Burqa Free !

Gudrun Eussner / Frans Groenendijk

No Walfare for Burquas

A Dutch citizen of Moroccan descent has more common sense than most multiculturally self-blinded Dutch officials: Amsterdam Mulls Axing Dole for Women in Burqas.
An official in Holland’s biggest city wants to introduce legislation that would ban unemployed women who wear a burqa from receiving welfare payments if it prevents them from finding a job. The issue is the latest Dutch soul-searching over its relations with its own immigrants.
If this burqa is keeping you from getting a job, Amsterdam Social Affairs Alderman Ahmed Aboutaleb argues, you shouldn’t be wearing it.
The Multicultural Netherlands is having a serious identity crisis. These days, the country’s immigrant melting pot is feeling more like a powderkeg. The latest spark in Holland’s mini culture war came this week from the social affairs alderman for the city of Amsterdam, who says women who wear burqas are having trouble finding jobs. His solution? Take it off or lose your benefits.
Ahmed Aboutaleb has proposed introducing legislation that would allow the city to cut welfare payments to women who insist on wearing a burqa if it can prove the full-body covering is the reason she can’t find a job.
“Nobody wants to hire someone with a burqa,” he told the Dutch women’s magazine Opzij. “In that case, I say: off with the burqa and apply for work. If you don’t want to do that, that’s fine, but you don’t get a benefit payment.”
Aboutaleb, a member of Amsterdam’s Labor Party (PvdA) and a Dutch citizen of Moroccan descent, made the comments in response to a recent ruling by Holland’s Equality Commission siding with a Muslim woman who refused to shake hands with men at work.
The politician questioned whether she should be involved in education, with such rigid self-restrictions. “She has to realize that her behavior is building enormous obstacles for her in almost every situation. This woman must recognize that she is sidelining herself and that she runs the risk of being turned down for other jobs, too.”

Soccer-Ahmadinejad:Iran has ignored a UN Security Council demand to suspend all nuclear fuel enrichment

Stop Soccer-Rikowski

After who knows how many millions of dollars, and who knows how much wasted time, the UN’s blind, toothless nuclear watchdog agency has released their report on Iran, telling us what any human being with at least one functioning synapse has known for years: Iran ‘fails to heed nuclear call’.
Iran has ignored a UN Security Council demand to suspend all nuclear fuel enrichment, the head of the UN’s nuclear watchdog has concluded.
Mohamed ElBaradei told the UN Security Council that Tehran had done little to answer questions over its intentions.
The UN wants the research halted amid Western fears - denied by Iran - that Tehran might develop nuclear weapons. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said earlier Iran did not “give a damn” about UN resolutions over its research.
Mr ElBaradei, chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), told the Security Council that Iran had not halted its programme and had not given information on key issues. “After more than three years of agency efforts to seek clarity about all aspects of Iran’s nuclear programme, the existing gaps in knowledge continue to be a matter of concern,” his report said. “Any progress in that regard requires full transparency and active co-operation by Iran.”

Soccer-Ahmadinejad:Useless Resolutions

Stop Soccer-Rikowski

Iranian madman Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has a very accurate view of the United Nations: Iran ‘Won’t Give a Damn’ About Resolution.
VIENNA, Austria - Iran “won’t give a damn” about any U.N. resolutions concerning its nuclear program, its president said Friday, hours before an expected finding that Tehran has failed to meet a Security Council deadline to suspend uranium enrichment. The anticipated finding by U.N. nuclear chief Mohamed ElBaradei will set the stage for a confrontation at the Security Council. ...
But Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said no Security Council resolution could make Iran give up its nuclear program.
“The Iranian nation won’t give a damn about such useless resolutions,” Ahmadinejad told thousands of people in Khorramdareh in northwestern Iran.
“Today, they want to force us to give up our way through threats and sanctions but those who resort to language of coercion should know that nuclear energy is a national demand and by the grace of God, today Iran is a nuclear country,” state-run television quoted him as saying.

In Birmingham, the benevolent face of jihad

Julia Gorin reports in Jewish World Review (thanks to Sparta) on some egregious Alabama dhimmitude. (News links in the original.)
Earlier this month, Rabbi Jonathan Miller of Birmingham's Temple Emanu-El hosted Bosnia's Grand Mufti Mustafa Ceric to address an interfaith audience at his synagogue so that we Jews and Christians might "make room in our hearts and souls for others who believe differently from us," as his op-ed in The Birmingham News read. According to one attendee, the mufti packed a big house and the evening was replete with Martin Luther King tie-ins and civil rights-era imagery.
The rabbi should have done some research first. Ceric recently called on the world to stand by Syria, a state that sponsors terrorism against Israel and U.S. forces in Iraq, among other targets. During the March, 2004 pogroms in Kosovo against Orthodox Christian Serbs by Albanian Muslims — in which 19 people were killed, dozens of churches and cemeteries destroyed, and close to 4,000 of Kosovo's minority Serbs displaced — reported that Ceric "expressed concern about the rise of anti-Islamic hysteria in the West." He added that there was "no such thing as Islamic terrorism," and assured reporters that there were no charities linked to al-Qaeda operating in Bosnia.
In fact, a article titled "Jihadists Find Convenient Base in Bosnia" reported that "terrorists who previously targeted the U.S. are now in Bosnia, where they have access to a 'one-stop shop' of jihad training camps, weapons and illegal Islamic 'charities' — all at the doorstep of Europe."
Read it all.

Sweden has issued visas to Hamas.
Swedish Ambassador to Israel, Robert Rydberg was summoned to the Foreign Ministry on Thursday to explain his government’s decision to give visas to Hamas members to enter Sweden.
Director-General of the Foreign Ministry Ron Prossor said that Stockholm’s decision effectively legitimizes terrorism, and that one cannot make the distinction between a terrorist organization and its members, Israel Radio reported.

