COLOGNE ATTACK: Two suspects on the run after shooting and axe assault in city centre
TWO suspects are on the run after a shooting and axe attack in Cologne left one man injured, according to German media. It is believed he was stabbed in the thigh on Flandrische Street at 3:45am local time following an alteraction with "three or four" other people.
The man, who has yet to be identified, ran to his Mercedes and fled the scene. Unconfirmed reports claim the weapon was a knife, not an axe.
The attackers, who eyewitnesses said were "exceptionally well-dressed", shot at the vehicle's windows and tyres as the victim drove away.Local media said a possible suspect was apprehended at Habsburgring shortly after, while another man was stopped by police at Moltkestrasse.
Eyewitnesses said the attack took moments after the men, who were "exceptionally well-dressed", had an argument with the victim.
The motives behind the attack are not yet known, but Germany is on high-alert after a string of Islamic State (ISIS) terror attacks this summer.Teenager Ali David Sonboly shot nine people dead in Munich on 23 July after luring them to a McDonald's with the promise of free food.
Just two days later, a failed asylum seeker who pledged alliance to the jihadist group blew himself up outside a wine bar in the town of Ansbach. express
