Muslim checkout staff get an alcohol opt-out clause

Muslim supermarket checkout staff who refuse to sell alcohol are being allowed to opt out of handling customers’ bottles and cans of drink.
Islamic workers at Sainsbury’s who object to alcohol on religious grounds are told to raise their hands when encountering any drink at their till so that a colleague can temporarily take their place or scan items
for them.

Putin: Disregarding the Principle of Territorial Integrity Would be Highly Irresponsible

After the meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Zapatero, President Vladimir Putin spoke about Russia’s position on the future of southern Serbian province of Kosovo at a media briefing in Sochi.
“Regarding Kosovo, the position of the Russian Federation has not changed recently. We stand for the earliest possible start of a direct dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. We don’t consider it sensible to limit future negotiations and put them in a Procrustean bed of a time schedule. We think it should be a free dialogue, the aim of which should be a search for an acceptable compromise for both sides. We will maintain contact with all the participants of the process, in the first place at the UN. We will also be in constant contact with both the European Union and the United States,” Putin said.
Head of the Russian state invited the international community to “refrain from undermining the principle of territorial integrity of the states,” noting that such approach would be “highly irresponsible.”
“The principle of territorial integrity defended by Russia in the Kosovo situation concerns many states, and we think that it would be highly irresponsible to disregard this principle,” he said.

Premier Kostunica: Sustainable Solution Can be Only a Democratic One

Just before the latest unsightly exhibit of Serbian intransigence that was, thankfully, dealt with according to the NATO/KLA democratic standards, Prime Minister Kostunica invited all three parties in the negotiations — Serbia, the international community and Pristina — to commit to supporting only the solution that is agreed upon during the negotiating process.
“It is equally important that each party undertakes the responsibility for rejecting the unilateral moves, since that would clearly demonstrate the policy of force and imposition of the legal violence,” said Kostunica, adding that “as long as there is the slightest possibility that one side, in this case the Albanian, chooses to act unilaterally, the likelihood of reaching an agreement is practically non-existent,” he said.
“Today’s talks represent the unique opportunity for us to agree that the solution for the future organization of the province can be only democratic. The democratic solution automatically excludes threats and every form of legal violence, including the violation of the Resolution 1244 and the UN Charter,” Serbian Premier said.

Albanians Masquerading as Yugoslav Soldiers Committed War Crimes in Kosovo Province

Geza Farkas, former chief of VJ (Vojska Jugoslavije — Yugoslav Army) Security Administration, testifying at the Kangaroo Court in the defense of the former chief of General Staff, General Dragoljub Ojdanic accused of responsibility for war crimes Yugoslav Army allegedly committed in Kosovo-Metohija province during the 1998-1999 Albanian insurgency war, said that the Yugoslav military leadership “did all it could to prevent the crimes in Kosovo and punish the perpetrators as soon as it learned about them.”
Mr. Farkas also revealed that a number of war crimes in Kosovo province during the war were committed by the Albanians wearing VJ uniforms who had been infiltrated into southern Serbian province of Kosovo from the neighboring Albania.

Chelsea Clinton Rightly Embarrassed by Her Parents’ Best Friends

CBS reports that former first daughter Chelsea Clinton demanded that her photo be taken down from the window of a Greenwich Village pizzeria owned by Albanian Nino Selimaj. According to the report “she’s so serious she has recruited her father, former President Bill Clinton, and a team lawyers to see that it’s done.”
So, Albanian best friend Billary Clinton engaged his lawyer demanding Selimaj takes the picture down. To make sure the point gets accross, the official William Jefferson Clinton letterhead also contains a threat to take further action: “We reserve the right to exercise any and all options available to us if you refuse to comply.”
In a typically-shifty Albanian manner of serving five different stories under the same breath — from tearjerkers to threats of their own — hoping at least one strikes the right cord, Selimaj first said he simply loved Chelsea like his own daughter and was “heartbroken” by her request, but will remove the photograph if she “insists”. He then admitted he was a bit more practical after all, saying that having Chelsea’s photo in the window of his pizzeria is “good for business.” Then he said he will not remove Chelsea’s photo “unless forced” and, finally, that Hillary Clinton “has lost his vote.” But the picture of her daughter stays, at least for now.

Dangerous Delusions and Warmongering

Ahead of his departure for New York on Tuesday, Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said that part of the so-called international community which thinks it is possible to impose Kosovo-Metohija independence on Serbia is dangerously delusional.
“The misconception by one part of the international community that it is possible to impose the solution on Serbia and that Serbia will eventually recognize an independent state of Kosovo in its territory, which would be contrary to the UN Charter and to the Serbian Constitution, is dangerous,” Kostunica told Tanjug ahead of his Wednesday departure for New York, where the Belgrade delegation and Albanian Pristina secessionists will meet for the first time in this phase of negotiations on September 28.

Bill Clinton Kosovo Boulevard Blasted to Smithereens

An explosion killed two people and injured 12 when it tore through shops early on Monday in Pristina, officials say. The blast ripped through southern Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija at 2:10 a.m., scattering glass and debris from a dozen shops on Pristina’s Bill Clinton Boulevard. According to Reuters, one of the buildings collapsed.
The Albanian policeman told AFP that “The blast occurred in the business area in which some coffee shops and restaurants were still working.”
One person was immediately killed, while another died of injuries in a hospital. The other 12 people injured in a blast, three of them in critical condition, are being treated in hospital.
As is the most common case with the all-to-often violent outbursts in Kosovo-Metohija since UN/NATO took over the Serbian province’s administration and security, everything is kept in strict confidence, hidden behind the heavy wall of silence — no one knows what happened or why, who are the perpetrators (who are never found or arrested anyway), Albanians and UN police are apparently even dumbfounded as to “what has caused the explosion”.
Was it a meteor from the outer space? A faulty, self-incinerating plaster on the buildings? Could it have been a bomb? Dare we say that?
We do, since Belgrade news agencies reported that an Irish bomb disposal experts from KFOR were on the scene and police closed the street.
As to the motive, terrorism is not being ruled out, but officials in Kosovo-Metohija have suggested the deadly attack is probably “related to crime.” Organized crime, or Albanian mafia, since according to the (German) DPA report, Enver Sekiraqa, one of Kosovo Albanian mafia bosses, owned a café and several other businesses in the shopping center that suffered most damage in the blast. Over the past month Sekiraqa has been unavailable to the police who named him as an accomplice in the murder of police officer Triumf Riza that had taken place on August 30 in Pristina.
According to BIRN, after Riza’s murder police arrested at least four persons in Sekiraqa’s café, which was closed down and put under surveillance. But they stopped watching the place two days ago.

