400 radical-left activists were arrested in Stuttgart today as they attempted to prevent the Alternative for Germany (AfD) from starting their annual conference, at which they are to thrash out the contents of their Spring manifesto. Scenes of violence were witnessed this morning as members of the anarchist so-called ‘black bloc’ movement clashed with police and assaulted members of the AfD. The protestors received warnings from the police about their behaviour, but after fireworks and lit flares were thrown at officers, they deployed water cannon and pepper spray, reports Kronen Zeitung.

Around 1,000 protestors arrived at the Stuttgart convention centre this morning, and were matched by some 1,000 members of the German police. The leftists formed human chains to prevent delegates from entering the centre, effectively delaying the start of the conference by an hour. Police said there were no injuries among the “violent” masked protesters.

As one leftist agitator explained to English language television, “We are united by our conviction that we cannot let the AfD go unchallenged… we will not allow ourselves to be divided and we stand together for a compassionate society”.
Underlining this compassion, protesters threw water at police horses, set fire to tyres, and attacked AfD members with coloured paint.

AfD were meeting on the first day of their two day conference to adopt the young parties first national programme — a Spring manifesto. Some 2,400 members were eventually able to enter the hall and enter debates, and vote.
What is decided upon for the programme will set the future course of action, and direction of travel for the party. Agreed early on in the day was statement by party deputy chairman Beatrix von Storch, former Duchess of Oldenburg, that referring to the political interpretation of the faith “Islam is not part of Germany”, reports Die Welt.

Party leader Frauke Petry emphasised that while the party was not Islamophobic, Islam itself was fundementally with Germany’s constitution — the so-called Fundamental Law.
Also discussed was the AfD’s support for German culture, the traditional family, and Germany leaving the Euro single currency. The conference will resume on Sunday.

Germany’s AfD has long been the only seriously dissenting voice in the country over the migrant crisis. Having transformed from a niche political movement opposing the Euro single currency and the European Union, it has enjoyed record poll ratings and electoral success in the past 12 months as their anti mass migration policies have caught the the attention of many Germans.
As with many right-wing movements in Europe, AfD’s members have been dismissed as the ‘losers of globalisation’ — societies less educated and less wealthy who have suffered most from mass migration. Yet new research published today by Germany’s mainstream centrist newspaper Die Welt has found that counter the stereotype, AfD supporters are actually among the richest of any politically active group in Germany, and among the best educated.

‘Friends Of Corbyn’ Gang Defrauded Pensioners of £900,000 to Fund Islamic State

 by Donna Rachel Edmunds

A gang of fraudsters stole thousands of pounds from pensioners’ savings pots and funnelled the money to Islamic State, a court has heard. Among the victims were a Second World War veteran, and an elderly woman who was driven to the brink of suicide by the gang’s actions. The gang of nine defrauded at least 18 victims out of more than £900,000 in total, although police identified 140 offences in total. None of the money stolen was recouped, and some of the victims died penniless while others were awarded a token sum by their banks in compensation.
One of the gang relied on his family’s close connection to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to secure bail, it is reported.
Among their victims were 87-year-old Patricia Burnham who lost £135,000; recently widowed Thomas Garrett, 86, who lost £3,000; and Kenneth Whitaker, 93, who fought with the Army Air Corps. The gang stole £113,000 from him, The Times has reported.
The conmen used a “voice phishing” technique involving posing as police officers and calling their victims, instructing them to ring the police or their bank immediately. By staying online, they were able to remain connected and harvest confidential data which allowed them access to the victims’ accounts.
An investigation was launched after suspicious payments were tracked entering the account of a British jihadi fighting in Syria.
The gang included 23-year-old Mohammed Dahir, for whom Jeremy Corbyn wrote a supporting letter asking a judge for bail just before Christmas because he had “roots in the area” and was unlikely to abscond. A spokesman from his office said that the terrorism link was not part of the court case, and had not come to light when the letter was written.
Dahir’s mother Amina Farah, 40, from Somalia said: “We are family friends [of Corbyn’s]. We always fought for him, for Labour. We have known him for many years. He is a nice man.
“We are a good family. We don’t want any problems. I don’t know why they arrested my son.”
Dahir’s 20-year-old nursing student sister said of the family’s relationship with Mr. Corbyn: “My father is a close friend of his. He [Mr. Corbyn] was able to vouch for my brother, for us, we are thankful to him. We had to prove my brother was innocent. Clearly if my brother was a criminal, he would not have participated.
“My dad spoke to Jeremy personally and asked him to help. He is really close friends with my father, they have done a lot of community work together”.
The bail request was granted.
Along with Dahir, Shakaria Aden, 21, Yasser Abukar, 23, and Mohammed Abokar, 28, were all found guilty of conspiracy to commit fraud.
Mohammed Abokar was also convicted of converting criminal property, the Mail reported.
Fahim Islam, 20, Achmed Abdulaziz Ahmed, 23, and Makzhumi Abukar, 23, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud.
Anrul Islam, 24, and Mohammed Youssfi, 37, pleaded guilty to money laundering.
After the verdicts Commander Richard Walton, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) said: “This callous group of criminals stole vast sums of money from extremely vulnerable and elderly people from across the country.
“Their despicable actions have had a terrible and devastating impact on their victims with some losing their life savings. The targeting of vulnerable men and women in their 80s and 90s is quite simply beyond belief.
“This was a scam on a huge national scale detected by specialist financial investigators who have stopped the targeting of even more victims. Our investigation remains on-going and we will continue to arrest and prosecute anyone involved in this fraud.
“We uncovered this fraud after a separate terrorist investigation found suspicious payments into a bank account of an individual who is now believed to have travelled to Syria.”
At the Old Bailey, Judge Anujar Dhir delayed sentencing until Wednesday.

Report: Germany rethinks its policy of automatic support for Israel

Germany is beginning to re-examine its longstanding policy of near-automatic support for Israel in light of what it perceives as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s disinclination to move toward a two-state solution to the Palestine question.

According to a report in the prestigious magazine Der Spiegel, diplomatic officials in Berlin are taking a hard look at a decades-long policy of “unconditional support” for Israel in light of continued settlement expansion in the West Bank.

The reassessment has been triggered by the realization among officials in Berlin that as long as Netanyahu is in power, Israel has no intention of creating a Palestinian state in the West Bank, thus ushering in an era of “apartheid” – according to Der Spiegel.

"The perception has been growing in the German government that Netanyahu is instrumentalizing our friendship," Rolf Mützenich, a top official with the Social Democratic Party (SPD), a key member of Angela Merkel’s coalition, is quoted as saying by Der Spiegel.

The German chancellor was also incensed by Netanyahu after reports appeared in the Israeli press to the effect that during the premier's recent trip to Berlin, she had endorsed his position that now was not the time to discuss a two-state solution.

According to the German report, Merkel and her aides believe that Netanyahu deliberately distorted her statements - which were not meant for public consumption - in order to further the premier's domestic political agenda.

Initial indications of a sea change in German thinking were evident earlier this year when Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier ignored Netanyahu’s request to oppose a resolution by the European Union criticizing Israel’s policy of building in the settlements.

