish facts, or just meet with corrupt UN and NATO employees falsifying Kosovo reports for the past eight years?

Keeping Tight Lid on Essential Bits of Information
Illustrating just how tight the lid on essential bits of information in the West really is, article by the Russian New York correspondent revealing the crucial information about current UNSC Mission to Kosovo-Metohija from behind the scenes that Western news agencies keep hidden from public is, sadly, even in Russian news left without English translation.
Daily Kommersant, a Soros-funded enterprise, which does have an English section where articles are translated, this time around chose to post a slightly touched-up version of Reuters’ bland, non-informative piece of drivel about the UNSC Mission instead of translation of Gornostaev’s article, with the same photo of Vitaly Churkin, suggesting it is mirroring the article in Russian, although the two aren’t even vaguely related.

Putting an End to Lunacy and Hysteria

Kosovo Independence Will Not Pass
A solution for the future status of Kosovo-Metohija based on the plan drafted by the former Finnish president Martti Ahtisaari will not get through the UN Security Council, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov said on Tuesday.
“We have stated that we will not support a decision that is not backed by both parties to the conflict [the Serbs and Albanians] at the UN Security Council. The council will not pass a resolution based on the Ahtisaari plan,” Titov said according to the Interfax new agency.
Itar-Tass news agency reported that Russian diplomat warned that in case of an explosion of violence in Kosovo-Metohija province, Russia would demand that the Security Council considered the question whether it would make any sense to continue the political process.

DENYING ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IN TIMES SQUARE

By Charles Johnson
Times Square in Manhattan was the scene of a very strange, very professionally-staged demonstration yesterday by a Turkish group denying the Armenian genocide. An LGF reader sent the link with photographs of this event, featuring a Pinocchio statue representing “Armenian lies.”
Turkey, of course, is trying to be accepted into the European Union, and people keep bringing up the murders and persecution of Armenians. This is the first wave of a highly-funded public relations campaign to deny Turkey’s crimes.

Albanians Set Fire to Serb-Owned Kosovo Forests

In last four days Albanians have burned over 200 hectares (490 acres) of Serb-owned forests in Kosovo-Metohija.
Albanian Way of Hijacking Kosovo Province — Burn It All!
After razing to the ground over 150 Serbian churches and monasteries, there are very few left to destroy and those that still remain are heavily guarded day and night by the foreign troops. The ground where glorious medieval Christian churches once stood is today mostly cleared and the new mosques, memorials and monuments to terrorist KLA/UCK have been erected in their place.
A number of Serbian villages have also been burned during the NATO-brought “peace”, since the summer of 1999, especially during the March 2004 Kristallnacht, another mass expulsion of Serbian Kosovo-Metohija residents. Three years ago, 7 Serbian villages were entirely wiped off the earth, along with 800 Serbian houses scattered in the tiny ghettos throughout.
But in a province that has been Serbian for over a millennium, there is still much more to destroy, more ways to force the remaining non-Albanians to flee, more devastation to cause in order to erase ten centuries of history and change the face of the region for good.

Ahtisaari’s Proposal Is Dead

Exhibiting prejudice, partiality and bias, Martti Ahtisaari has lost trust and credibility of a mediator. Ahtisaari’s image pasted over the Albanian flag, protest banner from Belgrade demonstrations, February 28, 2007.

Ahtisaari: Discredited Mediator With Failed Proposal
Despite the shockingly treacherous behavior on behalf of some U.S. lawmakers and State Department bureaucrats, who are openly advocating surrender to jihadist demands and territorial concessions over Serbia’s back, in hope to placate the insatiable beast of Islamic fundamentalism, there is a growing awareness of the dangers Ahtisaari’s proposal for tearing up a sovereign state entails.
On his recent visit to Serbia, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov pronounced Ahtisaari’s proposal for Serbian Kosovo province officially dead, since its objective was not to find a viable solution that would ensure peace and stability in the region. Instead, Ahtisaari from the very start focused on fulfilling the wishes of Albanian Muslim separatists to secede southern Serbian province and be given a gift of a state on Serbian territory.
By directly prohibiting discussion about any other possible solution to the Kosovo province problem during the mock-negotiations he presided over, by openly siding with Albanian separatists, by advocating dismemberment of a sovereign state and, thereby, proposing violation of the international laws, by recommending a “solution” which would reward terrorism, ethnic cleansing and armed insurrection as valid means for attaining political goals, former Finnish president has been irreparably discredited as an international mediator.

Anti-Terrorist Raid On Serbia’s Jihadists

Members of the Serbian Special Anti-Terrorist Police Unit (SAJ) in action.
Rooting Out Serbia’s Jihadists
Serbian Ministry of Interior issued a brief statement Friday, informing that the anti-terrorist police unit shot dead the leader of a Muslim terrorist group in a dawn raid on three village houses in predominantly Muslim region of Raska (Sandzak), where recently a jihadist training camp was found, along with the large cache of weapons and explosives.
A statement said police surrounded three houses in Donja Trnava, near Novi Pazar, around 4:50 a.m., after a tipoff that Ismail Prentic, 28, head of Wahhabi terrorist group in Raska region, with links to Bosnian and other jihadist terrorist groups, was hiding there. Police officers were attacked by a pack of dogs as they approached the entrance of one of the houses and then came under attack by grenades and gunfire which injured one police officer. The terrorists tried to flee throwing hand grenades behind them, when police opened fire killing Prentic and injuring Senad Ramovic, 34.
Beta news agency said Ramovic was in critical condition with several gunshot wounds in a Novi Pazar hospital, while the third member of the terrorist group, Safet Becirovic, 59, was arrested.
In Serbian province of Kosovo-Metohija Prentic was described as “armed and dangerous,” and wanted for illegal firearms possession and trafficking weapons and explosives for the planned attack on the international KFOR troops stationed in the province, according to the recent NATO intelligence report that was leaked to media.