EU Referendum (via PJM) accuses Sweden of being "precious" in announcing its withdrawal from European military exercises due to be held next month in Italy because of Israel's participation, but I think it's a bit more than that. The Scandinavian country has a "mixed record" these days where the Jewish state is concerned. Of course, as EU Referendum points out, the Swedes seem quite willing to make deals with the Israelis when it comes to buying military equipment. But, as we know, "balance" must be maintained between the parties in the peace process. In that case, perhaps they would like to make a donation to fill this short fall.

Soccer-Ahmadinejad:Iran has missiles that put Europe in range: report

Stop Soccer-Rikowski

Well, yes, but they plan to use them only as minarets. From Reuters, with thanks to JE (both for link and quip):
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Iran has received a first shipment of missiles from North Korea that are capable of reaching Europe, Israel's military intelligence chief was quoted on Thursday as saying.
Known in the West as BM-25s, the Russian-designed missiles have a range of around 1,500 miles, giving them a longer reach than the Iranian-made Shihab-4 missiles which are capable of hitting Israel.
The intelligence chief, Major-General Amos Yadlin, was quoted by Israel's Haaretz newspaper as saying in a lecture on Wednesday that some BM-25s had arrived in Iran.

Soccer-Ahmadinejad:Add your voice today to our urgent campaign now

Today, as millions of people around the world commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day and remember the six million Jews who were murdered by the Nazis during World War II, there is one world leader committed to completing Adolf Hitler's vision.Sixty-one years since the end of the Shoah, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is calling for Israel's annihilation, even as he constantly vilifies the Jewish people, and labels the Nazi Holocaust a "myth".This week, after learning of the reported planned attendance by Iran's President at the World Cup in Germany this June, an immediate protest was launched by the Simon Wiesenthal Center. We are now asking you to join with us to strengthen our campaign to bar Iran's President from being an honored guest at one of the world's most prestigious sporting events. The Iranian President (pictured left) is pursuing his dangerous and inflammatory campaign against Israel and the Jews, even as he rushes to nuclearize Iran. The international community must show that there are consequences for such policies. Allowing Ahmadinejad to sit in the VIP section at the World Cup would conjure up bitter memories of the 1936 Olympic Games when leaders of the Third Reich sat in the VIP section in Berlin, a move that gained them stature and acceptance throughout the world.Ironically, Iran's national soccer team will play in Nuremberg's stadium, just a stone's throw from the very first Nazi marches. And, while Nuremberg's mayor hopes to prevent the visit, he is preparing the city for demonstrations in support of Ahmadinejad and for marches by neo-Nazis hoping to welcome a kindred spirit from Tehran. Please join us in urging the President of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), Mr. Joseph S. Blatter, to bar President Ahmadinejad from attending the games unless and until he withdraws his statements denying the Nazi Holocaust and calling for the obliteration of the State of Israel.Ahmadinejad's attendance would be a desecration of the memory of the Jews murdered by the Nazis, would make a mockery of their suffering, and would only further embolden his dangerous regime.Add your voice today to our urgent campaign now. By clicking here you will be sending a letter directly to Mr. Joseph Blatter demanding that action be taken. After signing the petition please forward to your friends, family, and colleagues. Please help support this urgent campaign. Your contribution will help continue our crucial work on your behalf.

Soccer-Ahmadinejad:Iran 'worst threat to Jews since Hitler'

Iran's nuclear programme is the most serious threat faced by Jews since the Nazi holocaust, Israel's defence minister has said.

He added: "Since Hitler we have not faced such a threat."

Soccer-Ahmadinejad:Iranian President Elaborates on His Plan for the Jews to Leave Israel and Return to Germany and Austria

Stop Soccer-Rikowski

Following are excerpts from a speech delivered by Iranian President Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, aired on Iranian News Channel (IRINN) on April 24, 2006, brought to us by MEMRI TV:
Iranian President Ahmadinejad: The greatest problem from which humanity suffers today, the main problem facing the countries of the Middle East, is the continuation of the process that took place during World War II.
Although they claim that their hearts bleed for the Jews, during World War II and following it they caused the widespread phenomenon of anti-Judaism in two or three European countries. If you support the Jews - how do you explain this anti-Judaism? Why did you turn Europe in its entirety into a place unsafe for the Jews? Could there possibly be another reason than creating unsafe conditions for the Jews, so they would flee and find shelter in Palestine?
Why do you think they are safe in Palestine? These people, who left their homelands as a result of your pressure and anti-Judaism, went to a country that did not belong to them. Different minorities from different countries came to live side by side, just like pieces of paper joined together with a paper clip. They live in an atmosphere of insecurity on a daily basis. I've said this once, and I'll say it again: Open the gates of this big prison. Allow these people to decide freely, and you will see that they will return to their homelands. Of course, you must first let go of your anti-Judaism. You must let go of it. We believe that just like the rest of mankind, the Jews have the right to live a life of prosperity, freedom, and security. Set them free, and let them return to their homelands.
Now allow me to say a few words to the people of Germany and Austria. Look at the atmosphere in the world today. See how those who purport to promote human rights and democracy actually want to run the world. Sixty years ago a war took place, and 60 million people were killed by both sides. If we had any power in those days, we would have prevented this carnage. To the best of our ability we would not have allowed such a massacre. Sixty years have passed since that war, and the people of Palestine are still paying the price for a war in which they did not participate. The people of today's Germany are paying reparation for a war in which they themselves did not participate.
My question is the following: Let's assume that 60 years ago a certain regime in Germany started a certain war, and certain crimes were committed. Three generations later - what is the fault of the current German generation that it must be so humiliated? Why can't it play an independent role in international relations? They are constantly being reminded that their parents were criminals. Monuments are built there. All countries build monuments for things that they are proud of, and when tourists come, they show them these monuments. Over there, they build monuments, and every German who passes by a park is constantly reminded: "Look, you are the son of criminals, and you must be humiliated."
In culture, science, and international politics, Germany should have a prominent standing. But 60 years later, they are still held prisoner by a handful of people, who themselves had planned all the events of that era. Now they say that no one is allowed to talk about or research this event. Why not research it?
Why should a small handful of people ignite the entire world, merely in order to fill their pockets? Why? We are against this method of running the world, and we say this clearly. I am declaring clearly that I am against the policies of the U.S. and England in running the world. And by the way, I support peace and quiet, and I am a very peace-loving man...