Kostunica: Widest Autonomy, But No Breaking Up the State

Direct negotiations on the future status of Kosovo-Metohija are the only way for finding a sustainable solution, Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica has said, voicing his belief that the full strength of Serbian arguments will be shown at the meeting between Belgrade and Pristina delegations in New York.
“Our proposal envisions a very wide autonomy for Kosovo institutions, and its only limitation is not to violate the country’s territorial integrity. We offer the Albanian national minority to decide about their own fate in all issues, but we will not let the essence of the state — its integrity and sovereignty — be violated,” Kostunica said Friday, in an interview for the Saturday issue of the Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti.
In case Kosovo Albanian separatists declare independence unilaterally, Serbia should respond, Kostunica said.
According to Tanjug, this response will be “primarily for NATO, which is the main participant without whom such a development would not take place.”

U.S. State Department Shift: Kosovo Negotiations to Continue

The Kosovo talks will likely continue after December 10, a ranking State Department official said in Brussels this week, according to the Brussels-based electronic daily EU Observer.
“Whether we will have a solution on December 10 or whether the solution will follow soon after that — I think more likely the latter, it must be emphasized that this process cannot go on forever,” David J. Kramer, the U.S. deputy assistant secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs told journalists in Brussels on Wednesday.
“We have to be realistic”, said Kramer, specifying that a solution by December 10, when the mediating Troika is to submit a progress report to the UN Secretary General, “would imply that Russia had changed its position on this issue.”
“At the moment we haven’t seen a shift” from Moscow’s side, the Brussels daily said, quoting Kramer.
Quoting Kramer, EU Observer said that “Moscow fears” that a unilateral proclamation of independence by Kosovo would trigger a chain reaction in other parts of the world, but the State Dept. official insisted that this is not the case and that southern Serbian province is one off, in accordance with the position publicly taken by the U.S. State Department as a whole.

Western Mainstream Media Changes Tune

September 20 article by Reuters’ Ellie Tzortzi represents a fresh approach by one of the pillars of Western mainstream media to the problem of Serbian province of Kosovo-Metohija, which Western news agencies and mainstream media in general have thus far treated with militant anti-Serbian bias, coupled with appalling ignorance or outright lies.
For the first time in the past decade or so, Reuters actually allows a sincere insight into the Serbian position, without the obligatory condemnation and negative frame, without the cynicism and mockery, and without the reporter tearing the Serbian official’s views down before they have a chance to land on the page.
The article is built around the interview with Seriba’s Kosovo Metohija Minister Slobodan Samardzic, who explained Belgrade is doing its best to approach the issue realistically and pragmatically:
“They [Albanian separatists in Kosovo province] are looking for independence. They cannot get it as far as Serbia is concerned. So we must find a middle ground,” Samardzic said.
“The European experience is to resolve these issues through compromise solutions which are all different, like South Tyrol and the Basque country,” he told Reuters, adding that Serbia proposes “the highest level of autonomy on offer anywhere in Europe, maybe even in the world,” and not seeking an “absolute victory.”
Reuters reporter spoke to Minister Samardzic after he visited London to set out the proposal for the troika of Russian, United States and European Union Kosovo mediators. According to the report, Belgrade offers Albanians in southern Serbian province “loose integration for 10-20 years,” in the form of substantial autonomy.

Attempts to Intimidate and Chase Serbian Humanitarian Out of Kosovo Province

Tanjug reports that early on Thursday, “unidentified perpetrators” fired shots at the house of Zoran Maksimovic, director of the humanitarian organization Decija Radost (Children’s Joy), situated in the ethnically mixed village of Gornji Livoc, Kosovo-Metohija Municipality of Gnjilane.
The attack occurred around 2 a.m., Maksimovic said in a statement for Tanjug. No one was injured, even though his mother, brother, sister-in-law and two children were in the house with him at the time, he said, adding that this is not the first attack on him or on his family.
He was fired at earlier while in his car and, in a separate incident, “unknown perpetrators” killed his dog.
Maksimovic is also a coordinator in the humanitarian organization Our Serbia which takes care of more than 1,000 war orphans.

Independence for Kosovo is Off the Agenda, Envoy Reveals

Independence for Kosovo is Off the Agenda, Envoy Reveals
By Anne Penketh, Diplomatic Editor, The Independent
The international community is backing away from a clear endorsement of independence for Kosovo. According to the top European negotiator, Kosovo is no longer being offered internationally-supervised independence from Serbia, in an apparent concession to Belgrade and Moscow that is likely to infuriate the disputed province’s ethnic Albanian majority.
The envoy, Wolfgang Ischinger, who is the German ambassador to the UK and will be involved in separate talks in London today and tomorrow with a Serbian and a Kosovo delegation, said that it was time to get away from labels in order to achieve a realistic solution for Kosovo which has been administered by the UN for the past eight years since Nato’s bombing campaign forced Serbia’s withdrawal from the province in 1999. The Kosovo delegation, whose leaders are threatening to unilaterally declare independence, wants the London talks to focus on “technical issues between two independent states,” the Kosovo Prime Minister, Agim Ceku, said yesterday before leaving Pristina.
But Mr Ischinger said: “The label is worth nothing. Where are they going to get their income from? They would continue to rely on foreign aid.”
Asked whether the ultimate outcome of the latest negotiations could be internationally-supervised independence, Mr Ischinger replied: “I would say that we will try to reach a status solution which will provide for an internationally-supervised status for Kosovo. I would leave open independence. I would rather talk about a strong supervised status.”