“Settlements are illegal under international law, constitute an obstacle to peace and threaten to make a two-state solution impossible,” the resolution, which was adopted by Brussels, read.

Steinmeier broke with tradition and threw his support behind the draft despite a phone call from Netanyahu urging him to do the opposite.

Der Spiegel also reported that Merkel expressed sympathy for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas during his recent visit to the German capital.

"I understand why President Abbas continually seeks out the Security Council," the chancellor is quoted as saying by Der Spiegel.

Watch: Anti-Mass Migration Campaigners Stage Protest On Roof Of World Famous Imperial Theatre

by Oliver Lane and Chris Tomlinson

Two Identitarians scaled the famous Burgtheater in Vienna to hang a banner protesting the performance of a pro-migrant play, and Breitbart London has the first sneak-peek at the incredible footage they recorded from the stunt. Two activists of the ‘hipster right-wing’ Identitarian movement in Austria made a daring protest against the national theatre in Vienna. The Burgtheater had put on a production of the controversial pro-migrant play “Die Schutzbefohlenen” on Wednesday night.
The Identitarians had previously interrupted a performance of the play being performed at the University of Vienna where they stormed the stage and called the play goers hypocrites who they say celebrate the migrant crisis.
IDENT 1
In the voice-over for the new English-language film, Austrian Identitarian leader Martin Sellner explains: “After our protest against the refugees-welcome play at our university the leftist president of the national assembly, Mrs Bures, invited them into the famous Burg-theater, to repeat it under her ‘honorary protection’.
“A few days later a 21 year old Student was brutally raped by 3 refugees in Vienna. You Hypocrites!
“Where are your tears, and plays for the victims of terrorism and immigration? We will show the whole world what you are and what the Austrian youth thinks of you.
“We don’t care about the honorary protection, when you can’t protect our own women and children. You are hypocrites and your time is over!”
Media claimed that the youth group, who protest against the Islamisation of Europe and mass migration, picked fights with the audience members though the Identitarians deny attacking anyone and claim that they were the ones being attacked. They claimed that the protest at the university was against the establishment saying, “the action is not directed against asylum seekers on the stage, but against the hypocrites in the audience and their politics.”
IDENT 2
The new protest this Wednesday protest saw two members of the group take a ladder to scale the side of the imposing theatre and put up a banner which read, “hypocrites” as they threw leaflet s from the roof of the building before making their escape.
Perhaps the most impressive feat of the protest was their descent from the threater, rappelling hundreds of feet down the side of the building.
Once down the leader of the Identitarians, and one of the pair who carried out the protest, Martin Sellner, took a quick selfie and posted it to Facebook with the caption, “I got me some right now #dasistflyshit.”
The fliers dropped from the roof made clear that the action was inspired by the violent gang rape of a young Austrian woman the preceeding weekend by three Afghan teenagers. The shocking incident is said to have helped anti-mass migration Freedom Party candidate Norbert Hofer win the first round of the vote.
IDENT 4
Reaction to the protest was critical with the left wing extremist group Antifa hanging a banner from the main balcony and Socialist Party Arts and Culture Minister Josef Ostermayer saying, “there can and must be no understanding and no acceptance of these actions,” and called for solidarity against groups he says try and “split society,” Der Standard reports.
The Burgtheater posted a response on their Facebook page saying, “Identitarians get down from our house and get out of Europe. You, your fear-mongering, your hatred and your rabble-rousing have no place here.”
The top Facebook comment on the post was from Identitarian spokesman Alexander Markovics who said, “We are here to stay. We’re tomorrow, you guys are from yesterday. Your hypocrisy and decadence has no more room in the new Austria , you can leave”.

Britain? Moderates? How's That Again?

One often hears about the "moderate Muslim majority." 'After any terrorist attack, politicians tell us that, "The moderate majority of Muslims utterly condemn this." After any outrage, commentators and pundits spring up to say, "Of course the vast majority of Muslims are moderate." But is it true? Are the vast majority of Muslims really "moderate"?
A number of factors suggest perhaps not -- most obviously the problem repeatedly revealed by opinion polls. Time and again, the results of opinion polls in the Western world, never mind in the Middle East or North Africa, show a quite different picture from the "moderate majority" aquatint.
True, such polls can often show that, for instance, only 27% of British Muslims have "some sympathy for the motives behind the attacks" at the offices of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo last year. True, that is only between a quarter and a third of British Muslims sympathizing with the blasphemy enforcement squad. On other occasions, such as recently in Britain with a new ICM poll commissioned by Channel 4, they find that a majority of Muslims hold views with which most British people would disagree. So for instance, the recent ICM poll found that 52% of British Muslims think that homosexuality should be made illegal. That's a striking figure. Not 52% of British Muslims saying homosexuality is "not their cup of tea" or that they are "not entirely on board with gay marriage," but 52% of British Muslims thinking that homosexuality should be made a crime under the law.
But it is what happens after such polls emerge that the "moderate majority" idea really comes under strain. First, of course, there is always an attempt to put a positive spin on the results. So for instance, when the post-Charlie Hebdo poll came out last year, the BBC (which had commissioned the poll) ran it with the headline, "Most British Muslims 'oppose Muhammad cartoon reprisals.'" Although true, it is not the most striking aspect of its findings. But it is what happens next that is most revealing and more truly calls into question whether we are really dealing with a "moderate majority" or, more truthfully, with a "moderate minority." Because whenever the results come out, nearly the entire Muslim community, including nearly all Muslims in the media and all self-appointed groups of "Muslim community leaders," try to prove that the poll is a fraud. It happened with the release of the ICM poll in the UK, as it has happened with every previous poll. With the exception of only one or two prominent dissident Muslims, every Muslim voice in the media and every Muslim group decided not to concern themselves with the ICM findings, but to try to pull apart the validity, methodology and even 'motives' of the poll. This is deeply revealing.
It is worth trying a thought-experiment here. Whatever community you come from, imagine your reaction if a poll like the ICM one on British Muslims had come out about whatever community you feel a part of. Imagine you are a Jew and a poll had come out saying the majority of other Jews in your country want to make being gay a crime. What would your first reaction be? My impression is that most Jews would be deeply embarrassed. Very shortly after that first reaction, you might begin to wonder what could be done to change such a terrible statistic around. It is possible, if you knew nobody of your faith who thought that homosexuality should be criminalized and had never come across this position before (or any previous polling which suggested the same thing) that you might question the credibility and methodology of the poll. But otherwise, you would probably sigh and wonder what could be done to improve things. If you knew the findings to be fairly accurate, why would you try to tear apart the findings?
Likewise, if tomorrow a poll were published of the opinions of white British people of Christian upbringing in the UK, I would take some interest in it. If it revealed that 39% of British Christians believed that wives should always obey their husbands (as the ICM poll showed British Muslims believe) then I would have some worries. If it also found that almost a quarter (23%) of British people of Christian origin wanted areas of the UK to divest themselves of the law of the land and be run instead on some Biblical literalist "take" on the law, I would worry some more.
Of course, neither of these eventualities is remotely likely to arise. But let us say that it did. What would be my reaction? The first would be to hang my head in shame. And I would hang it just that bit lower if the findings came as absolutely no surprise to me. If I had always known my "community" harboured such views, and a poll revealing this truth came out, I would be deeply ashamed that what I had always known was now known by everyone else in the country.
What is most interesting then, when such polls emerge about the opinions of British Muslims, is that there is never, ever, any hint of such introspection. There is no shame and no concern, only attack. If there were indeed a "moderate majority," then when a poll comes out saying that a quarter of your community wants fundamentally to alter the law of the land and live under Sharia law, the other 75% would spend their time trying to change the opinions of that quarter. Instead, about 74% of the 75% not in favour of sharia spend their time covering for the 25% and attacking the polling company which discovered them. It is a tiny symptom of a much larger problem, the repercussions of which our societies have hardly begun to face.

