A 13-year-old girl from Rees was sexually harassed by a 25-year-old man yesterday evening (24 July 2018) around 7.30 pm in downtown Rees. The girl had said goodbye to a friend at the bus station and then walked along a footpath through a grove towards Sahler Street. Three men were in this grove, one of them following the girl. The man addressed the girl in broken German and English and asked her to stop. Then he grabbed the 13-year-old by the arm and held her. In the following conversation he offered the girl money for sexual acts, among other things. The young girl from Rees called "Stop" several times and ran away, the man followed her.The 13-year-old rang the bell at several front doors of Sahler Street, but did not meet any residents. The girl was now walking towards the city centre. On the Vor dem Falltor street , the weeping 13-year-old first met an acquaintance and shortly afterwards an uncle. After she had told him about the incident, the uncle approached the man, but he ran away. On Empeler Street, near Weseler Street, the uncle was able to catch up with the man and hold him until the alarmed police arrived. The suspect is a 25-year-old Indian citizen from Erftstadt, who says he is currently in Rees. The man was arrested, further investigations by the criminal police are underway.
