Marko Prešeren: Slovenia Fired the First Shots in Yugoslav Civil War

The first investigation of the violations of the international law during the first armed conflict in former Yugoslavia, in June 1991 in Slovenia, resulted in a “shocking discovery”, according to the Slovenian Žurnal 24. The uncovered hidden side of these events debunks the widely accepted official version, according to which the Yugoslav National Army (JNA), equated with Serbia, “attacked Slovenia” following its unilateral declaration of independence from the Yugoslav federation. Quite the opposite is true, said Slovenian researcher Marko Prešeren: it was Slovenian paramilitary forces (inconspicuously named “Territorial defense”, TO) who have attacked Yugoslav Army stationed in Slovenia, in violation of the international law and Geneva Conventions.

In February 2008, Franco Frattini, the European Union official responsible “for combating racism and antisemitism in Europe,” revealed that Muslims - who comprise 4% of the European population - were responsible for fully half (50%) of the documented antisemitic incidents in continental Europe. Thus, on a population percentage basis, Muslims in Western Europe already accounted for roughly 25 times the number of Antisemitic incidents as their non-Muslim European counterparts.

In his recent book Unser Kampf: 1968 – “Our Struggle: 1968” – German historian Götz Aly discusses an emblematic and still widely-debated episode in the history of post-War Germany: the fatal shooting of student protestor Benno Ohnesorg by a police officer in West Berlin in June 1967. As flagged by the heavily ironic title, Aly’s book suggests that there are important ideological similarities between Germany’s left-wing radicals of the “1968” generation and the earlier generation of German radicals known as National Socialists. The book and its thesis are eminently worth discussing in their own right. But I want to cite it here just for some details that Aly provides about the biographies of two leading Berlin police officials at the time of the Ohnesorg shooting and for the instructive light that these details cast on Germany’s arrest and pending prosecution of John Demjanjuk.

Mission Over Ploesti: The Rescue of U.S. Airmen in Serbia

On July 8, 1944, a U.S. air armada based in Foggia, Italy, consisting of 250 bombers, the Consolidated B-24 Liberator and the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, attacked the oil refining installations at Ploesti, Romania, flying over German-occupied Serbia. The formation was attacked by the 325 German gun emplacements ringed around Ploesti. A squadron of German Messerschmitt ME-109 fighter planes was immediately assembled to intercept the American bombers.

Alexander Dorin: “Srebrenica Massacre” is a Western Myth

Why try a foreigner who was conscripted into service by the Germans under desperate circumstances and who is alleged to have participated in crimes that occurred on foreign soil? (Or do German prosecutors believe that the German occupation of Poland was legitimate and that the German so-called “Generalgouvernement” over Polish territory is still in place?) Germany’s pursuit of Demjanjuk creates the impression that Germany is extraordinarily thorough about prosecuting Nazi war crimes. And this indeed must be the point of the exercise — because the reality could hardly be more different.

According to Lord Anthony Giddens’ latest book, ‘The Politics of Climate Change’ and a number of respected historians, Hitler may have given Germany a head-start. Not only did he pass the most stringent and comprehensive environmental protection law in the world at that time, but he also had a soft spot for vegetarianism, organic nibbles and animal welfare (up until the point when he poisoned his doting German Shepherd, Blondi, that is).

Activists protest German energy company's trade with Iran at its board of directors meeting

German and Iranian human rights activists bought shares in The Linde Group, the gases and engineering giant, and posed tough questions to the Linde board of directors on Friday at the annual stockholder meeting about the company's controversial trade relationship with Iran.
While European oil corporations such as the French company Total are backing away from production in Iran because of Teheran's political instability, Linde is developing a project with the National Iran Oil company to liquefy natural gas and earned a total revenue of 91 million euros from Iran in 2008. Speaking at the Munich International Congress Center before 2,000 stockholders and the Linde board of directors, Dr. Kazem Moussavi, an Iranian who fled the Islamic Republic due to political repression and lives in Germany, asked the Linde top management whether "you can as a board of directors... conduct business with a regime that destroys the human rights of its population and denies the Holocaust and has repeatedly threatened to wipe Israel off the map?"

As Teheran's genocidal threats toward the Israeli survivors of Sobibor (and their children and grandchildren) and other extermination camps intensifies, Germany's parliament and Chancellor Angela Merkel's administration refuse to enact legislation to curb its roughly €4 billion annual trade relationship with Iran.
A number of German critics stress that it is meaningless to scream the revolutionary phrase "Never again Auschwitz" and not take concrete action against the Iranian regime's efforts to obliterate the Jewish state.

Austrian guest house denies entry to Jews

An Austrian Jew, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he has received threatening e-mails from neo-Nazis, told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday that Irmgard Monz, the owner of Haus Sonnenhof, a guest house in the Austrian state of Tyrol, wrote in an e-mail to the family that she is "not renting to Jews because of bad experiences."