Bosnian Mujahedins: “We Are Terrorists!”

According to the RTS and Tanjug news agency, a Bosnian TV station has broadcast part of a new tape showing the activities of a mujahedin unit during the Bosnian war. The tape shows some of the crimes committed by the unit against Bosnian Serbs during the 1992-1995 war in central Bosnia.
The footage shows mujahedin sharpening axes which they later used to behead a Serb soldier, and a speech is also recorded of a jihadist saying, “They call us terrorists. We are terrorists and we will destroy all the enemies of Allah.”
In addition to the hair-raising scenes of corpses and mutilation, there are also pictures of living prisoners of war that the mujahedin had tied up and tortured, Tanjug described the scenes broadcast on Bijeljina’s BN TV.
There is also footage of the Bosnia mujahedins playing football using, instead of a ball, a decapitated head.

Whoever Dares to Say NATO is Inhumane?!

British Independent reports that eight years after the three-month bombardment, NATO has finally assented to tell the Serbian government where they dropped thousands of cluster bombs, with at least 20,000 of them believed to be unexploded.
The actual numbers that are not mentioned by the Independent are indeed much higher, since it is known that NATO has dropped at least 3,500 cluster bombs on the town of Gracanica alone and it is estimated that the bombs have a failure rate of anywhere from 5 to 30 per cent, while the Independent’s report, naturally, sticks to the most conservative, hygienic 5 per cent rate only, citing merely 2,000 cluster bombs total dropped on whole state in three months.
The United States, Britain and Holland, the primary death-contributors to the “Merciful Angel” humanitarian bombardment of FR Yugoslavia in 1999, have dropped thousands of cluster bombs containing, according to the Independent, some 380,000 sub-munitions all over Serbia, including its southern Kosovo province towns and villages. The so-called sub-munitions are actually smaller bombs (bomblets) which burst upon the impact “over an area the size of several football pitches,” aimed exclusively at living targets.

Jihad vs. McWorld

Clash of civilizations, the illustrated version
Welcome to Eurabia: Fortress McDonalds opens in Berlin, an event well attended by riot police. No doubt the cops were there to repel trendy Euroveggie neo-fascists, but you also never know in Europe these days when the mujahedin may decide to take revenge against that ubiquitous symbol of American pop cultural hegemony.
"McDonald's Opens in Kreuzberg," by Josh Ward in Spiegel Online (thanks to Ruth King):
It looks like any of Germany's nearly 1,300 other McDonald's franchises. Colorful glossy plastic and shiny stainless steel, bright lights, smiling counter people, a playground, a grasshopper-green manicured lawn, a McCafé and a McDrive. Everything McNormal.
Take a closer look, though, and you see something strange. Hidden in a parking lot around the corner are three police paddy wagons with wire-mesh-protected windows, full of bored police officers in riot gear waiting for a smoke break. Security cameras hang in bunches on light poles like coconuts. Almost everyone outside has a long-lensed camera, video recorder or reporter's spiral notepad.

Of Course Washington Loves Ahtisaari Plan

Serbia’s Democratic Party spokesman Andreja Mladenovic said Thursday that the implementation of Annex 11 of Martti Ahtisaari plan for Kosovo and Metohija would “indeed represent the best solution for the United States.”
“The formation of the first NATO state on the basis of Ahtisaari plan is really the best solution for America,” Mladenovic told Tanjug in reaction to a statement by the new US amabssador to Serbia, Cameron Phelps Munter. Speaking in Kostolac on Thursday, Munter reiterated the official US stand that, unless progress in the talks on the status of Kosmet is made by Dec 10, supervised independence for that province is the best solution, as he said, “for America, Europe and Serbia.”
It sure is comforting to know Uncle Sam knows what’s best for Serbia better than Serbia does. The only snag is that Serbia seems determined to follow its own hunches.

David Letterman: “Top Signs Your Neighbor is Hiding Osama bin Laden”: He’s turned backyard jungle gym into Taliban training camp; You call over there and someone answers, “Death to America... I mean, Yello”; There’s a large “No Infidels” sign on the front porch; In latest video, behind Osama is you mowing the lawn; Neighborhood suddenly reeks of figs and sheep; Got invited to summer block party—this years theme: “Sun, Fun and Jihad”; Mailbox now reads, “Rutherford/bin Laden”; Car in the driveway has a hilarious “Martyrdom or Bust” bumper sticker.

Jay Leno: In his latest video, Osama bin Laden urges all Americans to reject democracy and convert to Islam. Well, I can see that happening! Is this guy living in a cave? ... No, bin Laden said he wants Americans to convert to Islam because there are no taxes in his world. Which is true. There’s also no music, no ice, no books... And from the looks of bin Laden, no toothpaste or deodorant either. ... Newsweek has a big cover story on Fred Thompson’s presidential campaign. You learn a lot about him. For example, he used to work at NBC, so apparently he knows how to deal with disasters. ... In Idaho, restroom enthusiast Senator Larry Craig, he said he will resign. He said he enjoyed being in Washington and he’ll miss his colleagues on both sides of the stall. First he’s going to resign, now he’s not going. Why can’t the guy just be straight with us? Even John Kerry’s going, “make up your mind.” ... And here’s a joke that pretty much writes itself. Former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey—remember he resigned from office because he had a gay affair—now he’s enrolled in a seminary school to become a priest. (You may fill in your own joke.) A former married governor who was having anonymous gay sex at truck stops now wants to become a member of the clergy. Well what could go wrong there?