Dutch Public Broadcasters Launches Arabic Channel For ‘Refugees’

 Arabic
by Liam Deacon

The Netherlands has launched an entertainment and information channel in Arabic, for new migrants who have not learnt the language of their host nation. The ‘Net in Nederland‘ (New To The Netherlands) service will be launched online by Dutch pubic broadcaster NPO. The public television service is funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, and costs each Dutch citizen €116 a year.
The broadcaster’s spokesman said they had chosen an online platform because most migrants have smartphones and tablets.
“New to the Netherlands has been designed to help newcomers in our country including refugees and immigrants find their way in our society with a supply of on-demand media”, reads the website.
Adding: “New to the Netherlands not only translates the programs into English and Arabic. The platform also points out initiatives which can be helpful for newcomers in the Netherlands”.
The lead program today, advertised as “one to watch”, is called “Love from… Late”. Its synopsis reads: “Anne-Marijn (28) from Noord-Holland and her friend went on holiday to Sri Lanka. At the hotel she met Thusitha (26), the Food & Beverage manager. For Anne-Marijn it was love at first sight.”
The migrant service cost €400,000 to launch, and will cost a further €300,000 a year to run. However, NPO has insisted the broadcasters themselves will finance it, not the taxpayer.
“We don’t have much money…and we have to check a lot of things again”, Net in Nederland spokesman Bernadette Slotboom told Dutch News.
Adding: “We are planning on touring the country to present Net in Nederland to language schools around the country, and connect with them and adjust [our translations].”
She also explained that: “We chose the programmes based on the subjects covered in the Inburgering (Integration) exam.
“We also have a feedback group of refugees who are journalists, writers, poets and film-makers who have been here for between three and 20 years. They loved the initiative and helped us make our selection”.

Majority of educated Muslims abroad still favor imposition of sharia law

By Sierra Rayne

The West is in a major-league mess when it comes to immigration.  Enlightened conservatives have known this for many years.  The ostriches are just coming to their awakening, or else heads remain firmly buried in the sands of political correctness.
The pro-immigration narrative in many quarters has gone as follows.  We need immigrants to grow our economy and do the jobs our own people won't do, but don't worry: nobody who wants to emigrate to our nation desires to change our legal system into an authoritarian structure.  This policy platform does not discriminate between educated and uneducated immigrants; in fact, it tends to prefer the latter, as they have negligible wage bargaining power and will do the supposed "jobs Westerners won't do."
Alternatively, we hear the argument that the uneducated immigrants are possible risks, so instead we will dominantly accept the educated immigrants who are enlightened and desire to live in a modern, liberal democracy based on the principles of Western civilization.
According to data released by the Pew Research Center, the second argument – i.e., a preference for the educated immigrants – just had its foundation ripped out from under it.
We start with some background.  The primary concern is sharia law, and the sources of the concern are the massive levels of Muslim immigration that have been taking place, and continue to accelerate, throughout the West.  Large numbers of immigrants are entering from Islamic states.
When Syrian refugees started to flood in, questions were raised about where the risks came from.  Young, single, uneducated men – it was said – were the only real demographic holding Islamist tendencies.  The rest, particularly educated individuals – it was claimed – posed a near nonexistent threat of seeking to impose sharia law on their adopted countries.
So naive that view was.
Based on Pew's data, while a higher level of education does lower the percentage of Muslims in major source immigration countries (e.g., Turkey, Indonesia, Nigeria) that think laws should be influenced by the Quran, a majority of educated Muslims in these nations still favor the imposition of Quran-based (aka sharia) law.
For example, in Turkey, only 45% of educated Muslims said "[l]aws in our country should not be influenced by the teachings of the Quran," meaning that the remaining 55% favor the imposition of sharia in at least some form.
In Nigeria, the percentage of educated Muslims who are not willing to reject the imposition of sharia is 52%.  In Indonesia, it is 77%, and in Lebanon it is 54%.  Over in Senegal, the number is 78%.
With such high percentages of educated Muslims apparently favoring sharia law in their home countries, it is exceedingly unlikely that the West would be taking in (i.e., selecting exclusively for) only the Muslims who oppose a Quranic legal system.  And if these individuals favor sharia law in their home countries, there is no reason why they wouldn't favor sharia law in their adopted nation.  In fact, the spread of sharia on the road toward the global caliphate may be exactly why they are emigrating.
There is no way around this problem other than immigration restrictions based on religion, much as presidential candidate Donald Trump and others have argued for.  Simply asking potential immigrants to assure authorities they will not agitate for or otherwise support the imposition of sharia law is insufficient.  We have no way of assessing whether or not the oath-taker is lying.
Critics of Trump's views noted that we also have no way of assessing a potential immigrant's actual religion.  If we have a policy against Islamic immigrants, then applicants could simply lie and claim another religious belief or no religion at all.  This is true, and we are then led to the natural conclusion that, for national security reasons, immigration from dominantly Muslim nations should be severely restricted or eliminated entirely.
For those already inside the West's boundaries, any and all forms of support for the imposition of sharia law should be considered as treason.  It has been a long time since treasonous activities – which supersede any rights to freedom of religion – were prosecuted, and in a number of countries, the interpretation of treason has been greatly weakened to the point of near irrelevance.  Perhaps it is time to dust off and firm up those laws.

Syrian Migrants Swell German Welfare Rolls

by Daniel Greenfield

Not exactly a surprise.
Most of the migrants come from countries where schooling lasts years less than in Germany, said Karl Brenke, a labor and migration expert at the German Institute for Economic Research. Qualifications are difficult to compare. Already, there are 14 people competing for a basic unskilled job, Mr. Brenke said.
He provided figures showing that the number of employable people who are jobless and living on welfare had swelled to 280,000 in December from 116,000 in early 2011. Half are Syrians.
Mr. Brenke said he saw a danger that migrants could remain unemployed for years. Even Mr. Weise admits that employment could prove tough. Seventy percent of asylum applicants in 2015, he said, were under 30.
Even without accommodating the North Africans, he said, it is already clear that “the refugees are not the work force that the German economy needs.”
Of course not. Any claim otherwise was yet another line in a legion of them that were used to promote mass migration. But everyone who said otherwise was shouted down and ridiculed.