Kosovo Battle: Law Vs. Lawlessness

China and Russia Oppose Dismemberment of Serbian State
Current whirlwind of diplomatic activity on behalf of Serbian government seeking to preserve their state highlights strong support of both Russia and China, permanent members of the UN Security Council with the power of veto.
Urging respect for currently binding UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which reaffirms Kosovo-Metohija province as an integral part of Serbia, China’s Vice Premier Hui Liangyu stressed that “China is against an imposed solution to Kosovo-Metohija status and the imposition of deadlines for finding a solution, adding that a compromise resolution must be reached through talks between Belgrade and Pristina.”
Today, Belgrade has received another confirmation of the equally firm support from the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, who expressed his conviction that the UN Security Council will not trample over the Resolution 1244 which safeguards the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia and repeated, for the thousandth time, that Russia is resolutely “in favor of continued dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina,” stressing that “a stable solution cannot be reached without an agreement, and there can be no agreement without negotiations.”

LAST ONE OUT OF EUROPE TURN OFF THE LIGHTS

By Charles Johnson
The European Union is the ultimate passive aggressive nanny state, and now they’ve made something a crime that they deliberately do not define in precise terms; it’s Orwell’s 1984, except Big Brother is your dull-eyed pedantic cousin:
LUXEMBOURG (AFP) - The European Union on Thursday made inciting racism and xenophobia crimes throughout its 27 member states in a landmark decision tempered by caveats to appease free speech concerns.
The new deal specifies one- to three-year prison terms be available for incitement to violence or hatred “against a group of persons or a member of such a group defined by reference to race, colour, religion, descent or national or ethnic origin”.
That could include the sending of “tracts, pictures or other material.”
The deal, reached by EU justice ministers in Luxembourg, display’s “Europe’s ”common moral values", EU Justice Commissioner Franco Frattini told reporters.
In a twisted way, this ludicrous deal stems from a good impulse that itself stems from a huge, deserved sense of guilt: to combat Holocaust denial. But you can be absolutely certain that the first groups to take advantage of these new legal powers will be the highly aggressive Islamists—who are often the same people who deny the Holocaust, and at the same time wish for a new, improved one.
Yes, it’s Orwell Day at LGF. The old crank is spinning like an Iranian centrifuge.

"We didn't do this for ourselves, but for our religion ... Our religion is being destroyed. Let this be a lesson to enemies of our religion."

Answering a perceived -- and even then, figurative -- "attack" with a literal one. More on this story. "Bible attack suspects detained," from CNN:
MALATYA, Turkey (AP) -- Police detained five more people Thursday in connection with an attack on a Christian publishing house that killed three employees, doubling the number of suspects in custody, a Turkish official said.
One group of suspects detained in the slayings Wednesday told investigators they carried out the killings to protect Islam, a Turkish newspaper reported.
The attack added to concerns in Europe about whether this predominantly Muslim country -- which is bidding for EU membership -- can protect its religious minorities. It also underlined concerns about rising Turkish nationalism and hostility toward non-Muslims.
"We didn't do this for ourselves, but for our religion," Hurriyet newspaper quoted a suspect as saying. "Our religion is being destroyed. Let this be a lesson to enemies of our religion."
The paper did not name the suspect. Local media said the suspects were students, and that the residence where they were staying belongs to an Islamic foundation.
On Wednesday, police detained four youths, aged 19-20, as well as a fifth who underwent surgery for head injuries after he parently tried to escape by jumping from a window at the Zirve publishing house in the central city of Malatya.
Malatya Governor Halil Ibrahim Dasoz said another five suspects, detained Thursday, were of the same age as those taken into custody on the day of the attack. He did not say whether the group detained on Thursday had been at the scene of the attack, saying only that they had been picked up at "various locations."
The three victims -- a German and two Turkish citizens -- were found with their hands and legs bound and their throats slit at the publishing house. Police went to the scene after receiving calls about a fight, Milliyet newspaper reported. The five suspects detained Wednesday had been carrying copies of a letter that read: "We five are brothers. We are going to our deaths. We may not return," according to the state-run Anatolia news agency.
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said the attack had hurt his country's image abroad, and was aimed at "Turkey's peace, Turkey's tradition of tolerance and Turkey's stability."
Ask the Armenians about that, among so many others.
[...]
The German man had been living in Malatya since 2003. Anatolia identified him as 46-year-old Tilman Ekkehart Geske. It was the latest in a string of attacks on Turkey's Christian community -- which comprises less than 1 percent of the 70-million population.
[...]
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier condemned the attack "in the strongest terms," and said he expected Turkish authorities would "do everything to clear up this crime completely and bring those responsible to justice."
German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrat Party -- which opposes Turkey's bid to join the EU -- said the attacks showed the country's shortcomings in protecting religious freedoms.
"The Turkish state is still far from the freedom of religion that marks Europe," the party's general secretary, Ronald Pofalla, said in a statement.
Turkey began EU membership negotiations in October 2005 but talks have stalled over Turkey's refusal to formally recognize EU-member Cyprus. The country is under intense pressure to improve human rights and to expand religious freedoms and free speech as part of its membership bid. A group of 150 lit candles and unfolded a banner that read "We are all Christians" in downtown Istanbul to protest the attack and show solidarity with the Christian community.
But there was far less public outcry than with Dink's murder, which was followed by widespread protests and condemnations. More than 100,000 people marched at Dink's funeral. Malatya is known as a hotbed of nationalists, and is also the hometown of Mehmet Ali Agca, who shot Pope John Paul II in 1981.

