German among four teenagers charged with terror plots in Yemen
Yemen. A 16-year-old German boy was among four teenage defendants charged at a Yemeni state security court on Monday with plotting attacks on foreign and government targets in the Arab country.
The 16-year old, whose mother is Yemeni and is not named for legal reasons, appeared at the courtroom with three 15-year-old Iraqi co- defendants.
The four were charged with planning suicide attacks against tourists, foreign interests, state and military vital facilities.
Prosecutors told the court that the defendants had received training by an al-Qaeda leader in Marib province in 2008.
They said the four defendants had also met with the suicide bomber who blew himself up near the convoy of the British ambassador in Sana'a Tim Torlot in April 26.
Torlot escaped unharmed from the attack. Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the bombing carried out by a 22-year-old Yemeni man identified by authorities as Othman Ali al-Solwi.
The four defendants rejected the charges and the German defendant told the court that he wanted to travel to Germany to meet his father, whom he never met.
The court adjourned the trial until October 3.
