A shootout in a Basel cafe at close to 8.15pm local time has left two people dead and one seriously injured, the Swiss public prosecutor has said. "The investigation carried out by the criminal investigation department of the prosecutor's office revealed that two men apparently entered Café 56 and shot several times," the prosecutor's office said. Swiss daily "Tages Anzeiger" reported that the shootout took place at Cafe 56 in Erlenstrasste, Kleinbasel, where several bullet holes could be seen in the window. It is understood the perpetrators escaped the restaurant and the area is still in lockdown. Police remain on site with a forensic team, the newspaper reported. No other patrons in the restaurant are believed to be injured.
