The Silly Moral Pretensions of the German Left

by John Rosenthal
A new book compares the anti-Semitism that led to the notorious Dreyfus Affair in France to "Islamaphobia" in America that led to Guantanamo.
The American novelist and essayist Louis Begley was in Frankfurt’s Old Opera House earlier this month to promote the German edition of his new book Why the Dreyfus Affair Matters. The English edition is first scheduled for release in late August. Oddly enough, however, a German translation has already been published. The German edition bears a different title: The Dreyfus Affair: Devil’s Island, Guantánamo, a Historical Nightmare [Der Fall Dreyfus: Teufelsinsel, Guantánamo, Alptraum der Geschichte].
The German title is not only grammatically puzzling. Why the emphasis on Dreyfus’s place of imprisonment — an incidental feature of the Dreyfus Affair? And what is the “historical nightmare”? And what does Guantánamo have to do with it? An article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) on Begley’s Frankfurt appearance makes somewhat clearer the significance of these associations.

Iran Sanctions: The German Control Problem

By Benjamin Weinthal
This week, news reports suggest that the Iranian regime is using technology obtained from Siemens, the German energy and engineering giant, and its partner Nokia to crack down on internet access, cell phone use, and Twitter accounts of protesters and dissidents. This disclosure highlights once again German technology's critical role in furthering the regime's activities -- and ultimately its survival. Despite some progress over the past several years, the German government remains lax in enforcing existing sanctions against Iran, and Germany remains Iran's most important trading partner in the West.

Open letter to Mr. Löscher, Dr. Cromme - supervisory board chairman and CEO of Siemens AG

Questions about business with Iran for the Siemens AG Managing Board and Supervisory Board
Dear Mr. Löscher and Dr. Cromme,

Germany is the Islamic Republic of Iran's most important Western trade partner. Siemens has concluded contracts for various large projects in Iran in the last few years. According to Siemens, Siemens has recorded sales of €465 million with customers in Iran during the 2007 fiscal year. We are sure you are aware that Iran is not like most other regular trade partners. One of the Iranian government's declared goals is to erase Israel from the map. Thanks to its nuclear weapons programme, Iran could soon be able to transform this threat into a reality. Iran is already jointly responsible for the murder of Israeli citizens, due to its massive support for the Hamas and Hezbollah terror organizations, including supplying them with weapons. Iran is currently the main obstacle to a peaceful resolution of the conflict in the Middle East.

Germany: Accused jihadi denies Islamic jihad exists

The organization, not the concept. More on this story. "In German court, accused denies Islamic Jihad exists," from Europe News, June 26:
Frankfurt - One of two Muslim men on trial in Germany for supporting a terrorist group denied Friday that the group, the Islamic Jihad Union (IJU), exists.
Omid S, a 28-year-old Afghan-born German citizen, told the Frankfurt court on the first day of his trial that he was not guilty because there was no such group.
The indictment says Omid S attended training camps run by the shadowy group, which operates from the wilds of Afghanistan or Pakistan and is allied to al-Qaeda.
The other accused, 27-year-old Turkish national Huseyin S, identified himself but exercised his right to remain silent about the charges and evidence against him...

Morally Exalted Western Europe was Cashing in on Bosnian Bloodbath

Former President of Republika Srpska (RS, Serb Republic in post-Dayton Bosnia and Herzegovina) Radovan Karadžić has requested documents on illegal shipments of arms to Bosnian Muslim paramilitaries during the 1992-1995 civil war in the former Yugoslav republic. Also, 18 witnesses confirm Karadžić was guaranteed immunity by the United States.
Karadžić’s defense team request, submitted to Austrian authorities through their embassy in Hague, Netherlands, urges Austrian officials to submit report which confirmed weapon shipments to Bosnia after police searched the offices of Vienna-based agency, registered as an organization for “distribution of humanitarian aid to Third World countries”.
Member of Karadžić’s defense team Milivoje Ivanišević said the trail, in addition to illegal weapon shipments, involves manipulations with enormous profits from illicit arm trades pocketed by the highest Western European officials, who drew great financial benefits from the Bosnian bloodbath.

War Criminal Agim Ceku Arrested

Serbian Ministry of Justice is requesting extradition of Albanian war criminal Agim Ceku, arrested Tuesday at a border checkpoint as he was trying to enter Bulgaria from Macedonia. This is the fourth time in the past 6 years Kosovo Albanian killer, former commander of the terrorist KLA and its later incarnation “Kosovo Protection Corps” was arrested on a red Interpol arrest warrant issued by Serbia. According to the criminal procedure initiated before the Niš court, Ceku stands accused of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Bulgarian authorities initially set Ceku’s detention to 24 hours, but before the deadline expired his detention was extended to another 72 hours. Within that time frame, Serbian authorities should submit all the necessary documentation for Ceku’s extradition.
Justice minister Snežana Malović expects Bulgarian officials will urgently make a decision to extradite Ceku to Serbia. She said the extradition process could be implemented in line with the European Convention on Extradition, although Serbia and Bulgaria have a contract on the international legal assistance in criminal matters since 1960.