As almost anyone could have predicted, the submission of the West to Islamic demands over the Danish Mohammed cartoons is prompting more aggressive behavior: German brothel made to remove S.Arabia, Iran flags.
BERLIN (Reuters) - A brothel in Cologne was forced to black out the flags of Saudi Arabia and Iran from a huge World Cup soccer-themed advertising banner after angry Muslims complained and threatened violence. The 24-metre-high by 8-metre-wide (78 by 26 ft) banner displayed on the side of the building features a scantily-clad woman and the slogan:
“The world as a guest of female friends,” a variation on the World Cup slogan: “The world as a guest of friends”.
The flags of the 32 nations taking part in the month-long soccer tournament which kicks off in June are shown below. Those of Saudi Arabia and Iran have been covered with black paint, according to a worker at the brothel who would only give his name as Peter.
“Some people turned up and demanded that we remove the flags,” Peter told Reuters. “First they were sensible but then they became threatening. The management here decided to do it so that we didn’t get any more trouble.”
“They didn’t want these two flags to be associated with this go-go girl on the banner as it’s a brothel and it offended their religious feelings,” said a spokeswoman for the Cologne police.

Soccer-Ahmadinejad:Iran Ready to Transfer Nuclear Know-How

Stop Soccer-Rikowski

Joining our "staunch ally in the war on terror," Pakistan, the Iranians also want to help spread the joy of the Islamic bomb. From AP:
TEHRAN, Iran — Iran's top leader said Tuesday that Tehran is ready to transfer its nuclear technology to other countries. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made the comments in a meeting with visiting Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, who said last month that his impoverished, wartorn country was considering trying to create a nuclear program to generate electrical power.
"Iran's nuclear capability is one example of various scientific capabilities in the country. ... The Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared to transfer the experience, knowledge and technology of its scientists," Khamenei told al-Bashir at their meeting.
Al-Bashir congratulated Iran for its success in producing enriched uranium for the first time, saying the achievement was a "great success for the world of Islam."

Soccer-Ahmadinejad:Israel Is a 'Fake Regime'

Stop Soccer-Rikowski

The mainstream media are at it again, concealing the true extent of another hate-filled speech by Iranian madman Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
This AP story mentions his genocidal threats, but quotes only three sentences from a very long rant: Iran President: Israel Is a ‘Fake Regime’.
And to the AP’s Nasser Karimi, threatening to destroy Israel is just a form of “criticism.”
TEHRAN, Iran - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday renewed his criticism of Israel, calling it a “fake regime” that cannot continue to exist.
“Some 60 years have passed since the end of World War II. Why should the people of Germany and Palestine pay now for a war in which the current generation was not involved?” Ahmadinejad said at a news conference. “We say that this fake regime (Israel) cannot logically continue to live,” he said.
This AFP story on the same speech doesn’t even mention the threats: Iran president says no need for talks with US on Iraq.
Neither does this one: Ahmadinejad says UN sanctions ‘unlikely’.
The release from al-Reuters also completely ignores the threats: Iran president says no need now for US talks.
A cynic might conclude that the media are shying away from reporting Ahmadinejad’s insanity because they want to avoid creating support for a preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

West: Speak no evil: The new EU lexicon on terrorism

The redoubtable Diana West speaks truth to power about the EU's latest exercise in Orwellianism:
How wunderbar, merveilleux and perfectly ripping that the European Union is creating a new "lexicon" to discuss Islam and terrorism so as never to conflate the two. The Telegraph tells us that EU officials -- having double-checked that George Orwell and his satirical pen are dead and gone -- are putting together a "non-emotive lexicon for discussing radicalization."
Islamic "radicalization," that is. When it comes to dealing with Europe's Muslim populations, the old "Sticks and stones ..." proverb is out, particularly the "words can never hurt me" part. These days, the update goes: "Say words that hurt me and I'll blow up a train." As an EU official explained non-emotively, "The basic idea is to avoid the use of improper words that could cause frustration among Muslims and increase the risk of radicalization."
As they say over there: What rot. Only hothouse EU officials could believe that words such as "Islamic terrorism" cause radicalization. Fanatical bloodlust (not to mention 72-virgin-lust) inspires acts labeled "Islamic terrorism," not the other way around. But not in EU-land. "These words (Islamic terrorism) cannot sit side by side," Omar Faruk, a Muslim barrister and "adviser" to the British government, told Reuters. The phrase "just creates a culture where terrorism actually is identified with Islam," he continued. "That causes me a lot of stress."
Horrors! A lot of stress! The poor dear. I trust he is taking up his complaint with bin Laden, Zawahri, Zarqawi, etc.
Read it all.

EU stamps out Islamic terrorism!