Albanian KLA/UCK Commanders Responsible for the Tide of Kosovo Refugees During NATO Bombardment

In her latest blog entry, Julia Gorin recovers an all but forgotten, crucial piece of information way back from November 1999 (after NATO finished reducing Serbia to rubble and has occupied its southern Kosovo province).
Report by Max Sinclair, published by the Columbia University, ripped to shreds the favorite MSM “ethnic cleansing by Milosevic’s forces” myth, showing it was the terrorist Albanian KLA/UCK that was orchestrating and conducting the campaign of expelling Albanians from the province during NATO aggression on FR Yugoslavia, in order to feign a “humanitarian catastrophe,” justifying Western aggression on Serbs — the fact Cedomir Prlincevic, head of the Jewish community in pre-war Pristina (while there was a Jewish community in Kosovo), personally witnessed and experienced during the Kosovo war.
According to Columbia University report, Albanian Muslim “general” Rustem Mustafa, lovingly referred to as “Commander Remi” by his fellow-terrorists and war criminals, who was later appointed by Bernard Kouchner (the first UNMIK chief in Serbian province and the current Minister of Foreign and European Affairs in Sarkozy’s France) and American General Wesley Clark (former NATO Commander) to be the deputy commander of the Kosovo “Protection” Farce, uh, Force, was one of the main figures conducting the ethnic cleansing of his own people and producing the tide of Albanian refugees, staging a major propaganda coup for KLA-allied US-led NATO.

UN Secretary General’s Bias Unacceptable

Russia opposes UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s support for the plan by the Finn Martti Ahtisaari, in accordance with the basic role of the United Nations, which is not to impose solutions, including the solution for the future Kosovo-Metohija status, Russian Foreign Ministry’s international organizations department chief Alexander Konuzin said on Wednesday.
Russia does not welcome the fact that Ban Ki-moon has backed the Ahtisaari plan on Kosovo, which is aimed at imposing a resolution unacceptable to a UN member state — Serbia, Konuzin said, adding that the United Nations is expected to take into consideration the opinions of all member states, particularly when it comes to thorny international issues.
“We do not subscribe to the view that the UN’s role should be to impose a resolution,” Konuzin said, and added that the secretary general was aware of the fact that two out of five permanent UN Security Council member states [Russia and China] did not accept Ahtisaari’s proposal.
“Russia conveyed its standpoint to the UN secretary general and we are waiting for a response,” the Russian diplomat said, according to the Itar-Tass news agency report.

Botsan-Kharchenko: U.S. State Department is Destroying Negotiating Process

Russian Representative to the Contact Group’s negotiating troika for Kosovo-Metohija province Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko has criticized the messages from the U.S. State Department that the United States of America will unilaterally recognize independence of Serbian province, characterizing them as devastating to the negotiating process.
“I absolutely do not support such a stand and such messages from the United States. I did not expect that from the United States of America at the moment when the talks are resuming,” Botsan-Kharchenko said in an interview published by Vecernje Novosti on Wednesday.
When asked whether he has an impression that USA is undermining the negotiating process, Botsan-Kharchenko said that independence of Kosovo and Metohija certainly is not a compromise between Belgrade and Pristina but only Pristina separatists’ wish, which Belgrade is clearly opposed to.
“That is why the U.S. announcement that it will recognize independence unilaterally is not the message that will support the negotiating process, but do exactly the opposite,” said Botsan-Kharchenko.

Council of Europe: Europe is threatened by bigots, not by Islam

Terry Davis says that "the fact is that Europe and its values are indeed under threat, but the danger is not coming from Islam. Our common European values are undermined by bigots and radicals, both islamists and islamophobes, who exploit fears and prejudice for their own political objectives."
Moral equivalence of the first water. "Islamophobes" are not flying planes into buildings. They are not predicting their conquest of Europe. They are not physically attacking people who do not conform to their code of conduct.
"Islamophobia"? Stop blowing things up in the name of Islam, and it will disappear. That Terry Davis would ignore all this and equate these two is unconscionable.
"Europe is threatened by bigots - not by Islam," from the
Council of Europe (thanks to all who sent this in):
Statement by Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, on the march “Against the Islamisation of Europe” today in Brussels
Strasbourg, 11.09.2007 - European values are under threat, say the organisers of a protest march under the banner “Against the Islamisation of Europe” which was due to place today in Brussels in spite of the ban by the city Mayor. The fact is that Europe and its values are indeed under threat, but the danger is not coming from Islam. Our common European values are undermined by bigots and radicals, both islamists and islamophobes, who exploit fears and prejudice for their own political objectives.
The self-proclaimed defenders of European values say that the Mayor has violated their rights under the European Convention on Human Rights. The freedom of assembly and the freedom of expression are indeed essential preconditions for democracy, but they should not be regarded as a licence to offend. I will not enter into the discussion about whether the march should have been allowed or not, but I note that the protesters’ reading of the Convention is selective to say the least. It is very important to remember that the freedom of assembly and expression can be restricted to protect the rights and freedoms of others, including the freedom of thought, conscience and religion. This applies to everyone in Europe including the millions of Europeans of Islamic faith, who were the main target of today’s shameful display of bigotry and intolerance. "...the freedom of assembly and expression can be restricted to protect the rights and freedoms of others, including the freedom of thought, conscience and religion."
Noted: freedom of assembly and expression are on the ropes in Europe. It will be ironic when those whose freedom of thought, conscience and religion Terry Davis is intent on protecting begin to restrict his own freedom of thought, conscience and religion, and that of his friends.

Threats of Unilateral Moves Endanger Both Serbia and Essential Precepts of International Law

Serbian Premier Vojislav Kostunica told reporters in Brussels Wednesday, after meeting with European Parliament President Hans-Gert Pöttering that Serbia poses no threat to anyone. Instead, it is Serbia that is being threatened by some international political factors who have announced they would unilaterally recognize declaration of Kosovo-Metohija’s independence.
“Serbia is exposed to many threats of unilateral recognition of the province’s independence, such as statements that if Kosovo does not become independent, Albanians will be displeased and take to arms,” said Kostunica, noting that those are threats issued directly to Serbian state, but they are also directed at the essential precepts of international law.