Kosovo Province, Europe’s Shame: Beatings, Torture and Terror With UNMIK Ruecker’s Blessing

The Coordinating Center for Kosovo-Metohija reported on Wednesday that Kosovo Albanian police and KFOR arrested this morning representative of Serbian forestry company “Srbijasume” Milan Mirkovic from Strbac.
According to the Coordinating Center report, at 4 a.m. members of the ethnic Albanian special police and KFOR stormed the home of Milan Mirkovic, the head of the Serbia Forests company in Strpce, and conducted a search in a brutal, heavy handed and destructive manner. Following two hours of harassment and beatings, during which Milan and his sons Nikola and Jovan were kept tied up, Milan was arrested.
“Mirkovic’s sons bear the marks of torture and beatings by the brutal Albanian police who carried out the ethnically-motivated torture over the Serbs before the eyes of KFOR members and who completely demolished the Mirkovic house after finding legally owned, licensed hunting guns,” the statement said.
According to Forest company director’s lawyer, Dragan Veljkovic, Mr. Mirkovic was again brutally beaten by the Albanians in the Urosevac police station where he was taken “for questioning.” He was kept in prison for the next 72 hours, after he gave a statement, reports Tanjug.
“Mirkovic was brought to the Urosevac police station bleeding, with visible head wounds,” said Veljkovic, confirming that his client was beaten in the police station again for half an hour, by the four or five Albanians who were calling him “chetnik” and a “paramilitary.”

Three Christians murdered in attack on Turkish Bible publisher

"Nationalists" were offended by their proselytizing.
"Report: 3 killed in attack on publishing house that prints Bibles in Turkey," from
The Associated Press, with thanks to all who sent this in:
ISTANBUL, Turkey: Assailants killed three people Wednesday at a publishing house that distributed Bibles, in the latest attack apparently targeting Turkey's tiny Christian minority.
The three victims were found with their throats slit and their hands and legs bound, Malatya Gov. Ibrahim Dasoz said. One was found still alive, and was taken to the hospital but later died, he said, adding that one victim may have been German.
None of the victims' nationalities could immediately be confirmed.
A fourth man who jumped from a window to escape was hospitalized with injuries, officials said. Dr. Murat Cem Miman told CNN-Turk television that the man was undergoing surgery for head trauma.
Police detained four suspects, and were investigating whether the man who jumped from the window could have been one of the attackers, Dasoz said. Police were expected to release information about the attack later Wednesday.
The Zirve publishing house, in the city of Malatya, has been the site of previous protests by nationalists accusing it of proselytizing in this 99-percent Muslim but secular country, Dogan news agency reported.
Zirve's general manager told CNN-Turk that his employees had recently been threatened. "We know that they have been receiving some threats," Hamza Ozant said, but could not say who the threats came from....
Attacks have become more common against members of Turkey's tiny Christian community, which comprises less than 1 percent of the population, and concerns have grown that nationalism and hostility toward non-Muslims are rising.

All Roads Lead to Belgrade: Misquotitis Spreading Like Wildfire

As the UN Security Council’s fact-finding mission to Serbian Kosovo province is approaching, Belgrade is quickly turning into Europe’s main destination hosting, this week alone, the highest representatives of a number of states, including China, Russia, Norway, Greece and Austria.
Being that Kosovo-Metohija province has turned to be as indispensable to the U.S. State Department as it has been to Serbian nation for the past ten centuries, if not more, it shouldn’t be surprising that at the very time when Serbia’s diplomatic activity aimed at preserving its borders and territorial integrity has shifted into a high gear, the pressure on Serbian government officials to relinquish the cradle of their state has also been brought to the point of a searing heat. The only problem is that it seems Western officials exerting the most pressure would prefer to have their thuggish activities kept away from the public as much as possible, and reserved for Serbian officials alone, along with the initiated bureaucratic circles from which the pressure can be steadily increased.
Since this wish of theirs can’t be fulfilled, we end up in a cheap political burlesque over Kosovo-Metohija province where boorish statements and countless threats are being hurled at Serbia from various Western strongmen, only to be immediately withdrawn as soon as they hit the headlines — all of a sudden, everyone seems to be misquoted, misunderstood and misinterpreted.

New York Times: Marlise Simons, Loyal Servant of Total Propaganda

One of the most loyal servants of total propaganda this side of Atlantic, Marlise Simons of New York Times, apparently decided she won’t let the 15 United Nations Judges off the hook as long as there is a trace of agility left in her fingers.
Despite the World Court’s ruling that exonerated state of Serbia of involvement in the Bosnian war, Comrade Simons — who figures she knows better — is doing her very best to “prove” Serbia IS guilty for the Bosnian war and nobody will tell her otherwise. And if she can’t actually prove a thing, the least she can do for NY Times/State Department cause is to try to smear the Court and make a lot of noise while doing the dirty work someone (fer chris'sake!) has to do.
Comrade Simons has found a loving home in New York Times Politburo which, for years “has been riding a [...] propaganda bandwagon on the wars and dismantlement of the former Yugoslavia — but in contrast to its performance over Iraq’s non-existent WMDs, once the Times climbed aboard this bandwagon, in the early 1990s, it never climbed back down again.”
A dedicated Dark Arts practitioner, New York Times is known for militant weeding of its insufficiently obedient servants. Strict observance of the party discipline even KGB would be envious of means occasional sacrificing of their finest reporters, such as David Binder, an actual journalist, who wrote some of the best articles on the former Yugoslavia he was covering for many years. Nevertheless, Binder “had been largely removed from this assignment by the end of 1993, quite obviously because he did not toe this party line but had continued to file reports that overstepped it, writing more complex analyses that did not focus simply on Serb villainy.”
Hence, Marlise Simons it is.
ICJ Ruling is Good!
As soon as the ICJ’s exonerating ruling for Serbia was read, attempting to spin the verdict that must’ve been terribly disappointing, the New York Times and their head anti-Serb propagandist Simons tried to make it look like Serbophobes, after all, did have something to celebrate too.