Orwellianism is in the saddle in the EU, and the solons are busy sharpening their Newspeak lexicon. An update on this story. "Fighting terrorism one word at a time: The European Union balks at 'Islamic terrorism' and other phrases. It's working on a lexicon that counters the terrorists' terminology." From the Christian Science Monitor, with thanks to all who sent this in:
Officials in Brussels have embarked on an unusual exercise, combing their dictionaries to excise words and phrases that could cause offense.
When the review is complete and the rules laid down, you will not, for example, hear EU officials talk any more about "Islamic terrorism."
That sort of shorthand reference to the bombings in Madrid and London, and other outrages committed in the name of Islam, is commonplace today. But EU policymakers worry that it lumps all Muslims into the same category, and angers them.
"There is no justification at all for including all law-abiding Muslim citizens in our messages about terrorism," says Friso Roscam-Abbing, an EU spokesman. "The politically more correct term will be 'terrorism that abusively invokes Islam.' "
"That may be all very long and cumbersome," he acknowledges. "But millions of Muslims live in the EU, and they are simply not terrorists."
To speak of "Islamic terrorism" doesn't include "all law-abiding Muslim citizens in...messages about terrorism." It merely acknowledges the fact that the perpetrators of this terrorism justify and fuel it by reference to Islamic concepts. The idea that they "abusively" invoke Islam is highly questionable, since these "law-abiding Muslim citizens" have come up with no effective refutation of their theology on Islamic grounds, and have not made any move to bar them from their communities. If they are abusively invoking Islam, why aren't these law-abiding Muslim citizens leading efforts to resist them?
Mr. Roscam-Abbing may be prepared to admit to political correctness, but he rejects accusations that the EU is soft-soaping "Islamic radicals" - another phrase that is coming under the microscope.
"We are very tough on combating terrorism," he insists. "We will absolutely continue to detect the bad guys and prevent them from committing terrorist acts. But at the same time we are respectful of citizens' beliefs."
Sure, Roscam-Abbing. But unfortunately, pretending that you don't have the problem that you have will not make it go away.

The Times of London reports that Iranian madman Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has joined forces with one of the world’s most accomplished terrorists, Imad Mugniyeh: Plot for revenge attacks on West. (Hat tip: Allah.)
IRAN’S president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, attended a meeting in Syria earlier this year with one of the world’s most wanted terrorists, according to intelligence experts and a former national security official in Washington.
US officials and Israel intelligence sources believe Imad Mugniyeh, the Lebanese commander of Hezbollah’s overseas operations, has taken charge of plotting Iran’s retaliation against western targets should President George W Bush order a strike on Iranian nuclear sites.
Mugniyeh is on the FBI’s “Most Wanted Terrorists” list for his role in a series of high-profile attacks against the West, including the 1985 hijacking of a TWA jet and murder of one of its passengers, a US navy diver.
Now in his mid-forties, Mugniyeh is reported to have travelled with Ahmadinejad in January this year from Tehran to Damascus, where the Iranian president met leaders of Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and Hamas.

Nuremberg's stadium is situatedjust dozens of meters from the first Nazi marching square and the enormous conference hall built for Hitler. The huge structure, which was never completed, is used today as historical testimony to the Nazi era.The arrival of Iran's soccer team would not be causing such a stir, would it not be for the Holocaust denials of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his plans to arrive at the city in order to cheer on his team.In the halls of government in Berlin, officials believe that the Iranian president will not arrive in the end. Therefore, they do not see a point in comply with a call by the Wiesenthal Center to declare Ahmadinejad as persona non grata."Ahmadinejad won't be our guest and he is not wanted among us," Maly told Yedioth Ahronoth, Israel's leading newspaper."From the minute FIFA decided not to boycott Iran in the world cup, the arrival of the Iranians turned into a problem for the German government. We would prefer that other teams play here. I don't plan to prevent demonstrations against Ahmadinejad and against his intolerable statements on the Holocaust and the destruction of the State of Israel," he said.

EU Not Concerned Money Goes to Palestinian Terrorism

Former European Union MP Ilka Schroeder gives us an insider’s view on the EU’s support for Palestinian terrorism: Georgetown visiting prof starting center on anti-Semitism in Germany. (Hat tip: Moi Aussi.)
In the ensuing months, after published reports revealed that the P.A. was directing E.U. financial aid toward the financing of terrorism, she pushed the E.U. Parliament to open an investigation into the matter. She said the only way she could get fellow legislators interested in the matter was to emphasize the P.A.’s corruption, since not many were particularly concerned about the diversion of the money for violent acts.
Eventually, she said the Parliament did convene a “working group” on the matter — on which she was not included — but that no investigation was launched because it could not be proven that the E.U.’s money went directly from their pocket to paying for suicide bombs, which Schroeder found ridiculous.
“They were asking for something impossible” to prove, she said.
Since Hamas took over the Palestinian government, the E.U. has suspended its $600 million in aid to the Palestinians, but Schroeder is not optimistic that the freeze will continue indefinitely. She believes that the eventual E.U. goal is to “challenge the U.S. position [of pre-eminent power] in the Middle East” and across the globe, and funding the Palestinians is one way to do that. ...
Schroeder estimates that as many as one-third of Europeans might believe that Israel was behind a conspiracy to commit the Sept. 11 attacks. And she says that displaying sympathy for Israel has led to accusations from fellow legislators that she is being “paid by the Mossad.”
For many, their anti-Israel and anti-Semitic views fit into their anti-globalization ideology, which states that the “financial sphere” dictates how the world operates and that Jews are influential in that sphere, Schroeder said.

"Mein Kampf" in Turkey

Jihad Watch Board Vice President Hugh Fitzgerald explains why Rumsfeld, Rice and Co. ought to be making serious plans about Turkey now:
For half a century Bernard Lewis has written, and more recently has given advice, on the assumption that Kemalism has worked. By Kemalism, of course, I mean, and Lewis means, the series of measures that together were intended by Kemal Pasha, or Ataturk, to systematically deprive Islam in Turkey of much of its political and social influence. In some ways it has indeed worked. Possibly as much as one-quarter of Turkey's population was able to become secular. But those secular Turks were not sufficiently grateful nor sufficiently vigilant. And they were willing to limit, for all the world like liberals in the Western, Infidel lands, the power of the army. But secularists in Turkey could not afford to be like liberals in the Infidel lands. They were dealing with Islam -- quite a different matter.
Some of those secularists have begun to retreat from that secularism and have begun to rediscover wondrous Islam, in rally-round-the-Qur'an fashion. Others (see Mustafa Akyol) have tried to present seemingly plausible (to them) but utterly cockamamie ideas about how to "reform" Islam. Akyol thinks that all one has to do is throw out the Hadith and Muhammad's biography, and then that inoffensive Qur'an will turn those threatening Muslims into the non-threatening Muslims that they were back in -- oh, back in 680 or 700 A.D., before the Hadith, and before that biography of Muhammad.

