SWEDISH police have arrested a man believed to be armed after he stormed a university this afternoon.A large police operation was launched at Mid Sweden University in Ostersund after receiving reports of a man carrying the pistol-like object. Police cordoned off the area around the campus, while officers – including six squads and three dog patrols – searched the buildings.Witnesses reported seeing police cars scattered across the campus along with police officers wearing bulletproof vests patrolling the area in pairs. Police also blocked all entrances and exits, while many students were taken home because they were so worried.According to one student, the man – who is is described as in his 20s, dressed in a hooded jumper and a bomber style jacket – was spotted in what is known as the G-house. The search was quickly entended and police have now confirmed one man has been arrested following the incident. At a press conference this afternoon, police said they are confident that they arrested the right person. All those in the area had been advised to stay inside during the large scale police operation, while another 50 to 75 people were spotted outside the campus after some classrooms were evacuated.But the sarch has now come to an end after the suspect was apprehended.Prior to the arrest, a police spokesman said: "According to preliminary information, there is an observation of a man possibly handling a gun. "The same preliminary data says that a man went into one of the buildings in the area." Börje Öhman, the press officer at the police regional command centre, claimed he was unaware of any specific threat made by the suspect. He added: "We have the right people in place. I do not know of any threats against this campus or the companies that are nearby."