Report: Belgian Police Knew Abdeslam Brothers Planned Terror Act Since 2014

 Abdeslam
 by Sarkis Zeronian

A “highly classified” police watchdog’s report into Belgium’s response to the Paris attacks shows Belgian police had information as early as mid-2014 that the Abdeslam brothers intended to carry out “an irreversible act”. As part of the Paris attacks that killed 130 people on November 13 last year, terrorist Brahim Abdeslam (below, right), then aged 31, blew himself to pieces at the Comptoir Voltaire brasserie (pictured above). Somehow, despite his proximity to others, he failed to kill anyone other than himself in the explosion.
Brahim’s younger brother, 26-year-old Salah Abdeslam (below left), allegedly provided logistical support for the attacks, drove the assailants to their target locations, and was involved in the manufacture of their explosives. He evaded capture initially, but was eventually arrested in Brussels just four days before last month’s terror attacks.

A “highly classified” report drafted by the Standing Police Monitoring Committee — Comité P — and seen by POLITICO has concluded that well before the murderous attacks, Belgian security forces were aware of the Abdeslam brothers’ Islamic radicalisation, their links to the Paris attacks mastermind Abdelhamid Abaaoud, and their intention to commit some sort of act.
The police anti-terror unit previously claimed it was unable to file a central police database report on the Abdeslam brothers from the Molenbeek neighborhood of Brussels, because it could not be certain which brother was involved. However, the Comité P report suggests the names of both brothers were already there.
The report illustrates inadequate attempts to deal with radicalised terrorists, describing sloppiness from individuals operating with limited resources, and a lack of procedural guidance for officials dealing with highly sensitive information.
The report found “nothing was done with the dossiers after the drafting of the transcript [containing information about the pair].” In fact the dossiers were not reviewed due to “capacity issues” and “no one took ownership,” the result of which was that “up until the attacks in Paris nothing happened.”
In addition authorities held computers, USB sticks and telephone data involving the Abdeslam brothers since February 2015, but that information was not used “not even after Paris, or very recently.”
In early 2015 the brothers were questioned on suspicion of planning to travel to Syria. At that point prosecutors sought backing for phone taps from police units other than the anti-terror one, having already been turned down by them because of a lack of resources.
That second request was also turned down and on 21 April last year the police decided the brothers’ file did not need following up.
The leaking of the report written by the watchdog providing Belgium’s Federal Parliament with an external body responsible for monitoring the police will be a source of some embarrassment.
Described as “highly classified” by government sources, POLITICO reports the words “Eyes Only” appeared atop each page. It was only meant for a select group of members of parliament, who were not allowed to make notes when reading it and were unable to take a copy of the report from the room where it was read.

Sikh Temple Bomber Was Part of Anti-Radicalisation Program

 bomb
 by Chris Tomlinson

One of the Muslim terrorists who bombed a Sikh temple in Germany was enrolled in an anti-radicalisation “Salafist prevention” program. Police in Germany have recently released more information regarding the two teenage terrorists who carried out a bomb attack on a Sikh temple in Essen. The two 16-year old’s Mohammed B. from Essen and Yussuf T. from Gelsenkirchen who are said to be supporters of the Islamic state.
The pair carried out the bombing to wage jihad even though one of them was enrolled in an anti-radicalisation program,  Die Welt reports.
Yussuf T. was part of a government project called “Wegweiser” which was set up by the North Rhine-Westphalia government to combat extremism. The website for the projects says it works by, ” preventing entry to the violent Salafism and aims to focus on young people who are going to radicalise.”
They say the program takes a “holistic approach” and offers consultation services for young Muslims and those in their social circles.
Yussuf was sent into the program after staff at his school had noticed what they considered worrying behaviour. The young ISIS supporter expressed his admiration of the Islamic state to fellow classmates and teachers.
The teenager even went as so far as praising the November Paris terror attack. Yussuf had a streak of anti-Semitism that is all too common among radicalised Muslims, and is said to have threatened a Jewish class mate saying he would “break her neck.”
Yussuf took his final session with the group only four days before he and his partner bombed the Sikh temple. He attended the group with his parents and it is suspected that he had intended to flee to Syria just like a growing number of European children, had he not been caught and arrested by German police first.
In spite of set backs to the program the Northwest Rhine-Westphalia  Interior Minister Ralf Jäger has said he still supports funding the program. The program currently works with 160 young Muslims and has had requests from a further 4,600. The minister has said this proves there is a need to expand the program to meet the demand.
Yussuf’s partner Mohammed also showed signs of radicalisation before the attack. He used the name “kuffarkiller”when he made posts on the internet and was known to police as he had been arrested for causing bodily harm when he assaulted an unidentified victim.
Mohammed was detained the day before the bombing because he was involved in a break-in.
The bombing they carried out was meant to take place during a Sikh wedding but the pair were unable to sneak the bomb in. Had the bomb gone off authorities say there would have been a high chance of deaths and injuries. The police have also said they doubt any formal links exist between the teens and the Islamic State. The Islamic state has had no problem recruiting children as suicide bombers in the past however, with many children dying of so called “martyrdoms” in Iraq and Syria.

England Flag Banned From Eurovision

 by Nick Hallett

The flags of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will be banned from the arena at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, but the European Union and Rainbow flags will be permitted. Contest rules mean the flags will be prohibited in order to keep the contest free from “political statements, unauthorised commercial messages and offensive comments”.
According to an official document, fans in the arena will be allowed to fly the flags of participating countries, along with any other state that is a member of the United Nations.
However, the rules forbid the flying of “local, regional and provincial flags”. A spokesman confirmed to Breitbart London that this will include the flags of the constituent countries of the UK.
The spokesman said that the policy “is not aimed against any organisation or territory specifically”, but nonetheless admitted that “flags from Scotland for example would not be permitted since it does not fall into either of these categories.”
The document does, however, expressly permit the European Union and Rainbow flags “provided they will… not be used as tool to intentionally make a political statement during the show.”
The guidelines have already caused considerable controversy in Spain, with a draft version specifically listing the flag of the Basque Country as prohibited alongside the banner of Islamic State.
The Basque regional government expressed its outrage to Swedish embassy in Madrid and called on Spain’s state broadcaster to ask that it be removed from the list immediately.
“Its inclusion alongside the flag of Daesh [an alternative name for Islamic State], even though it is only an example, is not acceptable,” the Basque government said.
Eurovision has now apologised for including the flag, known as the Ikurriña, on the list and issued a new version of the guide without examples.
The contest organisers said: “If the portraying of the flags in the document has offended anyone, we of course apologise for that.”