Serbia Rejects Any Possibility of Kosovo-Metohija Partition

Director of the Serbian government’s Office of Media Relations Milivoje Mihajlovic said Tuesday that the propaganda balloon floated by the separatist Albanian and Serbophobic British press that Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica intends to present a secret proposal for partition of southern Serbian province is not only false, but “completely devoid of sense.”
In a statement for Avala TV, Mihajlovic said that this is an attempt, like countless previous attempts, that the wish of Kosovo Albanian separatists to divide Kosovo-Metohija be attributed to Serbia.
According to Mihajlovic, the Serbian government has a clear stand and wishes to find a solution based on compromise in accordance with international law through direct negotiations, without conditions and deadlines in the negotiation process.
“The Serbian government has not considered, is not considering and does not accept the possibility of partition of Kosovo-Metohija,” stressed Mihajlovic.

Jihad group in Germany claims credit for foiled inner spiritual struggle

"The attacks planned according to this for the end of 2007 were directed against the U.S. air base at Ramstein as well as U.S. and Uzbek consular facilities in Germany."
"Germany: Islamic militants designated as terror group claim responsibility for foiled attacks," from
The Associated Press (thanks to all who sent this in):
BERLIN: An Islamic militant group has claimed responsibility for a foiled bomb plot that targeted the American military facility at Ramstein and sought to force the closure of an air base that supports Germany's mission in Afghanistan, the German government said Tuesday.
The Interior Ministry, which is responsible for police and internal security, said the Internet announcement by the Islamic Jihad Union was being treated as genuine by government security experts. Three men were arrested Sept. 4 on suspicion of planning massive bombings against U.S. and other facilities in Germany.
The ministry said the attacks were aimed at pressing Germany to close its air base in Termez, Uzbekistan. The base near the Uzbek-Afghan border provides logistical support for the roughly 3,000 German troops serving as part of NATO'S international security force in Afghanistan.
"In an Internet appearance, the Islamic Jihad Union has taken responsibility for the foiled attacks in Germany and addresses the arrests of Sept. 4, 2007," the ministry statement said. "The attacks planned according to this for the end of 2007 were directed against the U.S. air base at Ramstein as well as U.S. and Uzbek consular facilities in Germany."
German officials had previously said the bombings targeted bars and discotheques frequented by Americans as well as airports, but that they were not sure of the exact targets.

Croats Lie — B92, Reuters Take the Ball and Run With It

This is the second time in the past six months that a tiny insignificant Balkan paper floated a cheap propaganda balloon and both Soros’ B92 and Reuters, like they are hanging off the same string, grabbed it and ran with it, giving the lie enough hot air to keep it afloat for as long as possible.
When Croat paper launched a tall tale about Russia trading Serbian Kosovo province in the UN Security Council for a sack of flower, or something as immense, at the end of May, in the midst of the greatest pressure Washington and London were exerting on Russians to give up their stand and allow the thuggery to be ratified by the UN, one could have been excused for thinking Reuters has gotten innocently hooked up on a most ridiculous story one could possibly imagine.

Police arrest leaders of protest against Islamization of Europe

How about something like this? Would that be okay to go forward? And of course, the epithet "far-right" is tossed about freely as an attempt to discredit the organizers of the parade and their message.
Meanwhile, jihadists in Belgium, the rest of Europe, and elsewhere continue to plot the overthrow -- whether by violence or legal coercion -- of secular, democratic systems. And police are sent out in force instead to stop people on the dreaded "far right" from saying something authorities find unpleasant.
"Police arrest 2 far-right Belgian leaders at anti-Islam 9/11 protest," from the
International Herald Tribune:
BRUSSELS, Belgium: Police arrested two leaders of a Belgian far-right party Tuesday for staging an illegal protest against the "Islamization of Europe," six years to the day after the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.
Police scuffled with some of the 200 people who converged on two squares in the EU district of Brussels to protest against what they perceived as the rise of Islam as a significant political force across Europe. Officers handcuffed two leaders of the far-right Flemish Interest Party, which is very critical of Muslim immigrants, and took them away in police vans.
Protesters sought to use the Sept. 11 anniversary to point out that Islam threatens democracy and the rule of law in Europe.
The demonstration was initially planned by Stop Islamization of Europe, a loose alliance with roots in Germany, Britain and Denmark, which had predicted that 20,000 people would come to Brussels from all over Europe.
Brussels Mayor Freddy Thielemans banned the protest last month, calling SIOE an inflammatory group and its proposed demonstration a threat to public order. An appeals court upheld the ban Aug. 29.
Only 200 or so protesters showed up Tuesday for a protest lasting only 30 minutes. The demonstrators faced more than 100 police, backed up by water cannons and helicopters, who closed off streets around the EU headquarters.
Are they more afraid of the protest, or that certain offended members of the populace might use it as a pretext to stage an attack?
"We support the goals of the demonstration to protest against the lack of freedom of expression in this country," said Frank Vanhecke, the head of the Flemish Interest Party, before he was bundled off to the police station. "And we also we fully agree that the rise of Islam in Europe poses a risk to our values."

Germany Key EU Opponent of Unilateral Recognition

Germany is a key European Union opponent of the unilateral declaration of Kosovo’s independence, the Brussels-based daily EU Observer said in its online edition on Monday.
“Germany is at the forefront of European nations against any unilateral move,” the daily pointed out in the article dedicated to the ministerial meeting in Portugal which was held over the past weekend, adding that “one Western diplomatic source told that without having Berlin ‘backing the US and UK’s eventual move on unilateral independence, both capitals would not be ready to provoke blow ups inside the EU and risk a serious crisis with Russia’.”
According to the EU Observer, “last week top Berlin officials warned against any attempts by western countries to sidestep the UN and Russia on Kosovo independence, saying that such a risky move would harm Germany’s and the EU’s relations with Moscow.”