Erdogan tied to Islamic forces

Photo:Turkish Nazis

By Andrew Borowiec

NICOSIA, Cyprus -- An escalation of warnings about a growing Islamic threat in Turkey is putting new pressures on the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, possibly damaging its role as Washington's key ally in the area. In increasingly bitter verbal exchanges with President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Mr. Erdogan rejected charges that he is leading Turkey away from its secular system toward Islamic fundamentalism. Mr. Sezer's latest broadside was a statement to the War Academy that "religious fundamentalism has reached dramatic proportions." Islamic fundamentalism "is trying to infiltrate politics, education and the state, it is systematically eroding values," Mr. Sezer said. "Religious people also have a right to politics. ... If you want to keep the faithful out of politics, the people will never forgive you," Mr. Erdogan said in response. "Anti-secular forces are threatening Turkey and its institutions," headlined the mass-circulation Istanbul daily Cumhuriyet. European diplomats caution that part of the campaign is aimed at the presidential election next year, with the opposition trying to discredit Mr. Erdogan's credentials. Under the Turkish system, the parliament chooses the republic's president. The nasty debate between secularist and pro-Islamic forces once again has raised the question of Turkey's candidacy in the European Union and its role as America's trusted ally. However, despite the increasingly pessimistic assessment in the press of U.S.-Turkey relations, one diplomat said, "there are still more areas of common interests than differences." Mr. Erdogan denies that his governing Justice and Development Party (AKP), which evolved from the banned Islamic Party, is "returning to its Islamic roots" or that he has "hidden Islamic agenda." "Our duty is to defend the principle of secularism without making religious people uneasy," said Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin. However, diplomatic reports say the influential Turkish army is skeptical and increasingly watchful. Army generals are anti-Islamist and regard themselves to be the guardians of the republican system established in 1923 by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Mr. Erdogan's policies were defended by the English-language New Anatolian daily, which wrote that the prime minister and his party are trying to prove that "Turkey is the only example for the Middle East region showing that democracy can coexist with Islam." Mr. Sezer often has vetoed laws he considered to be pro-Islamic and prevented appointments of bureaucrats known for their Islamic orientation. The ruling AKP was swept to power in 2002 after a series of ineffective coalition governments accused of corruption. It claims an impressive record of halting an economic collapse, of securing Turkey's candidacy for the European Union and of improvement of political rights. Critics point out that the party tried unsuccessfully to push through plans for a greater role of Islam in education and for branding adultery as a criminal offense. It also has failed in its efforts to abolish the ban on head scarf for women in public buildings.

Muslim Albanian violence against Serbian Christians

A disquieting report from Jihad Watch reader Sparta: "On the heels of the death threat against Bishop Artemije of Kosovo and the Islamofascist-organized demonstration against Decani monastery (April 14 and 8), there's now more indication of Muslim Albanian violence brewing against Serbian Christians -- and that the dhimmified "international community" knows it. These latest escalations are remniscent of the lead-up to the March 2004 riots by Albanian Muslims that left 19 people dead, 900 people injured (including 65 international members of UN and NATO), 4,100 people chased from their homes (most of them Serbs), about 800 Serb and Roma (Gypsy) houses and apartments looted and torched, and 30 Serbian Orthodox holy shrines either completely destroyed or heavily damaged. If this is what is happening now with international babysitters (mostly from Christian countries!) what will happen when and if Kosovo is declared to be an independent Muslim state?"

The project is in its final stage and crisis headquarters that will receive Serbs who would leave Kosovo are being set up, Montenegrin newspaper Dan reads today. Trajkovic expressed her regret the World Trade Organization participates in a project for moving Serbians from Kosovo. "I am waiting for official reaction from Belgrade because instead of creating an environment to keep the Serbs in Kosovo there is a project that proposes leaving it," Trajkovic noted.
Threat Against Bishop Artemije
Cleveland Plain DealerSaturday, April 15, 2006
Supporters of Bishop Artemije, the main Serbian Orthodox Church official for the regions of Kosovo and Metohija in the former Yugoslavia, say the outspoken cleric may be the target of an assassination plot.
Artemije visited St. Sava Cathedral in Parma in February on a tour of the United States to oppose the Kosovo region becoming an independent state. In his talks here, Artemije said terrorist activity by the Albanian majority against the remaining Serbian population would rival al-Qaida's if independence is granted.
Rada Trajkovic, an executive board member of the Serbian National Council of Kosovo and Metohija, said a group of "Muslim Albanian terrorists" in the Podujeco area of Kosovo are planning the attack.
She has raised those concerns both to Serbian newspapers and to the U.N. Mission in Kosovo but complained that the United Nations did only a "cursory" investigation....

Soccer-Ahmadinejad:Death Cult Recruitment Fair

An Iranian terrorist group is recruiting British Muslims for suicide bombings against Israel, the US, Britain—and Salman Rushdie: Iranian group seeks British suicide bombers.
The Committee for the Commemoration of Martyrs of the Global Islamic Campaign, which claims to be independent but has the backing of the regime, said it is targeting potential recruits in Britain because of the relative ease with which UK passport-holders can enter Israel.
The claim came hours after nine people were killed by a suicide bomber in Tel Aviv, and days after a prediction by the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, that Israel would be blown away in a “storm”. President George Bush refused to rule out a limited nuclear strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Mohammad Samadi, a spokesman for the group, told the Guardian that striking at Israel was the priority of his recruitment drive. “The first target is Israel. For us, that is the battlefield,” he said. “All the Jews are targets, whether military or civilian. It’s our land and they are in the wrong place. It’s their duty to pay attention to safety of their own families and move them away from the battlefield,” he said.
Mr Samadi’s group was participating in a recruitment fair for “martyrdom seekers” being held in the grounds of the former US embassy in Tehran. Several hundred volunteers have signed up for missions in the past few days.
Volunteers attracted to his group were asked to complete forms specifying whether they prefer to carry out operations against “the Quds occupiers” [Israel], the British author Salman Rushdie - subject of a death sentence passed by Iran’s late spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, over The Satanic Verses - or “the occupiers of Islamic lands”, the US and Britain. ...
Mr Samadi was standing at an exhibition stall festooned with portraits of Palestinian suicide bombers, including pictures of the aftermaths of attacks. It also featured a tribute to Rachel Corrie, the American peace activist killed by an Israeli army bulldozer in Gaza three years ago. A banner outside the fair read: “There is no voice higher than intifada.” Nearby stood a mock model of the Statue of Liberty, with iron bars cut into the torso to symbolise a prison cell. ...
“Britain and other European countries have a lot of disaffected Muslims who are ready. We understand the suspicion with which Britain, America and other western countries regard their Muslim populations. We don’t condemn them for this because we believe every Muslim has the potential to turn into a bomb against the west.”