Please Oppose Congressional Resolutions Urging Detachment of Kosovo From Serbia

American Council for Kosovo: Special Alert
American Council for Kosovo Calls on All Americans:
Tell Your Senators and Congressman Today: Please Oppose Congressional Resolutions Urging Forcible and Illegal Detachment of Kosovo and Metohija from Democratic Serbia!
It is anticipated that Congress may soon consider two similar non-binding resolutions endorsing an independent Kosovo. (In the Senate, S. Res 135, and in the House of Representatives H. Res. 36). While these resolutions would not have the force of law, their passage would be important political endorsement of a misguided U.S. State Department and United Nations policy, which is in desperate need of support as the one-sided and discredited Ahtisaari plan faces collapse in the Security Council.
Since democratic Serbia will not agree to amputation of 15 percent of its territory, these resolutions effectively demand that such a separation be imposed on Serbia in violation of the U.N. Charter, the Helsinki Final Act, Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999, and Serbia’s own constitution, which, adopted with overwhelming public approval, defines Kosovo and Metohija as an integral part of Serbia.
The American Council for Kosovo urgently calls on you: Please contact your Senators and Congressman today to request — respectfully but firmly — that they oppose these misguided and counterproductive resolutions. Please note the following links and suggested messages. (We suggest e-mail as the best way for an immediate impact, but phone calls or hard copy letters can also be used.)

Europe to donate $5.2 million to Palestinian presidency

The jizya just keeps flowing. "Europe to donate $5,2 million to Palestinian presidency," from Agence France Presse, with thanks to DFS:
RAMALLAH: Five European countries and the European Commission signed an accord on Friday under which they will give $5.2 million for administrative reforms within the Palestinian presidency. The agreement was signed at President Mahmoud Abbas' office by his chief of staff, Rafiq al-Husseini, and representatives from Britain, Denmark, Italy, Norway and Sweden. "This aid will allow us to improve the work, the performance and the running of the presidency," Husseini said after the signing.
The European Union imposed an embargo on direct aid to the Palestinian Authority last year after Hamas won elections and formed a Cabinet. Norway, which is not part of the bloc, has recognized the new unity Cabinet and pledged to resume direct aid, but the EU has said it would continue to channel donor funds via mechanisms that bypass the government.
The international relief agency Oxfam on Friday urged the EU to resume aid. "Europe's foreign ministers should not miss the opportunity of their forthcoming meeting ... to restore the faith of Palestinians in the European Union," Oxfam International Executive Director Jeremy Hobbs said. The ministers are due to hold their talks on April 23 and 24 in Luxembourg.
"With Palestinian institutions collapsing and insecurity growing, the resumption of international aid to the Palestinian Authority is a necessary step to preventing further suffering and securing a just and lasting settlement on the basis of international law," said Hobbs.
And what makes Hobbs think that any "Palestinians" are interested in securing a just and lasting settlement on the basis of international law? When has any such "Palestinian" ever been seen, since "Palestinians" were invented in the 1960s?

Housebreaking Andreas Zobel

(Un)Diplomatic Scandal
After discarding every semblance of diplomacy to, once again, bluntly offend not only the citizens of the state where he is serving as an ambassador, but also the state institutions, including the highest ones, and government representatives, after threatening host state with further dismemberment unless Kosovo-Metohija province is signed off, after forcing official Hungary to distance itself from the suggestion it is eyeballing another chunk of Serbia, after prompting Russian Foreign Ministry to get involved in order to explain the purpose of the scheduled UN Security Council fact-finding mission to Kosovo province, after attempting to dodge responsibility for his words by blaming Beta news agency reporter and after learning there is an audio recording of his memorable performance, Andreas Zobel apologized.
In a news conference called Thursday, Zobel told journalists he apologized for the possible impression that he had no understanding for his host country, Serbia, and for making “possibly unclear remarks that Serbia’s resolute opposition to Kosovo’s independence might lead to destabilization of Vojvodina and southern Serbia.”
“All my statements, whether true or misconstrued, could only be assigned to myself personally,” Zobel said, adding that his statements didn’t reflect the position of the state of Germany or the European Union.
Meanwhile, Serbian government issued a statement confirming that Serbian Ambassador to Germany Ognjen Pribicevic has delivered Serbia’s official letter of protest to the German government following Zobel’s earlier remarks, which Belgrade characterized as “the most impertinent meddling into Serbia’s affairs.” Stopping short of requesting Zobel’s recall, the letter of protest states that Belgrade demanded clarification on whether Zobel’s observations reflected Berlin’s official position.

Germany: Muslim council demands church privileges for Islam

Eurabia Alert: "Muslim council demands church privileges for Islam," from DPA, with thanks to Fjordman:
Cologne, Germany (dpa) - An umbrella group set up this week by Muslims in Germany called Thursday for Islam to be granted many of the same legal privileges as the main Christian churches and Judaism.
Ayyub Axel Koehler, the German Muslim leader who is taking the first, six-month turn as spokesman for the Muslim Coordination Council, said in Cologne, "Islamic instruction in public schools, running Islamic cemeteries: you have to have legal status first."
Germany has more than 3.2 million residents of Muslim heritage in an overall population of 82 million. Their mosques are owned by incorporated societies with no especial religious status under German law.
"We are concerned about the integration of Islam and Muslims into the German legal system," said Koehler, who heads the German Council of Muslims, one of four rival bodies that established the umbrella group.
He said that wherever German law granted rights to a "religious community," a legal term embracing the Catholic and Lutheran churches and the Jewish community, Islam ought to be included as well.