Response by the US Embassy in Belgrade: Peace, Love, NATO, Ahtisaari...

The US Embassy in Serbia on Monday presented to the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs a response to the Belgrade request in connection with the statement by senior US official Kurt Volker about the possibility of the unilateral recognition of Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija.
“A representative of the US Embassy in Belgrade said the statement by the American official about the possible independence and unilateral recognition of Kosovo and Metohija province was incorrectly interpreted in media,” the Serbian Foreign Ministry said.
The United States seeks to find a settlement for Kosovo’s status that promotes peace and security for all people of the Balkans and region’s integration with Euro-Atlantic institutions and is ready to accept any solution agreed on by the two sides, but negotiations are not open ended, the US Embassy in Belgrade said in a statement on Monday.
The statement, a copy of which was sent to Tanjug, said that the “US and its partners in the Contact Group are fully committed to the negotiation process. We, along with colleagues in the EU and Rušia, are working actively to engage the parties on this issue. It is in everyone’s interest that the parties take seriously this opportunity to find a common solution.”
“During this period of engagement, the United States is prepared to accept any outcome to which the parties agree. These talks are not open ended, however,” the statement said.
The statement went on to say that UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had announced that the Contact Group would inform him about the result of the process by December 10, 2007 and that after that “Kosovo’s status needs to be clarified promptly.”
“As we said with our UNSC co-sponsors in a draft resolution submitted to the UN on July 20, if this period of engagement does not produce an agreement, then we, along with many of our international partners, believe that UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari’s plan, including his recommendation of supervised independence for Kosovo, remains the best way forward,” the statement said.

U.S. State Department Blows the Last Chance for Peaceful Kosovo Solution

According to the AP report, Serbia has requested an explanation from the United States over reports that Washington is ready to recognize illegal severing of Serbian Kosovo province if Albanian separatists unilaterally declare independence, Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs said Sunday.
Vuk Jeremic confirmed for Serbian media that Belgrade requested a formal explanation from the U.S. embassy in Belgrade and expected an answer in few days.
“The American embassy is consulting with Washington at the moment and we expect to receive an explanation soon,” Jeremic said.
The reaction follows the statement of the U.S. State Department representative, Kurt Volker, who told journalists Saturday that the United States are ready to recognize independence of the southern Serbian province outside the United Nations and in contravention to the UN Security Council resolution.
AFP quoted Volker as saying “if Kosovo unilaterally declares independence, the United States will recognize that independence.”

German Terror Plot: Connected to Syria?

In the New York Times’ latest article on the German terror plot uncovered this week, they reveal that the detonators found by police came from Syria.
Mr. Beckstein said the nationality of some of the other suspects was still unclear, and two are only known by their aliases, making it impossible to know their origins or whereabouts. He declined to identify by name any of the suspects still at large but said that two other suspects were known to have spent time in Lebanon and Syria and that the detonators found in Tuesday’s raids had come from Syria.

Another Propaganda Bit by an Arch-Serbophobe, Comrade Nicholas Wood

On Wednesday and Thursday one of the most notoriously Serbophobic journalistic trolls, Nicholas Wood, was busy running from paper to paper, selling his latest piece on Da Serbs to anyone who’d run it, including The International Herald Tribune and his Agitprop Mother Ship, The New York Times. Many others have picked it up from there, for therein lies the beauty of the Western Propaganda System: once you have the big ones in your net, the small potatoes will inertly roll after, downhill.
Built around an interview with Serbian State Secretary for Kosovo-Metohija Dusan Prorokovic, this Wood’s piece too, naturally, doesn’t fail to reinforce all the common anti-Serbian propaganda themes, repeating the main memes — propagandistic keywords, a-matter-of-fact statements and false claims aimed at underscoring the basic message yet again: serbs-villains-albanians-victims.
Its chosen focus is one of couple of dozens measures Serbian state—as any state—legally has at its disposal in case of the unilateral proclamation of Kosovo independence (i.e. in case of finalizing the US/NATO/Shiptar robbery): that of a potential use of force.

Completing Kosovo Genocide

William Dorich’s response to the interview with Kosovo Albanian terrorist Albin Kurti, published by the Bulgarian Focus news agency.
Albin Kurti’s comments on Kosovo are immoral. More than 40% of the Albanians in Kosovo are illegal aliens who cross the border from Albania into Kosovo as easily as Mexicans cross our border each night in San Diego California. Granting Albanians superior rights over the 350,000 Serbian citizens whom they have successfully cleansed shows the contempt Kurti has for international law and equal human rights.
I remind this political opportunist that during the 1999 NATO bombing over 90,000 Albanians fled to Belgrade... into the arms of their Serbian enemies? The only time Albanians “will no longer treat the Serbs as a threat” is when there is not a single Serb or a single Serbian church left standing and a total Genocide has been accomplished in Kosovo.

German authorities worrying about converts to Islam misunderstanding their new religion

Behold the glorious complexity of Islam! Here is a belief-system so intricate, so nuanced, so difficult to grasp, that even those who dedicate themselves to embracing it and living by its precepts tend to misunderstand it utterly, missing its message of peace and actually coming to believe it teaches them to commit violence against unbelievers in order to bring about their subjugation! Imagine! Ibrahim Hooper of CAIR should get on the phone to German Muslim leaders right away, offering to share the techniques his group has used to such great effect to prevent converts to Islam in the U.S. from joining jihad groups.
What's that? CAIR doesn't have any such program? What are you, some kind of Islamophobe?
"German authorities watch increasing conversions to Islam with concern," from
Deutsche Presse Agentur (thanks to Jeffrey Imm):
Berlin (dpa) - The German authorities are watching the rising tide of conversion to Islam with some concern, the daily Berliner Zeitung reported Thursday.
The newspaper cited figures compiled by a Muslim group that showed that 4,000 Germans had converted last year, compared with just 1,000 in 2005.
It was common knowledge that the German authorities were monitoring converts to Islam closely, it said.
Quoting Interior Ministry officials, the newspaper said there had been a rise internationally in the number of converts involved in Islamist terrorist acts.
Among them are "shoe bomber" Richard Reid, a Briton who tried to blow up an American Airlines flight in December 2001, and Muriel Degauque, a Belgian suicide bomber who blew herself up in Iraq in November 2005.
Guido Steinberg, who researches Islamic issues, said extremists were targeting new converts, and terrorist expert Rolf Tophoven said converts tended to be fanatical....
Abdullah attributed the increase in conversions to rising Islamophobia. "Whenever Islam falls under suspicion, many people start to feel solidarity with the religion," he told the Berliner Zeitung.
Yes, that's it. People begin to criticize Muslims for allowing terrorists in their midst, and that makes non-Muslims convert to Islam and...become terrorists.