The Obama Administration's Troubling Amnesia Regarding Germany

by John Rosenthal
The Obama administration is reportedly still trying to convince Germany to accept Guantánamo detainees who have been cleared for release. An earlier attempt to get Germany to accept some or all of the famous Uighur detainees failed. This was presumably due to German reluctance to offend China, which wants the men repatriated to face terror charges. In the meantime, the German Interior Ministry has made clear that Germany will only accept detainees who have some “connection” to Germany.

Berlin wouldn't give Syria, Iran trucks

BERLIN - German Chancellor Angela Merkel's administration imposed a ban on the sale of heavy trucks to Iran and Syria in April 2008 because of Israeli intelligence concerns, according to a report in last week's Der Spiegel magazine. Vehicles "with three or more axles" and a total "weight of more than 20,000 kilograms" can be used to fire Iranian missiles.
Israeli government officials asked representatives of the federal republic last year what their reaction would be if it was ever learned that Teheran had fired missiles at Israel from German trucks. "The expansion of the embargo to include Daimler's semi trucks is also the work of the Israelis. About a year-and-a-half ago, officials from the Mossad told authorities in Berlin about a three-axle special truck that the Syrian government had ordered for its military," according to the Spiegel article. Responding to Israel security concerns, the Merkel administration blocked the delivery of the Daimler trucks. Yet the Daimler Benz top lobbyist, Martin Jäger, a former spokesman for Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is attempting to compel the Merkel administration to reverse its restrictions on Daimler.

Black Propaganda: Of Spooks, Journos and Politicos

Three books, compiling impressive evidence about the unsavory collusion of mainstream media with the elites in power, offer an invaluable insight into the intricacies of black propaganda, war-making, manufacturing consent and cover-up of the real motives and agenda behind the all-too-frequent Anglo-American philanthropic pursuits, threatening to devour the globe. Anyone who still views “unexpected outbreak of hostilities” or wars, seemingly out of the blue “crisis” and political emergencies as a series of unconnected, random, unrelated events mysteriously flaring up in various parts of the world in cryptically rhythmic intervals, like tornadoes and earthquakes, should consider these three books a must read, to break free from the paralyzing delusion

Journalist gains legal victory against German 'anti-Zionist lobby'

BERLIN - A regional court in Cologne on Wednesday dismissed the defamation suit of a radical anti-Zionist Jew, Evelyn Hecht-Galinski, who sought to legally bar German Jewish journalist Henryk M. Broder from labelling her statements anti-Semitic.
Hecht-Galinski - the daughter of Heinz Galinski, who served as head of the Berlin Jewish community as well as the Central Council of Jews in Germany - has filed a series of bogus law suits, according to critics, to muzzle Broder's free speech rights. The court case has garnered national media attention in Germany and Israel.
Broder's attorney, Nathan Gelbart, told The Jerusalem Post that the decision was a "slap in the face of the anti-Zionist lobby." He said the court's decision affirmed that there was "not a fundamental difference between anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism."
Gelbart and his law colleague Katy Ritzmann said in a statement that Broder's free speech rights were protected and "justified because of the anti-Semitic nature of Ms. Hecht-Galinski's statements."
While filing the lawsuits against Broder to turn the screws on his free speech rights, Hecht-Galinski has said that there is a "Jewish-Israel lobby with its active network... extended over the world," working to clamp down on critics of Israel.
She also supports statements equating Israel with Nazi Germany and writes for an anti-Semitic Web site in Germany that devotes coverage to hardcore anti-Israel causes and boycott measures.

Yemen: Jihad against German nurses and a South Korean teacher

An update on this story: Six of the nine Westerners previously reported dead are now reported as missing in the story below.
Jihadists have a knack for rendering helpless the countries in which they take sufficient control: They destroy the internal means of creating wealth by discouraging free enterprise under a regime of physical and intellectual fear. Islamic regimes and their clerics have often inculcated an aversion to new developments and practices as bida, or innovation, that either distracts from Islamic piety or potentially present new opportunities for various sins.

LEON DE WINTER: Time for a new ally?