The symbolic significance of a visit to Dresden by the American president — especially one undertaken in connection with a D-Day commemoration in France — may be missed by some Americans, but it is absolutely unmistakable for the German public. For Germans, Dresden is the symbol bar none of German suffering at the hands of the Allies. The city was heavily bombed by British and American air forces in February 1945, toward the end of the war. According to the most recent estimates of professional historians, anywhere from 18,000 to at most 25,000 persons died in the attacks. These numbers come from a historical commission established by the city of Dresden itself. But far higher numbers — ranging into the hundreds of thousands — have long circulated in Germany and beyond. The bombing of Dresden is commonly described as a “war crime” in German discussions.

German ministry rejects ban on Israeli flags

The Interior Ministry of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), which oversees the police in that west German state, has "decided in the future to not take down" Israeli flags at demonstrations, ministry spokesman Ludger Harmeier told The Jerusalem Post.
The police in Duisburg - a city in NRW - stormed apartments in January and seized two Israel flags hanging on the balcony and inside a window because the flags were viewed as a provocation by 10,000 anti-Israeli demonstrators.
A student who displayed the flags said he wanted to show solidarity with the only democratic state in the Middle East during Operation Cast Lead in Gaza.

German law professors uphold ban on Israeli flags during rally

A legal opinion submitted by law professor Jürgen Vahle to the Interior Ministry of North Rhine-Westphalia state in late April upholds the propriety of a police ban on and seizure of two Israeli flags during a violent anti-Israeli demonstration in January.
The report, a copy of which was obtained by The Jerusalem Post, asserts that "the entry by force in two apartments" and "the securing of the flags was lawful."
During a protest against Israel's Operation Cast Lead organized by the radical Islamic group Milli Görüs that attracted 10,000 protesters in Duisburg, two police officers stormed the apartment of a 25-year-old student and his 26-year-old girlfriend and seized Israeli flags hanging on the balcony and inside a window.

Former German envoy blasts Schröder's Iran lobby work

Rudolf Dressler, a former ambassador to Israel, on Monday slammed ex-chancellor Gerhard Schröder's efforts to expand trade with Iran.
"Visits of Western politicians in Iran, like the one of Gerhard Schröder in February of this year, thwart the current efforts toward a solution of the conflict, even if they are declared private visits," Dressler, who like Schröder is a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), said in statement. Dressler's public rebuke of Schröder, coupled with his criticism of Germany's roughly €4 billion in annual trade with Teheran, represent a remarkable break from a rather meek SPD posture toward sanctioning Iran because of its nuclear enrichment program. While declaring solidarity with Israel in scores of resolutions and events honoring the 6Oth anniversary of the Jewish state's creation, SPD Bundestag deputies have declined to enact legislation to curtail the mushrooming German-Iranian trade.

German justice takes legal action against the publisher of the blog "Jihad Watch Deutschland", Fred Alan Medforth. Mr Medforth should have offended the social-democratic member of the Bundestag Nils Annen. Mr Annen is a German pro Hamas and pro Hizbollah politician.
Not Mr. Annen sued Medforth because of insulting him, but the German justice sues Medforth because of insulting Mr Annen. Initiator for this lawsuit is not Mr Annen. It is the German justice itself which wants a lawsuit against the German pro Israel blogger . That means: It is a politically motivated court procedure. German justice states that the photo above and its subtitle is insulting Mr. Annen. The photo shows Hamas members presenting the Hitler salute. The text of the subtitle is : "One last greeting to Mr Annen."

Why Prof. Wolfgang Benz is headed in the wrong direction

Probably the most disturbing, aggressive, and offensive anti-Semitic rallies in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany occurred in January 2009. As the Israeli military answered several years of launching rockets into Israeli territory from the Hamas-Gaza strip, Muslims and their friends screamed “Death to the Jews”, no “Holocaust in Gaza”, “Boycott Israel” and so on in German streets. At one of these rallies in the city of Duisburg, the German police illegally entered an apartment of two students in order to confiscate two Israeli flags hung from the balcony and bedroom as a protest against the rise of anti-Semitism. Some 10,000 aggressive demonstrators, mostly Muslim (Germans), urged the police on. This was again a watershed moment in the political culture of Germany. To allow people to scream (whether in Arabic, Turkish, or German) “Death to the Jews”, or “Olmert is the son of a dog” (as happened at a rally in Berlin), and not to allow an Israeli flag peacefully placed in the angle of a bedroom window is a sign of that change. Muslim extremism is obviously on the rise; Jews and their friends are the target. We are talking about Germany, Europe and the world in January 2009.