Turkey: Muslims scream “Allahu akbar” as columnists get jail for Muhammad cartoon

Rapidly Islamizing Turkey is clearly moving toward reimposing Sharia blasphemy laws. But the Turks are still “moderate”: Hikmet Cetinkaya and Ceyda Karan could have been sentenced to death. And in prison, they will be in serious danger.
Meanwhile, anyone in the West who starts to feel self-righteous about Turkey and freedom of speech should remember the chorus of condemnation we received from the mainstream media (and others) last year after jihadis attacked our Muhammad Art Exhibit and Cartoon Contest. People aren’t jailed yet in the U.S. for Muhammad cartoons, but there are plenty of people here who would like to see that happen. It’s coming.
Hikmet Cetinkaya
“Turkey columnists get two years in jail over Charlie Hebdo cartoon,” AFP, April 28, 2016:
An Istanbul court on Thursday sentenced two prominent Turkish journalists to two years behind bars for illustrating their columns with a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed originally published by French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo.
“The Prophet Mohammed.” AFP, like all of the mainstream media, assumes that Muhammad is everyone’s prophet, and that we are all Muslims now.
The sentence handed to columnists Hikmet Cetinkaya and Ceyda Karan, both columnists with the opposition Cumhuriyet daily, intensified alarm over press freedoms in Turkey under strongman President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has made Islam the cornerstone of his politics.
“The two journalists were sentenced to two years each in jail,” said their lawyer Bulent Utku. “We will appeal the ruling at the appeals court,” Utku told AFP following a hearing at Istanbul’s criminal court.
The pair, who went on trial in January last year, were acquitted of “insulting religious values” but convicted on charges of “inciting public hatred”.
They were sentenced to three years in jail, which was reduced to two by the court on technical grounds.
‘Erdogan’s family among plaintiffs’
The state-run Anatolia news agency said the case was brought by a total of 1,280 plaintiffs including Erdogan’s daughters Esra and Sumeyye, his son Bilal and his son-in-law, Energy Minister Berat Albayrak.
The Erdogan family was represented by a lawyer in court, it added.
After the verdict, members of the public who had brought the complaint and were present in court shouted “Allahu Akbar”, Cumhuriyet reported — Arabic for ‘God is greatest’….

Broad alliance criticizes Iran trip of Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel

A broad alliance is protesting with an open letter against the Iran-trip of Vice-Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs Sigmar Gabriel (SPD). Among them are the campaign STOP THE BOMB, Young Socialists (the Youth organization of the SPD) Berlin and Lower Saxony, Jewish associations, the German-Israeli Societies of Hanover, Berlin, Bremen, Oldenburg, Leipzig and Stuttgart and the Green Party of Iran. Gabriel is travelling with a huge business delegation to Iran this coming Monday.
The organisations are asking the Vice Chancellor to cancel the trip. The letter states: “Doing business with the world champion of executions, with an antisemitic dictatorship that threatens Israel with annihilation means participating in their crimes.”
Sigmar Gabriel was the first Western minister who travelled to Teheran in July 2015, directly after the nuclear deal was signed. The actual trip has the aim to support business with Iran on a grand scale. For this aim, a conference has been organised, at which Sigmar Gabriel, several representatives of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of the Environment and the who is who of German export promotion are participating, as well as high ranking representatives of Siemens, a company that has been leading in trade with the inhuman regime in the past.
The signatories of the letter are pointing to the human rights violations, the support of terror organisations and the antisemitism of the Iranian regime. The Iranian government has just recently tested middle-range missiles with the inscription “Israel must be wiped out”. In June the third Holocaust-cartoon-contest will take place in Teheran; awarding antisemitic and Holocaust-denying caricatures.
The signatories criticize the German government’s hypocrisy. STOP THE BOMB spokesperson Katharina Eggers explains: “Sigmar Gabriel’s statement, that partners of the German government must not question Israel’s right to exist is a phrase without consequences. The trip shows that the German government does everything to be the first in trade with Iran again. It is scandalous and irresponsible that the government follows short sighted business interests regarding a regime that threatens Israel with annihilation, that is responsible for the catastrophic war against the Syrian people and that the world’s champion in executions.”

Cologne New Year’s Eve Sex Attacker Arrested on Swiss Border

 by Chris Tomlinson

Police have arrested a man they say was a main participant in the New Year’s Eve sex attacks in Cologne on the German-Swiss Border. Police in Germany have announced the arrest of a key suspect from the sex attacks that occurred in Cologne on New Year’s Eve. Authorities were able to capture the Moroccan national at the border of Bodensee, a lake which lies between Bavaria and Switzerland Suddeutsche Zeitung reports.
The 19-year-old migrant was already wanted by police in connection to the sex attacks and has been on the run since January. He is said to have visited the Swiss border town of Kreuzlingen, where he was detained along with a 24-year-old accomplice by Swiss police for shoplifting food and cigarettes from a store across the border in the German town of Konstanz.
The 24-year-old is also suspected of having participated in the New Year’s Eve attacks.
Initially a Swiss border guard voiced suspicion that one of the migrants may have been wanted in connection with the Cologne attacks. Swiss police were able to connect the suspect to a European wide arrest warrant that had been issued after he was positively identified by German police.
The suspect is now in a jail in Switzerland, but will be deported to Germany as the Konstanz-Kreuzlingen prosecutor has issued an extradition warrant for the pair.
Although there were over a thousand reported cases of theft and sexual attacks on New Year’s Eve, German authorities have had increasing difficulty tracking down suspects. Many  European Union politicians and German officials initially insisted that the attacks had nothing to do with mass migration.
One victim of the attacks was called a racist because she said that the vast majority of her attackers appeared to be men from the Middle East and North Africa. The 26-year-old gave an interview to German media describing details of her assault, and how social media users had called her work to threaten her, and call her a racist and a right winger.
The first arrest in connection with the attacks was of an Algerian asylum seeker who was thought to have participated in groping young women outside the Cologne train station.
Arrests since then have been few and far between, leading many to question the efficacy of the German police to protect German woman from sexual assault and bring the perpetrators to justice, especially when some have accused the police of attempting to cover up the matter entirely.

European Union Military Police Rehearses For Civil War In Germany

 civil war

by Liam Deacon

Around 600 members (pictured) of various European police and military forces have carried out a European Union (EU) funded training exercise, in preparation for major civil unrest and even war. The exercise took place in North Rhine-Westphalia on the 15th of April, and is part of the EU’s ongoing Lowlands Gendarmerie program.
So-called ‘Gendarmeries’ are a military force charged with police duties among civilian populations, and all seven European countries that maintain such “robust” units are joined together in the European Gendarmerie Force (Eurogendfor).
The European Commission financed three similar joint exercises in Italy, France and Germany back in 2008, Junge Welt reports.
The first series of Lowlands Gendarmerie exercises kicked off in 2014, with Special Forces from Kenya, Cameroon, Rwanda, Uganda and Sudan present. This year, it is reported that gendarmes from Turkey, Tunisia and Cameroon are involved.
The exercises are run by the European Union Police Services Training (EUPST), who’s aim is to, “enhance skills of police officers likely to be deployed in post conflict situation”, as well as, “developing the rapid deployment capability of police in international crisis situations.”
“One language, one common procedure”, goes the EUPST motto.
According to the EUPST website: “The aim of the [2016, April 15th] Comprehensive Live Exercise will be capacity building of police and gendarmes who will participate in international stabilisation missions and projects with a police component.”
The exercise took place in an abandoned British military barracks, where, according to EUPST, the troops and militarised police officers prepared for “future missions”.
They practiced, “carousel training, with attention being given to all policing skills, including community policing and social patrols, crowd and riot control, SWAT teams and forensic investigation”.
Andrej Hunko, a journalist from left wing German Newspaper Junge Welt, asked to attend and report on the event. However, he was blocked from coming anywhere near the site.
Mr. Huko claimed that the EU force was preparing to shut down “political meetings” and “protests”. He argued that the, “militarisation of the police”, on display is, “extremely worrying and contrary in Germany to the principle of separation of police and military”.
However, the Lisbon Treaty contains a mutual defence clause, specifically binding EU Member States. Accordingly, if a member state is the victim of an armed attack on its territory, it can rely on the aid and assistance of the other member states, which are obliged to help.
This might mean the Lowlands Gendarmerie could possibly be legally deployed by the EU within member states. In October last year, EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, said“We are going to move towards an EU army much faster than people believe.”