Barbarians At Our Gates: Andreas Zobel, German Ambassador to Serbia

A Horrible Voice, Bad Breeding and a Vulgar Manner
Andreas Zobel would undoubtedly be surprised to learn that ancient Greek dramatist Aristophanes wrote about him almost twenty five hundred years ago: “You have all the characteristics of a politician: a horrible voice, bad breeding, and a vulgar manner.” But that’s how marvelous the Greeks truly are.
Speaking at the meeting of the Forum for International Relations of the European Movement in Serbia held Wednesday, German ambassador, well known for his arrogance and poorly veiled contempt for Serbian nation, history and the country hosting him, decided to let go of all pretense and tell the world what he really thinks should be done with Serbia.
According to Beta reporter, Zobel believes not only Kosovo-Metohija province, but also Vojvodina and Raska region (Sandzak) should be amputated, since neither fully belongs to Serbian state anyway: Serbia’s German guest prefers Albanian separatist version of history, according to which Kosovo-Metohija “officially became Serbian land” only in 1912, he deems Vojvodina can rightfully be claimed by Hungary because it was officially adjoined to Serbia in 1918, and Raska region, populated mostly by Muslims, may also “flare up,” apparently with Zobel’s blessing, being that those Muslims may not want to live with Serbs either, just like Albanian Muslim separatists in Kosovo-Metohija province don’t.
In short, it became clear ambassador Zobel would be quite satisfied and full of understanding if Serbian state, where he was sent to represent his country’s goodwill, would be dismembered entirely, and only Belgrade, where Zobel’s second home is, were to remain.

POPOVIC SAYS SERBIAN GOVERNMENT EXPECTS GERMANY'S RESPONSE

BELGRADE (Tanjug) - The Serbian government expects Germany's response to a protest note sent on the occasion of a statement of German Ambassador to Serbia Andreas Zobel, Serbian Minister of Science and Environment Protection Aleksandar Popovic told a news conference at the Serbian government."The Serbian government or its members will not say anything about this issue until Germany's response arrives," Popovic said.He stressed that Serbia was a serious country and that the protest note had been sent through the usual diplomatic channels.Popovic said that the "Serbian government appropriately defends the country's interests and reacts to foreign policy activities of other countries," and added that the proposal to send a protest note had been formulated on the government's session and attached to a statement for the media. This was his response to journalists' question whether the Serbian government had on Thursday discussed declaring Ambassador Zobel a persona non grata.sk/vg

Zobel: Kosovo to Be Given Supervised Independence as Soon as Possible

BELGRADE (Beta) - German Ambassador to Serbia Andreas Zobel (Photo) said on April 11 that the issue of Kosovo should be resolved as soon as possible in the form of "supervised independence," explaining that otherwise, the problems could open in Vojvodina and Sandzak. At a meeting of the Forum for International Relations of the European Movement in Serbia, Zobel stressed that "it is not true" that Kosovo has always been a part of Serbia, because, as he said, Kosovo became part of Serbia in 1912 "after a long time." He recalled that Vojvodina became a part of Serbia in 1918, adding that if Serbia became destabilized, Hungary could "insist on Vojvodina."Zobel added that Martti Ahtisaari's proposal, envisaging supervised independence for Kosovo, "is not good, but is the best of all the bad solutions."Zobel further said Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, President Boris Tadic and their, as he called, "wise advisors," could not explain to him the precise meaning of the formula "more than autonomy, less than independence." Zobel added that in his opinion, Serbia "deserves a better political elite.""Instead of insisting that Kosovo's borders be part of Serbia's borders, it is better to insist that Serbia and Kosovo should be in the EU in 20 to 25 years," the German ambassador concluded.

Palestinian Nazis and Nancy Pelosi

"The Hour [Resurrection] will not take place until the Muslims fight the Jews and the Muslims kill them, and the rock and the tree will say: Oh, Muslim, servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, kill him!'" -- Hamas spokesman, Dr. Ismail Radwan, Palestinian Authority TV, March 30, 2007

Maybe it's the fact that I'm a Jew that I take the determination of Hamas to kill me personally; or that I find it morally repellent that the Speaker of the House should pay a friendly call on the dictator of Damascus who hosts, protects and arms these genocidal jihadis, but I do. I find it equally depressing that my fellow Jews who fund the Democratic Party (an estimated 80% of its donations no less), and my fellow Americans who are not Jews and vote Democratic but do not wish Jews like me dead, are not burning up the phone lines, and crashing the Internet with howls of protest over their Party's collusion with our contemporary Hitlers. Because that is what they are. They are not "Hitlers" in the sense that Cindy Sheehan thinks George Bush is Hitler as a metaphor of her hatred for her her country. They are Hitlers in the sense that they are Hitlers. They want Jews dead. They are preparing the next war to see that the Jews are dead. And they will not rest until they complete the final solution or until they are stopped.
American defenders of the Nazi Axis which includes Hezbollah and Iran -- are located squarely on the left side of the political spectrum. The movement to stop America from stopping Iran has already begun. The voices of this fifth column include Cindy Sheehan, Rosie O'Donnell, Medea Benjamin, and their "anti-war" comrades at MoveOn.org. It would be a mistake to regard these individuals as marginal. They are the same crowd that brought us the war against the war in Iraq.

Genocide of Jews remains Hamas goal
by Itamar Marcus and Barbara Crook
Palestinian Media Watch
pmw@pmw.org.il

As Hamas seeks international recognition by softening its tone in English, in Arabic it continues the calls for genocide of Jews. In a recent sermon on PA TV, Hamas spokesman Dr. Ismail Radwan made it clear that the classical Hamas ideology had not changed, including its continued incorporation of extremist Islamic beliefs into Hamas ideology and policy. He reiterated:
1. The Hour of the Islamic Resurrection and End of Time is literally dependent on the killing of Jews by Muslims.
2. The remaining Jews will unsuccessfully attempt to hide, as the rocks and trees will expose them, calling out "there is a Jew behind me, kill him!" 3. "Palestine& will be liberated through the rifle," a euphemism meaning that Israel will be destroyed through violence.
The Hamas spokesman ended with prayers to Allah to "take" Israel and the USA.
The following is the text of the Hamas spokesman's call for genocide of Jews:
The Hamas spokesman, Dr. Ismail Radwan, PA TV, March 30, 2007

The Hour [Resurrection] will not take place until the Muslims fight the Jews and the Muslims kill them, and the rock and the tree will say: "Oh, Muslim, servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, kill him!"
We must remind our Arab and Muslim nation, its leaders and people, its scholars and students, remind them that Palestine and the Al Aqsa mosque will not be liberated through summits nor by international resolutions, but it will be liberated through the rifle. It will not be liberated through negotiations, but through the rifle, since this occupation knows no language but the language of force& O Allah, strengthen Islam and Muslims, and bring victory to your Jihad-fighting worshipers, in Palestine and everywhere& Allah take the oppressor Jews and Americans and their supporters!