An interesting story: I didn't realize it, but Germany never has opened up certain of its archives of the Nazi era, specifically, the records of those who were imprisoned or sent to concentration camps. It has now agreed to do so:
Germany announced Tuesday it has agreed to open the Nazi archive of 50 million records that have been stored since the end of World War II.
The Bad Arolsen archive covers 17 million people who were executed or sent to concentration camps or prisons. German Justice Minister Brigitte Zypries announced the government's change of heart in a news conference at the U.S. Holocaust Museum in Washington, The New York Times reported.
Until now, Germany has resisted opening the archive on the ground that the records contain too much personal information about the prisoners and others. The claims of history would seem paramount, however, with respect to one of the greatest horrors ever perpetrated.

Crisis in Europe

By Bruce Bawer
Eurabia is no fairytale.

Soccer-Ahmadinejad: Iranian Domestic Terrorist Politics

The mullahs have publicly promised $50 million to the destruction of Israel, but the Iranian public isn’t happy about it: Iran’s Hamas largesse gets mixed reaction at home.
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran may win Arab friends by pledging $50 million to the cash-strapped Palestinian Authority, but at home the Islamic Republic’s largesse received a mixed response on Monday.
“I wish they had thought of the likes of me before they went lavishing Iranian money on others,” said Farideh, as she sought donations in a south Tehran street to buy her dead son a gravestone.
“Do the Palestinians look more needy than I do?” said the 65-year-old, who like others asked for her full name not be used when criticizing the government on a sensitive political issue.
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, speaking at a conference on the Palestinian cause in Tehran, said on Sunday his government was giving $50 million to the Palestinian Authority to fill gaps left by Western aid cuts.
The Islamic Republic has long championed the cause of fellow Muslims in the Palestinian areas, and some analysts say the latest move is part of a diplomatic effort to win regional backing in its nuclear dispute with the West.
But the Palestinian issue does not stir the same popular emotions in non-Arab Iran as it does in nearby Arab states.
“As they say, a lantern that can light your home, should not be donated, even to the mosque,” said 60-year-old retired government worker Kourosh, adding that the Iranian government would be better spending its money at home.

Terrorists Recruiting "White Muslims"

Islamic terror gangs with the guts to attack the West, united in a common purpose, quickly figured out after 9/11 that despite the official pronouncements, operatives who fit the “Middle Eastern profile” would have a more difficult time carrying out attacks. So this report from the Associated Press doesn’t exactly come as a shock; the surprise here is that the headline uses the dreaded T word without scare quotes: Terrorists Recruiting ‘White Muslims’.
SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina - His code name was Maximus, and he held secret meetings in a shabby room at the Banana City Hotel on the outskirts of Sarajevo.
Bosnian police put him under surveillance, and in a raid last fall on his apartment on Poligonska Street, authorities seized explosives, a suicide bomber belt and a videotape of masked men begging Allah’s forgiveness for what they were about to do.
What they planned, investigators believe, was to blow up a European embassy. But compounding their concern, they say, was the ringleader’s background: Maximus turned out to be Mirsad Bektasevic, a 19-year-old Swedish citizen of Serbian origin with ties to a senior al-Qaida operative.
Terrorists have been working to recruit non-Arab sympathizers — so-called “white Muslims” with Western features who theoretically could more easily blend into European cities and execute attacks — according to classified intelligence documents obtained by The Associated Press.
A 252-page confidential report jointly compiled by Croatian and U.S. intelligence on potentially dangerous Islamic groups in Bosnia suggests the recruitment drive may have begun as long as four years ago, when Arab militants ran up against tough post-9/11 security obstacles.
If this terrorist recruitment drive is successful (i.e., results in a mass murder of innocent people) the multicult crowd will find it a bit harder to apply the “racist” smear to critics of Islam.

Turkey: Fear Prevails after Priest's Murder

A Let-Them-Into-the-EU Alert: "Fear Prevails after Priest's Murder," from Der Spiegel, with thanks to Mathew:
Christians are a vanishing minority in predominately Muslim Turkey. The murder of a priest in February shows that the situation has become precarious -- both for Catholics and for Turkey's EU bid.
Father Pierre Brunissen is deeply immersed in thought as he bumps along in the night bus along the Black Sea coast from Samsun to Trabzon in northern Turkey. There is, on this trip, little for the priest to be happy about. He is hurrying to a Christian congregation in Trabzon -- a city of 250,000 Muslims -- which boasts barely a dozen members. And he is needed because the former priest in Trabzon, Father Andrea Santoro, was murdered in his church.
It's a church which is now casting about for a caretaker. In the vicarage, which gives off a distinct air of neglect, a small plastic tree left over from Christmas gathers dust in the visiting room. Because no one volunteered to replace the murdered priest, the 75-year-old Father Pierre was instructed to travel the 250 kilometers by bus from Samsun to Trabzon once a month to look after things in the city's tiny congregation.
The Catholic Santa Maria Church was founded by Capuchin monks 150 years ago. Santoro had the church restored, and now colorful ornaments and images of the saints once again grace the building's walls and ceilings. But in early February, Santoro was shot dead by two gunshots while he was praying in the last pew of the church. The first shot penetrated his lung and the second went straight to his heart. In the dark wood of the pew, a splintered mark made by one of the bullets can still be seen. On this day, Father Pierre will celebrate the first mass in the church since Santoro's murder, but the church bells remain silent -- there is nobody there to ring them.