Turkey's Islamic Supremacist Foreign Policy

Between March 29 and April 2, 2016, Turkey's president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, paid a visit to Washington D.C. to participate in the 4th Nuclear Security Summit hosted by U.S. President Barack Obama.
In an interview with CNN broadcast March 31, Erdogan said, "We will not allow an act such as giving northern Syria to a terrorist organization... We will never forgive such a wrong. We are determined about that."
Asked which terror organization he was referring to, Erdogan said: "The YPG [Kurdish People's Protection Units], the PYD [Democratic Union Party] ... and if Daesh [ISIS] has an intention of that sort then it would also never be allowed."
Erdogan was thereby once again attempting to equate Islamic State (ISIS), which has tortured, raped, sold or slaughtered so many innocent people in Syria and Iraq, with the Kurdish PYD, and its YPG militia, whose members have been fighting with their lives to defeat genocidal jihadist groups such as al-Nusra and ISIS.
The question is not why Erdogan or his government have such an intense hatred for Kurds. Turkey's genocidal policies against the Kurds are not a secret. Turkey's most recent deadly attacks are ongoing in Kurdish districts even now. The more important question is why Erdogan thinks that Turkey is the one to decide to whom the predominantly Kurdish north of Syria will belong -- or who will not rule that part of Syria.
On February 17, Turkey's capital, Ankara, was shaken by a car bomb that killed 28 people and wounded 61 others.
Turkey's Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, immediately announced that the perpetrator was a Syrian national with links to the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).
"A direct link between the attack and the YPG has been established," Davutoglu said. "The YPG attack was carried out with logistical support from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) inside Turkey. Just as al-Qaeda or Daesh do not have seats at the table, the YPG, which is a terrorist organization, cannot have one." He then once again refused to permit Kurdish YPG participation in U.N.-brokered Syria peace talks in Geneva.
Saleh Muslim, the head of Syria's Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), replied via Agence France-Presse: "We deny any involvement in this attack. These accusations are clearly related to Turkish attempts to intervene in Syria."
The General Command of the YPG also denied any involvement in the attack:
"Under challenging conditions, we are protecting our people from barbaric gangs such as ISIS and Al-Nusra. Countless states and media outlets have repeatedly reported about the support Turkey has been providing to these terrorist groups. Apart from the terrorist groups attacking us, we as YPG have engaged in no military activity against the neighboring states or other forces.
"We would like to repeat our message to the people of Turkey and the world: We have no links to this incident... We have never been involved in an attack against Turkey. The Turkish state cannot possibly prove our engagement in any kind of attack on their side because we were never involved in such an action. Turkish Prime Minister Davutoglu's remarks 'Ankara attack was conducted by YPG' is a lie and far away from the truth. With this statement, Davutoglu wants to pave the way for an offensive on Syria and Rojava and cover up Turkey's relations with the ISIS which is known to the whole world by now."
The Middle East is going through mass murders, kidnappings, rapes, the sexual slavery of women and other crimes. And Turkey's aggressive and supremacist foreign policy, which does not respect the sovereignty of its neighbors, has played a large role in this situation.
Syria and Iraq, Turkey's southern neighbors, are now the breeding ground of genocidal jihadist groups, foremost the Islamic State (ISIS). Many reporters, experts and eyewitnesses have revealed that Turkey has contributed to the rise of jihadist terrorists in the region -- by letting ISIS members get in and out of Turkey and even by providing funds, logistics, and arms for ISIS.
Inside its own boundaries, Turkey has been engaged in an all-out war against its own Kurdish citizens since last August. Turkey has been murdering them indiscriminately and destroying their homes and neighborhoods.
Turkey's hatred of Kurds is so intense that it also targets Kurdish defense forces in Syria.
On February 13, Davutoglu confirmed shelling the Kurdish YPG group in Syria, after the YPG advanced on the rebel-held town of Azaz in Syria. "We will retaliate against every step [by the YPG]," Davutoglu said. "The YPG will immediately withdraw from Azaz and the surrounding area and will not go close to it again."
The rebels in Azaz and elsewhere in Syria are mostly Islamist jihadists. According to the scholar Aymenn Jawad Al-Tamimi, Azaz was mostly controlled in early 2015 by the group Liwa Asifat al-Shamal ("Northern Storm Brigade"), affiliated with the Islamic Front. Syria's al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra ("Al-Nusra Front") also had a presence there.
"Azaz is a symbol for Turkey," said Fabrice Balanche of the Washington Institute For Near East Policy. "Prime Minister Davutoglu fears that if the Kurds capture Azaz, they could start a big offensive from Kobane to the west and from Afrin to the east," he told BBC.
As widely reported, the crisis in the region reached a peak when a Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter jet shot down a Russian Air Force Su-24 bomber along the Turkey-Syria border on November 24, killing the pilot, Lieutenant-Colonel Oleg Peshkov. The Turkish government tried to excuse the attack by claiming that the jet was downed after it had violated Turkish airspace for 17 seconds.
The Russia Defense Ministry, however, denied the aircraft ever left Syrian airspace, and released a video they claimed shows that the Su-24 was not in Turkish airspace when it was shot down.
Meanwhile, Turkey's neighbor to its West, Greece, has long been a victim of Turkey's violations of its sovereign airspace. According to data recorded by the Greek military, in 2014 alone, Turkish aircraft violated Greek airspace 2,244 times. On just one day, February 15, Turkish warplanes violated Greek airspace 22 times, according to Athens News Agency.
After Syria, Greece and Russia, Turkey's next target was its other southern neighbor, Iraq. In December, Iraq's President, Fuad Masum, said, "The presence of the Turkish Army Forces in Mosul Province without our permission violates international rules. I want Turkish officials to get its force out of Iraq's territory immediately."
Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi also condemned Turkey's action: "We have not asked Turkey for any force and no one had informed us about the arrival of the force."
Two neighbors of Turkey, Cyprus and Armenia, have also been victims of Turkish aggression -- for an even longer time.
Turkey, for more than 40 years, has been illegally occupying the northern part of the Republic of Cyprus, which it invaded with a bloody military campaign in 1974. According to historian Victor Davis Hanson:
"Thousands of settlers from Anatolia were shipped in by the Turkish government to occupy former Greek villages and to change Cypriot demography -- in the same manner the occupying Ottoman Empire once did in the 16th century. ... The island remains conquered not because the Greeks have given up, but because their resistance is futile against a NATO power of some 70 million people. Greeks know that Turkey worries little about what world thinks of its occupation."
Turkey has also been blockading yet another neighbor since 1993: "Turkey and Azerbaijan have effectively been exercising an illegal unilateral economic blockade against Armenia, which has hurt the latter economically," wrote Armen V. Sahakyan, the executive director of the Eurasian Research and Analysis Institute. "Turkey and Azerbaijan are in clear violation of the Principle of Good Neighborliness, as well as all of the General Assembly resolutions condemning unilateral coercive measures."
Turkey has been assaulting its neighbors in what appears as outbursts of Turkish Islamic supremacy. What Turkey would call a crime if committed by a non-Turkish or a non-Sunni state, Turkey sees as legitimate if Turkey itself commits it.
When Turkey invaded Cyprus, historically a Greek and Christian nation, it is not called an invasion. Turkey still refers to the 1974 military campaign as a "peace operation." Senior politicians and military officials from Turkey also participate in the official ceremonies called "the Peace and Freedom Festival," organized in occupied northern Cyprus on July 20 every year, to celebrate what they "achieved" more than 40 years ago -- namely, an ethnic cleansing and colonization campaign that they conducted through many crimes, including mass murders, wholesale and repeated rapes, torture and inhuman treatment, plundering Cypriot cultural heritage and destroying churches, among others.
If anyone blockaded another state, especially a Sunni state, Turkey would most certainly condemn it. But when Turkey itself blockades a Christian nation, it is always "justified" -- most often as a response to some "unacceptable wrongdoing" by the other side.
If a non-Turkish, or non-Sunni state, treated a Turkish or Sunni minority brutally, Turkey would passionately condemn it. But Turkey sees no harm in slaughtering its own Kurdish citizens, and devastating their towns. Turkey claims this is a just way of "fighting against terrorism."
Turkey can shoot down a Russian plane in the blink of an eye, because supposedly no one can violate Turkish airspace even for a few seconds -- or even if no such violation takes place. But Turkey can violate the Greek sovereign airspace countless times as a national sport or hobby whenever it feels like it?
If Western authorities criticize Turkey for its policies, Turkey accuses them of "intervening in Turkey's internal affairs."
For instance, when a group of journalists close to the movement of the Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen were detained in a mass arrest operation on December 14, 2014 in Turkey, the European Commission, in a joint statement, criticized the police raids and arrests of the media representatives.
EU foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini and the commissioner heading EU enlargement talks also said the arrests went "against European values."
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan responded in a public speech:
"When we take a step, someone in the European Union immediately comes up and makes a statement. According to what do you make this statement? What do you know?
"Those who have made this country wait at the gate of the European Union for 50 years, do you ever know what this [our] step is? The elements that threaten our national security -- be they members of the press, or this or that -- will get the required response. It is impossible for us to make them sovereign in this country.
"And when we take such a step, we do not think about 'what will the European Union say?' or 'will the EU accept us [as a member]?' We do not have such concerns. We will pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps. Please keep your intellect to yourselves."
Erdogan also said that the detentions were not an "issue" of press freedom and claimed that the Fethullah Gulen movement was backed by Israel, which Erdogan referred to as "the country in the south that he [Gulen] loves."
So, the European Union, of which Turkey is allegedly "striving" to be a member, cannot even issue a critical statement concerning Turkey's policies because that would "intervene in Turkish steps for national security," but Turkey can send jihadist fighters, arms or funds into Syria or Iraq and destroy lives and civilizations there?
Turkey seems to believe it always has to be strong and a leading force in the region. But if Kurds -- an indigenous, stateless and persecuted people -- are to gain a single right anywhere in the world, does Turkey find that unacceptable?
The entire history of Turkey as well as its current policies demonstrate that Turkey believes Kurds are inferior to Turks. Turkey does not even recognize the Kurds' right to be educated in Kurdish, evidently in an attempt to separate them from their identity.
"The policy of Republican Turkey since its establishment in 1923," wrote the author Amir Hassanpour, "is a typical case of what has been called 'linguicide' or 'linguistic genocide.' Forcing the Kurds to abandon their language and become native speakers of Turkish is the primary goal of the language policy."
Freedom and sovereignty are for Turks only. Kurds are just to be murdered or to be Turkey's servants. This has been the state policy of Turkey ever since it was founded in 1923.
"The master in this country is the Turk," said Mahmut Esat Bozkurt, Turkey's first Minister of Justice, in 1930. "Those who are not genuine Turks can have only one right in the Turkish fatherland, and that is to be a servant, to be a slave. We are in the most free country of the world. They call this Turkey."