Arie Livne: Serbs Will Never Give Up

World Jewish Congress (WJC)
Special Emissary to the Yugoslav Successor States Arie Livne (86) has stated that the issue of Kosovo province is not a unique case, underscoring that granting independence to the Serbian province would be “a major injustice”.
The Albanians may make up the majority of the current population in Kosovo, but they are an ethnic minority in Serbia, Livne said in an interview published by the Banja Luka daily Press RS. Granting independence to Kosovo would constitute a major injustice and would be rather dangerous, because the Basque Country, Corsica, South Tyrol, Northern Ireland would request the same, said Mr Livne.
Arie Livne, who represents the Serbian Republic (Republika Srpska, the Serbian republic in Bosnia-Herzegovina) in Israel, believes that the Albanians should be given the rights due to an ethnic minority, but that Serbia will never give up a part of its territory and the Serbs will never accept or recognize independence of their southern Kosovo province.
He believes that the West is at war with Islam and that they want to ingratiate themselves to the Muslims and demonstrate, over the Serbian back, that they are fighting against terrorism and not against Islam.

Bitter Battle for Kosovo-Metohija — The War Serbs Will Win

Article Kosovo and Metohia: The Struggle will Get Fiercer by General Leonid Ivashov, the vice-president of the Academy on geopolitical affairs.
Despite its territorial locality, the Kosovo problem continues to be in the focus of attention of international community, affecting the character of interaction of the United States, Russia and Europe and threatening to provoke a serious aggravation of the Russian-U.S. relations.
What is the most profound reason of this battle that promises the emergence of new dividing lines in the European and global politics?
Had something of the kind happen somewhere in Africa, everyone would have long forgotten all about it, whereas the Kosovo problem has come to the fore, and keeps exciting the whole world. My explanation is that what is being modeled in Kosovo and Metohia in the most critical form are the models of the mankind’s development, where the interests of different civilizations clash and where strategies of the action of different power centers are taking shape. The main players on the Kosovo field include the international financial capital that is using the United States as its high-power battering-ram, Europe that is now under the U.S. control, NATO as a military arm of the U.S., as well as European capital and Russia that is getting its feet on the ground, no longer willing to toe the Western line.
The clashes of the parties each with their own positions indicate the disappearance of the illusionary end of the “cold war”, thus refuting the lies about the existence of the unipolar world. The departure of the Soviet Union from the global political arena was trumpeted as a victory of the West, and “Western values” were proclaimed as universal for all the nations, states and civilizations. Understandably, there can be no diversity of traditions, faiths, socio-economic development models and models of interrelation between the state and society. Everything here is flatly uniform and everyone obeys the power of money.

Drawing the Line: A Fight Empire Can’t Win

Drawing the Line: A Fight Empire Can’t Win
By Nebojsa Malic,
Future historians studying the decline and fall of the American Empire will probably focus on George W. Bush’s disastrous Iraqi adventure — the modern-day equivalent of Alcibiades’ Sicilian expedition — to explain the pathology of a global hyper-power. However, while Iraq has been, beyond any doubt, a significant factor in depleting Imperial power, it is arguably not the conflict that destroyed the Empire’s authority. Since it is the authority that marks the difference between the State and a gang of street thugs (i.e. the perception of legitimacy in the use of force by the populace against which it is being used), its loss is much harder for an Empire to recover from.
Before there was Iraq, there was Kosovo — another “war of choice,” another war of aggression against all international law, national constitutions and alliance charters, waged to show the world that the United States and its NATO military arm asserted the right to attack anyone, anywhere, for whatever reason. It was packaged and sold as a “humanitarian” war, waged to “prevent genocide” and “stop ethnic cleansing.” There was nothing humanitarian about targeting civilian infrastructure. There was no genocide. And the ethnic cleansing that ended up taking place was the expulsion of Serbs, Jews and Roma from the “liberated” province — much as the Jews, Christians, and others who ended up in the “wrong” areas became refugees from “liberated” Iraq.

Exaggerating the Kosovo War’s Death Toll: The Good Old Numbers Game

Defense & Foreign Affairs Special Analysis, Eight Years of Imprecision: Estimating the Kosovo War’s Death Toll; August 24, 2007 (pg. 3-6)
The New York Times reported in 1999: “Ethnic tensions remain [high] in Kosovo, where an estimated 10,000 people were killed in a conflict that began with a crackdown on Kosovo Albanians who seek independence from Yugoslavia.” [1] Eight years later, The New York Times was still reporting “Up to 10,000 people, the majority of them ethnic Albanian, are estimated to have been killed in a conflict between ethnic Albanian insurgents and Yugoslav forces”.[2]
The New York Times reports with precision that 56,253 people were at Yankee Stadium for the game against the Mets, but after eight years they’re still estimating how many people died in Kosovo, even though the highest estimate of casualties would not even fill a quarter of the seats in Yankee Stadium.