Obama didn't mention the core message of Hamas: the worldwide destruction of the Jews. Ayatollah Khomeini, the instigator of the present Islamist revolution, defined world history, the course of human events, as follows: "From the beginning, the Islamic movement has been obstructed by the Jews. They were the first who developed anti-Islamic propaganda and conspiracies. And this is still the case."
In other words, opposing Israel, the nation of the Jews, is the driving force of the Islamist revolution, both Sunni and Shi'ite. It is its core. It cannot exist if it would give up its ambition to erase Israel. The destruction of Israel is its ultimate goal, its fuel, its body, its nature, its direction and its destination. Only through the destruction of the cunning, conspiring, obstructing Jews the Islamist revolution can reach its goal: the resurrection of the caliphate.
OBAMA EXPLICITLY decided to ignore this threat, and decided to leave Israel in the cold, or better in the heat of a nuclear explosion. This is what he said: "No single nation should pick and choose which nations hold nuclear weapons." The president meant: Israel, a single nation, doesn't have the right to deny Iran nuclear armament. Iran, an existential threat to Israel, cannot be stopped by Israel on its own - this should be matter of the international community, according to the president.

Something’s Rotten in Rotterdam

Getting jumped by six Moroccans after I left a gay bar in Rotterdam a few weeks ago brought home — with brutal clarity — my feeling that this Dutch port city is a nervous place on the verge of breakdown. Having studied in two European countries, lived and worked in three, and visited about two dozen over a 20-year period, I usually feel extremely safe meandering around the “old countries” of our Western civilization. But there’s something rotten in Rot-town.

Wilders: 'EU is not Israels' friend'

In exclusive interview to 'Post', Dutch politician warns Israelis against trusting Europe to stop Iran
When asked about commentaries in the German media labeling the Freedom Party as "extreme right" - a term typically reserved for neo-Nazi parties in Germany - Wilders said that is "totally ridiculous" and an "insult to the the Dutch people" because the party is now the "biggest party in Holland" according to polls.
The Freedom Party should be viewed within a liberal Dutch tradition, he said, noting that "we are not for cutting social welfare and are for more health care" and because of our "friendship for Israel, the extreme right demonstrates against us."

Gitmo prisoner pushed drugs in Germany

Both Guantanamo prisoners who should be taken up by request of the USA in Germany are known to the security services. As the news magazine "Focus" reports, a Tunisian had come in 1996 illegally to Germany and had applied under wrong name for asylum. In the federal state Hessen he was known to the police as a dealer.
According to the information of the authorities the Tunisian went through a paramilitary education. After the attacks from the 11th September he fled from Afghanistan to Iran, however, was sent back again and handed over in February, 2003 to the US military. The second Guantanamo prisoner was in a Taliban camp and appears according to the news magazine as a potential martyr in a video which was taken up in autumn, 2001. The Ministry of Internal Affairs sees no possibility for the admission of the prisoners because of of the legal conditions.

Rescue In Serbia

Serbia rescued more Jews than any other part of the former Yugoslavia during the Holocaust. Yad Vashem , The Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’Remembrance Authority, has awarded the title of Righteous Among the Nations, those who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust, to 127 individuals from Serbia, which is the highest number for the former Yugoslavia. On December 2, 2008, Arthur Koll, the Israeli Ambassador to Serbia, presented to the children and grandchildren of Borivoje Bondzic, Grozdana Bondzic, Ljubica Mandusic-Gazikalovic, and Jelica Rankovic the Righteous Among the Nations award. They are the descendants of Serbs who during the Holocaust risked their own lives and the lives of their family members to save Jews in the Kosovo town of Prizren and in Aleksandrovac in Serbia. Ambassador Koll remembered their rescue: “Their courage and selflessness will forever remain in our memory.”

Germany: Accused jihadists to plead guilty; one defendant says trial is "boring"

Adem Yilmaz, the bored one, previously refused to stand according to custom for this non-Islamic court, saying "I only stand up for Allah." In that light, his "boredom" likely also stems from his unwillingness to acknowledge the court's authority. No word on whether it has occurred to him that if "boredom" is an issue for him, there's plenty more where that came from once the sentence is handed down.

German public TV blames Geert Wilders for the murder of Theo van Gogh

Van Gogh, of course, was murdered by an Islamic jihadist, but doncha know, he did it because people like Geert Wilders keep provoking the poor dears. One cannot, indeed, make this up. Jihad Watch reader Sagunto sends in this newsflash:
Geert Wilders has been accused by the ZDF (German public television) of providing the climate of "intolerance" that - one can't make it up, you'd say - caused Theo van Gogh to be slaughtered. U.S. warns Germany of pre-election al-Qaeda attack