GERMANY: FAILED BOMB PLOT SEEN AS AL-QAEDA INITIATION TEST

By Robert Spencer
At the time of their arrest, "it had looked like an isolated plot because they declared they had been radicalized by the row over the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in European newspapers." Indeed, it often turns out that while one pretext is invoked as the immediate cause for a jihadist action, the fundamental motivation is the ideology of Islamic supremacism that seizes upon any and all pretexts to advance the cause. The problem is that Westerners continue to be fooled into thinking that if they address the pretext of the moment, the jihad will go away. Those who postured piously about respect for religious figures in the wake of the Muhammad cartoon controversy should reflect on the case of Jihad Hamad and Youssef el Hajdib.
"Terrorism In Germany: Failed Bomb Plot Seen As Al-Qaida Initiation Test," by Andreas Ulrich in Spiegel Online (thanks to all who sent this in):
Germany narrowly escaped what could have been its worst-ever terrorist attack last July when two bombs placed on trains failed to detonate. The case comes to trial in a Lebanese court this week with German police suspecting that the attack was an initiation test for potential al-Qaida recruits.
German authorities believe that the two Lebanese studentswho tried but failed to detonate self-made bombs in two German trains last July may have done so to qualify themselves for al-Qaida missions in Iraq.
The trial of the two alleged would-be bombers, Youssef el Hajdib, 21, Jihad Hamad, 20 and four other men starts on Wednesday in the Lebanese capital Beirut. Youssef al-Hajdib, who is in custody in a Berlin jail, is being tried in absentia.
Youssef and Jihad had made crude bombs from gas canisters filled with petrol and diesel and deposited them on two German regional trains hidden in large suitcases on July 31. They both boarded trains at Cologne's main train station and got off after depositing the bombs.
The devices, fitted with alarm clocks for timers, failed to detonate. If they had, they would have created a fireball up to 15 meters wide and hurled deadly shrapnel up to 100 meters, explosive experts said. It could have been the worst terrorist attack on German soil in the country's history.
They were arrested a few weeks later after being recognized from Cologne station's security camera footage. Youssef was detained in Germany and Jihad turned himself in to Lebanese authorities after hiding at his parents' house. At the time, it had looked like an isolated plot because they declared they had been radicalized by the row over the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in European newspapers.
But eight months on, after analyzing computer hard drives, mobile phone data, DNA traces and interrogation records, German authorities have reached a different conclusion -- that the attacks were commissioned by a man with links to al-Qaida as a test of courage to qualify them for attacks on US-led forces in Iraq.

Paschal Joy in Serbian Kosovo-Metohija

Peter Handke visiting Serbian 12th century Zociste Monastery, Pascha, Kosovo and Metohija, Serbia
For Kosovo-Metohija Serbs the Paschal joy has been complete with the arrival of one of the most cherished Serbian friends and guests, renowned Austrian author Peter Handke. Just like the previous year, Peter Handke has decided to spend most joyous Christian holidays with Serbs all but forgotten in tiny ghettos in Kosovo-Metohija province.
Together with Director of Berlin Theater Claus Peymann, actress Kaethe Reichel, playwright Jutta Ferbers and political scientist Eckart Spoo, Peter Handke celebrated Pascha in the villages of Velika Hoca and Orahovac, some 60km west from Pristina. Velika Hoca is famous for its 13 churches, some of them from medieval time. Today, these two villages represent the full extent of the tragedy of Serbian people in their southern province.

Rucker issues ethnic cleansing threats to Serbs

Mr R. at work
M. Bozinovich
Rucker issues ethnic cleansing threats to Serbs
The head of the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo, Joachim Rucker (Germany) was quoted by a Kosovo Albanian paper Zeri as saying that Mitrovica will be an “integrated town” a separatist code word used to describe an upcoming violence in order to ethnically cleanse the Serbs.
Serb hatred among ethnic Albanians has become a Kosovo Albanian social norm, like driving on the right side of a street, to such an extent that grenading a Serbian Church with a mortar is as routine as saying tungjatjeta by two Kosovo Albanians. Steeped in this morality of hatred, once Kosovo Albanian armed men enter Serb part of Mitrovica and engage in the “integration” campaign, Rucker could, like a Roman emperor Nero, sit back and enjoy modern day decapitations of Christians.
So when Rucker talks of “integrating” Serbs, Rucker talks about inflicting violence on Serbs… and all from a mouth of an international diplomat who is suppose to be impartial and whose reports to the UN the Security Council are suppose to be believed. It should then be no wonder that Rucker also opposes UN in sending a fact-finding mission to Kosovo. Rucker is on record, in the Kosovo Albanian paper, that “the request of Russia to send a SC delegation to Kosovo is unreasonable… because the international administration in Kosovo continually sends reports to New York about the situation in Kosovo.”
Rucker’s (op)position is swell if the Security Council is to believe that what he sends to New York is the truth. Apparently, however, the Security Council may have a haunch that, just perhaps, Rucker has been - well, perhaps not lying but probably stylizing his reports.

Catmeat Sheik Hilali Sacked, but not really…

Political Correctness is Killing Us: Encore!!!
Catmeat Sheik Hilali Sacked, but not really…
Hilali sacking claims are ‘a gross exaggeration’
Not so fast: You see, he is sacked except when he isn’t. He is ‘embarrassing’- except when he isn’t. Because after all he is a ‘good’ Muslim, (one recent poster even called him ‘a man of God’) and like it or not, he will be with us for as long as he lives. Unless of course he goes to the slammer for hate-speeches, incitement and terrorist activities, or our timid government strips him of citizenship and sends him back to Egypt. Fat chance!