Premier Kostunica’s ruling democratic party, DSS (Democratic Party of Serbia), has joined the strongest Serbian party, Radicals, in rejecting the country’s membership in North-Atlantic military alliance.
The party presidency has adopted a program proposal supporting the country’s Partnership for Peace (PfP) membership, but rejecting the membership in NATO itself.
...Unless Citizens Bombed by NATO Wish to Join the Aggressor
“We believe that no one has the right to make decision on Serbia joining any military alliance without the consent of its citizens. This kind of issue will have to be a subject of a referendum, where the citizens will decide,” reads the proposed document sent on Monday to the main board, scheduled to meet on September 15, while the party general assembly will have the last word on the document as it convenes on October 14.
The document also lists the political principles and goals that will guide Serbia’s leading democrats, like preservation of the country’s territorial integrity with Kosovo and Metohija province as its integral part, employment and struggle against poverty, improving the political program of demographic development, rooting out corruption in all segments of society, as well as Serbia’s integration into the EU.
According to its new program, Democratic Party of Serbia considers the state sovereignty inalienable on entire territory of Serbia and no part of the state territory can be taken out of the whole, just like it cannot be exchanged with any other state without the consent of Serbia’s population.
“In line with this principle, Kosovo and Metohija which is currently under the temporary UN administration, remains the integral and inalienable part of our country,” says the document.

If State Department Wants to Seize Kosovo Outside UN, then Americans will Stay in Kosovo Alone

German Defense Minister Franz Jozef Jung made it clear during his visit to the Serbian Kosovo-Metohija province last week that German soldiers would leave Kosovo province in case of any unilateral moves.
“Only a solution founded on an agreement under the umbrella of the United Nations is a basis for the international presence in Kosovo,” he said in Pristina last Friday.
The Bundeswehr — German contingent in Kosovo province with 2,500 soldiers — is KFOR’s largest.
The Swiss President joined German Defense Minister on Tuesday, saying Swiss KFOR soldiers will leave in case of a unilateral proclamation of independence.
“Switzerland’s soldiers can take part in peacekeeping actions abroad only on the basis of UN and OSCE mandates,” Swiss media reported Samuel Schmid has said.
The only way Swiss contingent within KFOR, also known as Swisscoy which, together with Austrian troops, make up the Manoeuvre Battalion Dulje, could remain in Serbian province after the proclamation of independence would be if there was an appropriate UN Security Council resolution in place.

Turkish Antisemitism and Jewish Dhimmitude

Andrew Bostom at The American Thinker skewers the craven refusal of American Jewish groups to acknowledge the resurgence of the jihad ideology and antisemitism in Turkey:
The 16th century dhimmi Jewish leadership's deliberate misrepresentation of the actual plight of Ottoman Jewry was described by Hacker with obvious contempt. Tragically, and in our modern era, inexcusably, this pathological behavior persists five centuries later among contemporary Jewish leadership elites, who appear incapable of identifying, let alone adequately defending against, the resurgence of jihadist Islam in Turkey. Gifted writer Diana West's evocative language depicts the ultimate outcome if this self-destructive dhimmitude is not reversed: "in denial there is defeat."
But a liberating victory can still be achieved if the leadership of the Turkish Jewish community, Israel, and American Jewish advocacy groups simply muster the intellectual courage to overcome their own craven denial. Collectively galvanized, they could confront Erdogan's AKP government over the ugly living legacy of anti-dhimmi and Antisemitic discrimination against Turkey's Jews, and demand immediate efforts at amelioration of their plight: marginalization and legal punishment of Turkish politicians and public intellectuals whose discourse incites Jew-hatred, and potentially, anti-Jewish violence; the implementation of concrete reforms, ensuring in practice equal rights, opportunities, and public safety for Jews. And if all these measures were not implemented rapidly, with tangible evidence of success, Turkey's Jews would be allowed unfettered, mass emigration without any economic penalties.
Such bold, forthright action -- joint "anti-dhimmitude" -- would put an end to the ongoing phenomenon of a vestigial de facto dhimmi Jewish community of Turkey (via its dhimmi leadership) holding Israel, and American Jews hostage to the whims of an oppressive Turkish government, in the throes of a transformative fundamentalist Islamic revival.
Read it all.

Turkey's PM Erdogan: The term "moderate Islam" is ugly and offensive -- Islam is Islam

And so in two sentences Erdogan dismisses the concept on which the Western world has placed its hopes of survival and peace.
Islam is Islam. Will this be discussed in the Western media? Will American and European analysts publicly take up the question of whether or not Erdogan is right, and what the implications might be if he is? Or will they ignore this and continue to assume in all their analyses that the opposite is true, and to dismiss as "ideologues" or "Islamophobes" those who point out that influential Muslims like Erdogan are saying things like this?
Which course do you think they'll choose?
Will Western leaders then begin discussing political Islam and its implications openly? Or will they ignore this and continue to pretend that Islam has no inherent or traditional political character, or if it does, it is infinitely malleable anyway, and can be massaged without difficulty into something completely benign?
Which course do you think they'll choose?
"PM Erdogan: The Term 'Moderate Islam' Is Ugly And Offensive; There Is No Moderate Islam; Islam Is Islam," from the MEMRI Blog (thanks to Mackie):
Speaking at Kanal D TV’s Arena program, PM Erdogan commented on the term “moderate Islam”, often used in the West to describe AKP and said, ‘These descriptions are very ugly, it is offensive and an insult to our religion. There is no moderate or immoderate Islam. Islam is Islam and that’s it.”

Exterminating Kosovo Serbs With UN/NATO Help

U.N. Troops Accused of Abetting Genocide, WorldNetDaily
United Nations forces moved into Kosovo in 1999 to “stop genocide.”
But, according to a blistering new report from the American Council for Kosovo, U.N. troops have aided and abetted the deliberate, systematic and nearly complete ethnic cleansing of the mostly Christian Serb population by mostly Muslim ethnic Albanians.
“Every facet of the way of life of the Serbs of Kosovo is threatened by the new reality established since June 1999 under KFOR (the NATO Kosovo Force) and the U.N. and therefore the very existence of the Serbs there is threatened,” says the report “Hiding Genocide in Kosovo” [.pdf format].