"Unlike other European countries such as Britain or Spain, Germany has not experienced a major attack on its home soil in recent years." Looks like you're next, Germany. "Germany warns of pre-election Islamist attack-Spiegel," from Reuters, June 6:
BERLIN, June 6 (Reuters) - Al Qaeda is planning a major attack on Germans before September's election to wreak revenge for the deployment of troops in Afghanistan, a German magazine cited security officials as saying on Saturday. Der Spiegel said German intelligence officials and the Federal Crime Office believed German firms based in Algeria and German citizens in northern Africa were in particular danger.
The officials also warned of attacks in Germany. The new assessment is largely due to a warning from the U.S. government, believed to be based on information from al Qaeda in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region, said the weekly.
A spokesman for the Interior Ministry declined to comment on the report of a fresh threat. In recent months, however, officials have repeatedly warned that Germany is a likely target for Islamist militants.
As a result of the new information, Germany's Federal Crime Office has issued a new assessment of the security situation to authorities in each of Germany's 16 federal states.
Unlike other European countries such as Britain or Spain, Germany has not experienced a major attack on its home soil in recent years...

John Rosenthal: The Uncle And The Camp

Well, let us recall that during last year’s electoral campaign, then candidate Obama said that his “uncle” had helped to liberate “Auschwitz” as an American soldier during WWII. As it turned out, it was not his uncle, but rather a great-uncle and it was not Auschwitz, but rather Buchenwald. And in fact it was not quite Buchenwald either, but rather Ohrdruf: a satellite camp of Buchenwald some sixty kilometers away. By commemorating the Holocaust at Buchenwald, it is as if Obama was trying to make the historical reality conform to his own gaffes and misconceptions.

European Parliament elections: Wilders scores second place in Dutch vote

The end of the first full day of voting in the 2009 European Parliament elections saw jubilation among Geert Wilders’ Party for Freedom as exit polls forecast it would take four of the Netherlands’ 25 seats. In the Netherlands, exit polling by market research firm Synovate for Dutch television NOS and ANP news agency gave prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende’s Christian Democrats five seats – with about 20 per cent of the vote - and Wilders’ party four, one ahead of Balkende’s ruling coalition partner, Labour. Voter turnout in the Netherlands European Parliament election was estimated at 40 per cent. Wilders, who has based his European Parliament campaign on messages against Islam in Europe, against Turkey ever being admitted to the EU – messages now said to have got his party about 15 per cent of the vote, has said that he would not take up a seat in the European Parliament. The exit poll forecast, if proven true, would mean that Balkenende’s party has lost two seats and Labour four. The pro-European Liberal Democrats D66 were said by the exit poll to be poised to get three seats, triple their current number. The poll gave Groenlinks and conservative Christian parties two seats each. Animal rights party PvdD could possibly get one seat, the exit poll said. As his party celebrated its gains, Wilders described the outcome as a vote against a bloated and expensive EU and against Balkenende’s governing coalition.

Western-Funded NGOs Destroying Serbia

That the title of “non-governmental organizations” for the most hysterical anti-Serbian clubs operating in Serbia is a cynical oxymoron has been well known since the late President Milošević’s government.
At that time, in their early days, the Serbophobic conclaves established and financed by the Western governments (mainly American congress, through a lethal National Endowment for Democracy — NED, directly responsible for instigating multi-color ‘revolutions’ throughout Eastern Europe) and supported and instrumented by the foreign secret services (mainly American CIA, British MI6 and German BND, but also the Croat agents actively working on further fragmentation of Serbia) were given a fully deserved label of “foreign mercenaries and domestic traitors”, a tag they failed to shake off to this day.
In fact, if one would want to single out the most widely despised, distrusted and disliked segment of society in Serbia, the Western-funded NGOs would be the undisputed champions — Nataša Kandić of Soros’ Open Society, Sonja Biserko of Helsinki Committee, Borka Pavićević running a “Centre for Cultural Decontamination”, Biljana Kovačević Vučo of YUCOM and Sonja Liht running “Belgrade Foundation for Political Excellence” (!) are personally responsible for triggering more barf throbs among the Serbs than a slimiest glob of creatures wriggling in a pond of puss could produce.
It was therefore no surprise when some highly positioned Westerners complained that their “NGOs” in Serbia “have the ugliest, most repulsive individuals at the helm” who can “hardly make anyone stay long enough to hear what they have to say”.

Stop Apologizing!

The world needs a president who aggressively projects American power on the world stage, rather than seeks the adoration of traditionally hostile foreign audiences. In Egypt, Obama should not be afraid to offend the sensibilities of Muslim leaders, by calling for religious tolerance, freedom of speech, worship and association, and a rejection of Islamist extremism. In Germany, the president should call on Europe to learn the lessons of the Holocaust and stand and fight against totalitarianism, whether in the form of the Taliban in Afghanistan or the Mullahs of Tehran in their drive for nuclear domination of the Middle East. He must urge the Germans to end their massive investments in Iran, which shamefully help sustain a regime that threatens to wipe the descendents of the survivors of the Final Solution from the face of the earth.