Al-Qaeda Threatens Serbia's Muslim-populated south

NOVI PAZAR, Serbia-The discovery of a mountain cave packed with plastic explosives, masks and machine guns, and the recent arrests of men devoted to radical Islam, have fueled fears that extremists are trying to carve out a stronghold in this remote corner of Europe.
Police in southern Serbia's Sandzak region last month arrested six local Muslims and accused them of belonging to a fundamentalist Wahhabi sect, an austere brand of Sunni Islam promoted by extremists, including the Taliban, Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaida fighters.
Recently leaked Western intelligence reports allege that the tense, impoverished area, along with Muslim-dominated regions in neighboring Bosnia, are rich ground for recruiting so-called "white al-Qaida", Muslims with Western features who could easily blend into European or U.S. cities and carry out attacks.
Al-Qaida and other radical Islamic groups, the reports warn, may be trying to increase their influence in the Muslim-populated regions in the southern Europe to penetrate deeper into the continent.
The presence of radical Muslims in Sandzak, the poorest region of Serbia, is linked to the advent of mujahedeen foreign fighters who joined Bosnian Muslims in their battle against the Serbs in Bosnia's 1992-95 independence war. Sandzak's Muslims like to be called Bosniaks because they believe they ethnically belong to Bosnia, not Serbia.
A police raid on what authorities said was a mountain terrorist camp just south of Novi Pazar unveiled a large cache of weapons, ammunition, hand grenades, plastic explosives and face masks.
TV footage of the cave broadcast in Serbia also showed a black flag with a Quran inscription in Arabic, and propaganda material that investigators said praised Bin Laden and al-Qaida.
"The lethal mix of inter-Muslim and interethnic tensions, poverty and organized crime definitely has a potential for trouble," a ranking Western diplomat, who asked not to be named in order not to interfere with the police investigation, told The Associated Press.
"The 'white al-Qaida' certainly can find fertile ground in the region," he said.
Police claimed that up to 30 radical Muslims trained at the mountain camp, and that militants they referred to as "Wahhabi terrorists" planned unspecified actions at home and abroad.
Police in Kosovo said they were searching for one of the suspects, whom they identified as Ismail Prentic, a man they warned "should be considered armed and dangerous."
Local politicians said the group initially may have been plotting to attack moderate Muslims whom its members have denounced as infidels.
"There are numerous indications that something nasty was being prepared in Sandzak," said Dragan Simeunovic, an analyst. "This corner of the Balkans is a powder keg that can explode at any moment."
Last autumn, young men with long beards, white skull caps and ankle-short pants clashed with security in Novi Pazar's downtown Arap mosque. At least two people were injured in an ensuing firefight.
Muamer Zukorlic, Novi Pazar's mufti, describes the attackers as Wahhabi "extremists who want to express their domination" over local moderate Muslims.
"In some mosques, they collected prayer beads and hurled them into a nearby river," Zukorlic said. "They often shout in the mosques, interrupt prayers and provoke believers."
As the ultraconservatives increasingly make their presence known in Novi Pazar, the scene is more Saudi than Serbian.
Chants of muezzins echo from minarets across the town of 100,000, which is nearly 90 percent Muslim. Beggars crowd around yellow-brick buildings, and vendors at makeshift markets peddle everything from framed Quran verses to counterfeit designer blue jeans, watches and perfumes. Many women are clad head to toe in black.
Among fundamentalists like Edin Bejtovic, an unofficial spokesman for the conservative Muslim community, the mood is staunchly anti-American and in support of the radical Islamic insurgencies in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"According to the Americans, every average Muslim is a potential terrorist," said Bejtovic, who denied claims in Serbian media that his group is financed by Saudi Arabia-based radicals and that it was plotting attacks.
But he warned: "It can all become true if the Americans don't stop their destruction of Muslim nations and Islam."
There are fears that religious tensions in Sandzak, a hotbed of organized drug trafficking and human smuggling, could further destabilize the already volatile southern Balkans.
A recent report by the U.S. Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs identified Sandzak as "the center point" on a Balkan drug smuggling route that leads from Afghanistan via Turkey to Western Europe.
"The ability of organized crime groups to exploit the porous borders and weak infrastructure threatens political stability and economic development" of Serbia, the report said.

Desperately Seeking a Holocaust…

Posted by Julia under Republican Riot
First, note this recent piece by Serbianna’s Mickey Bozinovich:
At the Tenth Islamic Summit Conference Putrajaya, Malaysia on October 16, 2003 the host President, Mohammed Mahathir called on the world’s Islam to seize on opportunities and develop a doctrine that can allege persecution of Islam under fictitious pretexts…“There may be windows of opportunity for us now and in the future. We must seize these opportunities.”
That window of opportunity was the Bosnian Muslim suit against Christian Serbia alleging genocide. Regrettably for the Islamic Uma, the World Court ruling [last month] failed to anoint Islam with its desperately [sought] Holocaust… committed against Muslims somewhere and, please! by anybody.
As a calculated idea, the desperately seeking Islamic need to have its own Holocaust is derived from a belief that Jews are running the world by proxy and are able to sustain that rule by, what Islam subtly alleges, Jewish moral superiority derived from Hitler’s genocide of them during the WWII.…By seeking a legal fiat, sanctioned by the World, Muslims sought, along with the occurring circumstance, a reduction in the number of victims required to define a genocide and thus acquire, in addition to moral, also political power to convert a murder of any Muslim into a genocide of one!…As a court with no sovereign people to give it legislative power but a grant of appointed diplomats, the World Court did have, this time, enough wisdom to avoid setting a self annihilating precedent.