Trebizond was once a thriving Christian center. Read it all.

Soccer-Ahmadinejad:Iran suicide bombers ‘ready to hit Britain’

Note that Dr. Hassan Abbasi is not some nut raving on the streetcorner. He is an Iranian government official. This is now the third country whose demise Iran apparently has on its agenda. And the UN has done less than nothing. 1938 Alert from the TimesOnline, with thanks to JE:
IRAN has formed battalions of suicide bombers to strike at British and American targets if the nation’s nuclear sites are attacked. According to Iranian officials, 40,000 trained suicide bombers are ready for action.
The main force, named the Special Unit of Martyr Seekers in the Revolutionary Guards, was first seen last month when members marched in a military parade, dressed in olive-green uniforms with explosive packs around their waists and detonators held high.
Dr Hassan Abbasi, head of the Centre for Doctrinal Strategic Studies in the Revolutionary Guards, said in a speech that 29 western targets had been identified: “We are ready to attack American and British sensitive points if they attack Iran’s nuclear facilities.” He added that some of them were “quite close” to the Iranian border in Iraq.
In a tape recording heard by The Sunday Times, Abbasi warned the would-be martyrs to “pay close attention to wily England” and vowed that “Britain’s demise is on our agenda”.

Soccer-Ahmadinejad:Iran becomes UN disarmament leader

Anne Bayefsky writes, "On April 10th the UN Disarmament Commission elected Iran as one of its three Vice-Chairpersons. Afterwards, the UN's Under Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs, Nobuaki Tanaka, said the Commission "played a unique role" with "the advantage of being a fully universal deliberative body."" And from IsraelNationalNews, "Iran Threatens to Destroy Israel, Elected to UN Commission," with thanks to RB.
Iran's leaders have reiterated their call for Israel's annihilation, announcing the advancement of the Iranian nuclear program, and winning a seat on the United Nations' Disarmament Commission.
Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reiterated Iran's goal of "wiping Israel off the map." Speaking at a conference of visiting heads of Arab terrorist groups operating in areas under Palestinian Authority control, Ahmadinejad said, "Whether you like it or not, the Zionist regime is on the road to being eliminated."
Once again expressing his doubt as to whether the Holocaust happened, Ahmadinejad said that, although the Holocaust’s occurrence is "open to doubt, there is no doubt about the holocaust being carried out [by Israel] against the Palestinians." He went on to call upon Israelis to return to the countries from which their ancestors emigrated. "I tell the governments who support Zionism to allow the migrants [to] return to their countries of origin. If you think you owe them something [because of the Holocaust], give them some of your land," he said. "The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm."
Ahmadinejad announced last Tuesday that Iran had successfully enriched uranium in order to produce nuclear fuel, in violation of a call by the UN Security Council for Iran to end the project.
The day before, the UN's Disarmament Commission elected Iran's Mehdi Danesh-Yazdi as one of its three vice-chairs. "The continued existence of thousands of nuclear warheads in the stockpiles of the nuclear-weapon States, which could destroy the entire globe many times over, and the increasing resort to the threat of their possible use, are the major sources of concern with regard to global peace and security," Danesh-Yazdi said, adding that Israel was required to place all of its "clandestine nuclear facilities" under UN nuclear watchdog supervision.
Jordan's representative added that Israel's refusal to renounce nuclear weapons is a major source of tensions in the Middle East...

Iran Will Destroy Israel, Unless We Act

EU Will Make Islamic Terrorism Disappear

Last Tuesday we noted that the European Union is preparing to make Islamic terrorism vanish.
No, not the actual thing, but the words “Islamic terrorism.” To avoid enraging Muslims, of course.
Here’s a piece at Turkey’s Zaman Online, whose author is quite pleased with the EU’s willingness to blind itself to reality:
EU Removes ‘Islamic Terrorism’ from its Dictionary. (Hat tip: W-lover.)
The European Union (EU) also admitted that the concept of “Islamic terrorism” is misused by racist groups in Europe and terror networks such as al-Qaeda.
The Union, taking action to rid such expressions, which are offensive to Muslims, from its dictionary, searches for new concepts behind closed doors. The European bloc is expected to release its new dictionary in June. ...
Many experts believe that the words “Islam” and “terrorism” must not be used together, and concluded that the use of such expressions “alienates” Muslims in Europe.
As a result of long consultations with academic experts, the EU will review expressions such as “Islamic terrorism,” “Islamist terrorism,” “fundamentalist,” and “jihadi.”
EU counter-terrorism chief Gijs de Vries, told Reuters, terrorism does not exist in the essence of any religion and praised Muslims struggling against those conducting terrorism in the name of religion.
Professor Rik Coolsaet, one of several authorities serving as an adviser to the EU, in the statement he made to Zaman, emphasized that Brussels realized such words can be used as “political weapons.”
Instead of expressions like “Islamic terrorism” and “Islamofascist,” a phrase the United States insistently uses, Brussels is trying to develop new concepts that will not cause offense to Muslims.
And the unelected bureaucrats and myopic wacademics of the European Union really turn their noses up at the word “Islamofascism.”
Europeans have to formulate a particular method, dissimilar to that of the United States, for dealing with religion-based terrorism, said Rik Coolsaet, a professor of political sciences at Gent, and head officer of the Royal Institute of Belgium. The term “Islamic terrorism” has for years provoked objections from Coolsaet, whom the European Union conferred with over the upcoming edition of the dictionary.
“We have to care for the kind of people living here together with us, most of who have already worked very hard for citizenship from a European country. We should, therefore, desist from helping the right-wing extremists.”
The European outlook on Islamic terrorism, unlike the United States, does not view it as a problem brought in from overseas, said Coolsaet, who also spoke out against a reference from George W. Bush, President of States, to Islamofascism.
“That is a silly expression. Fascism is ironically a gift from Western Europe to the rest of the world. Islam, on the other hand, is a religion like any other religion, and cannot by any means be associated with fascism. The expression in question is invented with the intent of bolstering their assumptions and for use by neo-conservatives in the United States. This term is also in danger of being abused by such terrorist organizations as al-Qaeda.
UPDATE at 4/15/06 9:26:30 am:
The EU’s next step after making these offensive words vanish will be to criminalize their use as “hate speech.”