Germans Increasingly Oppose Mass Immigration

 by Nick Hallett

Germans are becoming increasingly sceptical of mass immigration, with large numbers refusing to approve of their country accepting refugees and a record number putting national identity before being “global citizens”. According to a survey by GlobeScan for BBC World Service, a record number now define their primary identity as “German”, with only a minority approving of immigration from other countries.
When asked whether they agree with the statement “I see myself more as a global citizen than a citizen of Germany”, only a total of 30 per cent agreed, and of those only 4 per cent strongly agreed. In contrast 57 per cent disagreed, of whom 18 per cent disagreed strongly.
GlobeScan has asked the question eight times since 2001, and this is lowest level of agreement ever recorded. In 2002, over 60 per cent said they felt more like “global citizens” than citizens of Germany, but that figure has since dropped by more than half.
A curiously large number of people also decline to give opinions on immigration, inter-racial marriages and accepting refugees, suggesting a trend away from supporting these things but a lingering refusal to openly oppose them.
For example, only 34 per cent of Germans approve of mixed-race marriages, with an unusually high 46 per cent refusing to give an opinion and 20 per cent disapproving. The percentage not answering the question is far higher than in any other country. The next highest, Russia, is just 15 per cent.
On the topic of immigration from other countries, German respondents were also unusually coy, with 44 per cent refusing to give an opinion. Another 36 per cent disapprove of immigration, while just 27 per cent approve of it.
Fewer than half also support taking refugees fleeing conflicts in other countries, although just over half support taking refugees specifically from Syria.
Over a million migrants came to Germany last year after Chancellor Angela opened the borders to them. The decision has led to numerous social tensions and the rise of the anti-mass immigration Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
New Year’s Eve also witnessed mass sex assaults by mainly North African migrants in various German cities, most notably Cologne. As of February, police had received over 1,000 complaints from the evening with victims reporting sexual assault and theft.
The response from authorities largely served to make the resentment worse, with the mainstream media initially refusing to report the story for several days while Cologne mayor Henriette Reker told women in the city to be more careful in the future.
“The women and young girls have to be more protected in the future so these things don’t happen again,” she said.
“This means, they should go out and have fun, but they need to be better prepared, especially with the Cologne carnival coming up. For this, we will publish online guidelines that these young women can read through to prepare themselves”.