Terrorist Attack on Decani Monastery

14th century Serbian monastery Visoki Decani, areal photo. Click to view large.

HRH Crown Prince Alexander II Strongly
Condemns Attack on Serbian Monastery of Decani
At the time when the greatest Christian holiday Easter is approaching, the Monastery of Decani in the heart of Kosovo and Metohija was attacked.
The widely reported plans for the protection of Serbs and their property are not giving any results. I appeal to all countries that are fighting against terrorism to take these terrorist attacks seriously. The international community must firmly impress upon the authorities in Kosovo that this kind of behaviour is very uncivilised, and that they must prove that they are capable of respecting, not only the Serbs but everyone who is living in Kosovo. Democratic principles and human rights must be fully adhered to and such attacks must not be tolerated.
In Serbia, many ethnic minorities live in equality, and we ask for our people in Kosovo and Metohija to have the same equal status as anyone else living there.
The damage and pain that can be caused by such extremist attacks will not contribute to any future within Europe. I strongly condemn this act of terrorism on one of the most important Serbian Holy places which is a UNESCO World Heritage monument.
In light of this kind of barbaric behaviour, one should seriously consider whether Mr. Ahtisaari’s plan and the guarantees it offers are being taken in context. I demand much more guarantees for safety and protection from the authorities.
UN Contact Group Condemns Terrorist Attack on Decani Monastery
A U.N. statement issued late Saturday confirms that “Peacekeepers and police found a grenade launcher on the hillside overlooking the Decani monastery, and a rocket engine was discovered lodged in the outer wall of the building, after reports of a blast near the 14th-century site Friday.”
“All such violence against the Serb community or the Serbian Orthodox church in Kosovo is absolutely impermissible and intolerable,” the Contact Group on Kosovo said. The group is comprised of the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Russia.
“The full security of the Serb community in Kosovo is of the utmost importance, and any incidents of violence must be addressed promptly and resolutely by Kosovo authorities and the international community,” the United Nations Contact Group said in a statement.

Human Rights Council Concludes Disappointing Session

UN Watch
UN Watch expressed disappointment that the UN Human Rights Council concluded its fourth session today without addressing the vast majority of human rights abuses occurring around the world. The Council ignored such serious situations as repression in Burma and North Korea, denial of political rights in China, restrictions on women's rights in Saudi Arabia, and even the violent crackdown on opposition leaders in Zimbabwe that took place as the Council met. There had been talk that Western members would seek resolutions on Burma, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe, but none was ever tabled. A majority of Council members even decided to discontinue the body's confidential discussions of violations in Iran and Uzbekistan, two of the world's most abusive states. Particularly appalling is the Council's treatment of the ongoing crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan. Two weeks ago, the Council heard the report of its Darfur assessment team, led by Nobel Peace Laureate Jody Williams, which found the government of Sudan responsible for orchestrating and participating in "large-scale international crimes in Darfur," and also cited other parties to the conflict for gross violations of human rights and humanitarian law.The Council, however, could only agree on a meekly-worded resolution that failed to condemn, or even to cite, the Sudanese government or any other party for the abuses in Darfur. The Council, which is dominated by Sudan's allies in the African and Islamic groups, did not even formally adopt the Williams report, but merely "took note" of it. In its nine months of existence, the Council has condemned only one country in the entire world for human rights violations: Israel. At this session, the Council passed yet another resolution—its ninth—against the Jewish state. "Adopting the Williams report was the Council's best hope to redeem its shaky credibility," said Executive Director Hillel Neuer. "Yet all that the Council could muster was a weak resolution merely 'expressing deep concern' about violations in Darfur without attributing those violations to anyone." An earlier European Union draft would have added the words "including attacks by rebel and government forces," but even that was too strong for Sudan's allies in the Council. The resolution also defers to Sudan by expressing regret that the Williams mission "could not visit Darfur," obscuring that it was the Khartoum government that denied them entry. The Council also adopted, over the objections and abstentions of nearly half of its members, an Islamic Group-sponsored resolution against "defamation of religions," an attempt to suppress perceived offenses against Islam and even to justify violent reactions thereto. Not only does the resolution refer to Islam alone among the world's religions, it is inconsistent with free speech protections and with the fundamental principle that international human rights law is about protecting individuals, not religions. In addition, a majority of the Council voted to adopt a resolution, sponsored by China, on "strengthening the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights." In an Orwellian twist on its name, this resolution in fact seeks to impede the effectiveness of the UN's professional human rights office, including by making geographic balance preeminent in its hiring decisions.

UN Watch is a Geneva-based human rights organization founded in 1993 to monitor UN compliance with theprinciples of its Charter. It is accredited as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Special ConsultativeStatus to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and as an Associate NGO to the UN Departmentof Public Information.

Dancer, U.K.: Ahtisaari’s Proposal Should Fail

In a letter to The Daily Telegraph, British diplomat James Dancer wrote:
As a former British diplomat in the Balkans, it is my great concern that the proposals for Kosovo now before the UN are a path only to further bloodshed.
In Northern Ireland and the Middle East we proceed patiently to bring belligerent parties together, over Kosovo we seek to impose a solution. The only measure which might secure harmony for Kosovo is a long and substantive reconciliation process.
The apparent safeguards for Serbs in Kosovo offer no confidence at all to the minority communities. Nor does the EU require any such imposed solution to take on administration of Kosovo; to do so without the full range of powers now available to the UN mission will render the EU impotent to tackle the criminal gangs which make Kosovo Europe's main heroin and people smuggling centre.
The proposal overturns established policy against further border changes in the Balkans and contradicts the legal rulings of the Badinter Commission. The UN refugee agency has made contingency plans for up to 70,000 further refugees in the wake of imposed independence. These concerns are not just Russian or Slavic concerns; they are shared by diplomats, officials, and by a number of UN member states. The Security Council should let this proposal fall.