Germany: Teenager killed his sister for living a Western life

More on the Hatan Surucu murder from TimesOnline:
AYHAN SURUCU was so angry when his sister started to wear make-up and date German men that he put a gun to her head at a bus stop and killed her.
The 18-year-old Turk fired three bullets into her brain and calmly walked away.
Boys at a nearby school, attended mainly by the children of immigrant Muslim families, cheered and applauded when news of the murder reached them...
Passing judgment, Michael Degrif said: “It is inconceivable that someone can be killed for living a Western lifestyle.”
Although she was brought up in Germany, Hatun was forced into a marriage with her Turkish cousin in east Anatolia. The marriage broke up and she returned to Berlin with her five-year-old child to live the life of a young German woman: going to discos, renting a small apartment, taking lovers and starting an apprenticeship as an electrician. She abandoned the traditional headscarf and wore fashionable jeans. Her three brothers were upset, as was her father...
There are 40 “honour killings” a year in Germany and most of them result from the failure of an arranged marriage, which are illegal in the country.

Soccer-Ahmadinejad: Israel Will Soon Be Eliminated by One Storm

Soccer- Rikowski
Western media seem to be deliberately ignoring the most incendiary parts of the raving statements from Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad—like this one, reported by the Jerusalem Post: Ahmadinejad: Israel will soon be eliminated by one storm.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad representatives met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Hizbullah members in Teheran on Friday in a conference aimed at raising funds for the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority.
Opening the conference, Ahmadinejad fired a series of verbal shots at Israel, saying it was a “permanent threat” to the Middle East that will “soon” be liberated, and questioning the validity of the Nazi Holocaust against Jews in World War II.
“Like it or not, the Zionist regime is heading toward annihiliation,” Ahmadinejad said. “The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm,” he said.

Here’s a little bit more of what Ahmadinejad said today: Iran’s leaders launch vitriolic assault on Israel, US.
“The Zionist regime is an injustice and by its very nature a permanent threat,” firebrand President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told the gathering of regime officials, visiting Palestinian militant leaders and foreign sympathizers.
“Whether you like it or not, the Zionist regime is on the road to being eliminated,” said Ahmadinejad, whose regime does not recognize Israel and who drew international condemnation last year when he said Israel should be “wiped off the map.” ...
“If there is serious doubt over the Holocaust, there is no doubt over the catastrophe and Holocaust being faced by the Palestinians,” said the president, who had previously dismissed as a “myth” the killing of an estimated six million Jews by the Nazis and their allies during World War II.
“I tell the governments who support Zionism to ... let the migrants (Jews) return to their countries of origin. If you think you owe them something, give them some of your land,” he said.

Asia Minor and Why I fight

(Photo) Turkish Anti-Semites
Pim's Ghost at the excellent blog What Would Charles Martel Do? has a haunting piece on what happened to the Christians-Greeks, Armenians and others-at the hands of the Turks..and an account of the Turkish slaughter of Armenians and Greeks in Smyrna in 1922..while the West stood by and watched. This issue resonates today, as Pim's Ghost relates this to the prosecution in Belgium of an Aramaic Priest who fled Asia Minor to Belgium for the crime of "incitement of racial hatred".As the Ghost writes, `If the same observers so quick to prosecute Priests such as Father Samuel were really in the mosques of Europe or at the cartoonifada protests and felt like applying their laws equally, then Muslims throughout Europe would be being prosecuted instead of people like Father Samuel and Orianna Fallaci who are simply warning people and not advocating mass murder.'I suppose that since very early on in my life I knew that there was fear associated with the word "Turk". One of the few memories I have of my Grandfather is of him showing me his turquoise colored prayer beads on an old leather band and saying something about Turks. I think that he was telling me about our family and how we came from what is called Turkey and that something had happened with the Turks. What I mainly remember is thinking that I was perhaps Turkish and being corrected adamantly on that point. As with many childhood memories, this one remains vague. But I always knew that somehow the Turks figured into family history in a very bad way. As I got older, I still knew little about being half-Greek, but I did learn that it was de rigeur for Greeks to hate Turks, and just assumed that that was all that was behind my Dad's occasional comments regarding Turks or his outrage when Newt Gingrich claimed that Kemal Ataturk was a hero of his. I never imagined what I would come to discover, both about my family and about all of the Christians of Asia Minor.Read the rest: What Would Charles Martel Do?: Asia Minor and Why I Fight

Germany: 'Honour killing' brother jailed

Berlin Mosque
Only nine years and three months? For murder? Hatun Surucu Update. "'Honour killing' brother jailed," from the BBC, with thanks to JE:
A 19-year-old Turkish man has been jailed for nine years and three months by a German court for shooting his sister in a so-called "honour killing".
Ayhan Surucu had confessed to shooting his sister Hatun Surucu, 23, at a bus stop in a Berlin suburb last year.
Two other brothers were cleared of charges of conspiring to murder her.
Prosecutors said the brothers felt dishonoured by their sister, who lived on her own with her son after leaving a cousin she had been forced to marry.
The death of the 23-year-old shocked Germany and led to street protests by Turkish women.
The Berlin court's presiding judge Michael Degreif said Hatun Surucu was killed "because she lived her life as she saw fit" and had adopted Western ideas of sexual equality, the AFP news agency reports.