New Rochdale grooming gang fears as Asian man spotted 'luring kids into black car'

SCHOOLS in Rochdale have sent warning letters to parents after an Asian man was spotted approaching pupils in a black car.Several schools in the town were advised by police to write and send texts alerting parents after a man was seen trying to entice youngsters into his vehicle. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) received several reports in the past two weeks alone that an Asian man, driving a black Seat, was approaching pupils and trying to encourage them to get in his car. He tried to engage them in conversation by asking for directions, police said. Among the schools which have been warned are Hollingworth Academy, St Cuthbert’s RC High School and Cardinal Langley RC High School. The letter sent home by Hollingworth said: “We are dealing with several incidents across the Rochdale division within the past two weeks whereby young people of secondary school age have been approached by an Asian male in a black Seat vehicle. “The male tries to engage them in conversation by asking them to “come here” or by asking for directions.“We need to ask pupils and parents/carers to be alert, remain vigilant and report any information to the police on the 101 non-emergency number.” The school added police had told them to get the message across to pupils as soon as possible. The town has been rocked by the revelation multiple sex-rings operated in the area, involving Asian men who groomed young women. The wide-spread abuse took place between 2005 - 2013, and often involved vulnerable people, some as young as 13. Some nine men were sentenced to more than 100 years behind bars for their crimes, which included rape and, paedophilia charges and sexual assault. The revelations led to multiple independent inquires into child sexual abuse in the area, and numerous trials followed suit which saw at least nine men jailed for their actions in two separate trials in Rotherham.

Antisemitism, George Orwell and the Labour Party

 http://49yzp92imhtx8radn224z7y1.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/jeremy-corbyn.png
Labour Party head Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership is being called into question over allegations of antisemitism within his party. Photo: Wikimedia Commons.

JNS.org – “It is generally admitted that antisemitism is on the increase, that it has been greatly exacerbated by the war, and that humane and enlightened people are not immune to it. It does not take violent forms (English people are almost invariably gentle and law-abiding), but it is ill-natured enough, and in favourable circumstances it could have political results.”
So wrote George Orwell in a 1945 article for the Contemporary Jewish Record journal titled, “Antisemitism in Britain.” In that short essay, Orwell related a series of personal encounters that demonstrated how seemingly rational people afflicted with the “neurosis” of antisemitism suddenly discovered “an ability to believe stories that could not possibly be true.” For example, one of the dark rumors that spread around wartime London held that a ghastly incident on the Underground in 1942, in which around 100 people fleeing a German bombing raid were crushed during a panic-stricken dash into the entrance of a train station, was the responsibility of “the Jews.”
As Orwell pointed out, such beliefs were anchored in emotions that, in the context of the fight against Hitler, found fewer opportunities for public expression, but were articulated privately. And significantly, many of those who confessed to antisemitic tendencies belonged to the left politically. There was, Orwell wrote, the “young intellectual, Communist or near-Communist: ‘No, I do not like Jews. I’ve never made any secret of that. I can’t stick them. Mind you, I’m not antisemitic, of course.’” There was also the “very eminent figure in the Labour Party — I won’t name him, but he is one of the most respected people in England — [who] said to me quite violently: ‘We never asked these people to come to this country. If they choose to come here, let them take the consequences.’”
Sadly, not much has changed in the Labour Party of today; if anything, the habit of denying that antisemitism exists in the first place, or that its manifestations are somehow understandable in the light of the ongoing Palestinian conflict with Israel, has gotten more pronounced and much worse. That’s why, in examining the latest scandal involving Labour and the Jews, which resulted in the suspension from the party of one of its own members of parliament, Naz Shah, I found myself wondering whether there is a direct link between what Orwell witnessed at the war’s end and what we are seeing now.
Shah’s suspension followed the discovery of a post on her Facebook page two years ago in which she endorsed a proposal to “relocate Israel into United States” (sic) dreamed up by two pro-Palestinian activists. Responding to their claim that doing so would save American taxpayers $3 billion in annual aid to Israel, Shah gushed, “Problem solved and save u bank charges for £ 3BILLION you transfer yearly!” (Note well that 3 billion American dollars became 3 billion British pounds in her translation.)
In isolation, Shah’s offense would not have been the huge story that it has become in the British press. It has been correctly presented, however, as belonging to a systemic pattern of antisemitism within a political party that has governed the UK for long periods of the postwar era.
Since the far-left MP Jeremy Corbyn was elected to the party leadership last year, it seems that some new revelation of Labour antisemitism, in all cases packaged as detestation of Israel’s sovereign existence, is perpetually out there lurking. Before Shah, there was the furore over the new president of the National Union of Students, a stalwart Corbyn supporter, describing one university as a “Zionist outpost in British higher education” and ranting about “Zionist-led media outlets.” Before that, there was the resignation of the head of Oxford University’s Labour Club in order to highlight the fact that many of his ostensible comrades “have some kind of problem with Jews.” All within the last few weeks!
But rather than admitting that there is a problem, Corbyn’s Labour Party is actively denying it down instead. Perhaps the most telling aspect of the Naz Shah episode was that she had the courage to apologize — and that her apology was then censored by the unreconstructed Stalinists in the party’s publicity department. As the UK newspaper The Jewish News reported, Shah’s admission that there is a genuine problem on the left when it comes to spreading “toxic conspiracy theories, group-blame and stereotyping” about Jews was deliberately removed from the final version of her statement.
As long as Corbyn, a committed anti-Zionist, remains leader of the Labour Party, the problem of antisemitism will continue to fester. (Some observers might be tempted to quip that the biggest problem of all is Corbyn’s unelectability, but let’s not tempt fate.) As the political commentator Alan Johnson argued in Prospect magazine, “It’s hard to imagine a worse person to sort all this out than Jeremy Corbyn, who in 2012 said to the Palestinian radical Islamist Raed Saleh: ‘I look forward to giving you tea on the terrace because you deserve it!’ Many people pointed out that Salah incites violent anti-Semitism…But the problem is not that Corbyn agrees with what these people say. It is that he agrees with who they are: the resistance to empire. The apologies and the contortions begin there.”
Here we come back to George Orwell. Towards the end of the essay I quoted above, Orwell suggested that antisemitism was part of the wider sin of “nationalism” that affects even its victims. His exact words were, “Many Zionist Jews seem to me to be merely anti-Semites turned upside-down, just as many Indians and Negroes display the normal colour prejudices in an inverted form.” Yet since 1945, British society has changed dramatically. Those who occupy the “nationalist” end of its political spectrum — particularly those urging withdrawal from the European Union — do not, by and large, succumb to the temptations of Jew-baiting, though there are exceptions.
Rather, it is those who describe themselves as “internationalists” who are the most vulnerable. This is the direct consequence of a doctrinaire “anti-imperialism” that begins and ends with solidarity with one (and only one) people — the Palestinians — and which regards Jews as an integral component of the superstructure of white, colonial privilege.
Consider, therefore, the following irony. By being cast as the ultimate insiders, controlling everything from the global economy to US foreign policy, Jews end up as the ultimate outsiders in the public imagination — too suspect to benefit even from the niceties of the Britain’s generally anti-racist political culture, especially once their emotional, familial, or other ties with the State of Israel are brought into play.
This is a problem that goes much deeper than just Jeremy Corbyn, and is certainly not restricted to the UK. That’s why, even if his observations on the causes of antisemitism were sometimes wide of the mark, Orwell was absolutely correct when he counseled that “antisemitism should be investigated — and I will not say by antisemites, but at any rate by people who know that they are not immune to that kind of emotion.” (My emphasis.)
For the time being, the Labour Party’s apparatchiks have made clear that this is the last thing they want — hence their rewrite of Naz Shah’s apology. Even so, and whether they like it or not, the investigation recommended by Orwell at the midpoint of the last century has now begun.
