Happy New Year !

Did Sweden Commit National Suicide on Immigration Measure?

By Daniel Pipes

Woe to anyone in Sweden who dissents from the orthodox view that welcoming large numbers of indigent peoples from such countries as Iraq, Syria, and Somalia is anything but a fine and noble idea. Even to argue that permitting about 1 percent of the existing population to emigrate annually from an alien civilization renders one politically, socially, and even legally beyond the pale. (I know a journalist threatened with arrest for mild dissent on this issue.) Stating that there exists a Swedish culture worth preserving meets with puzzlement.
And yet, the realities of immigration are apparent for all to see: welfare dependency, violent bigotry against Christians and Jews, and a wide range of social pathologies from unemployment to politically motivated rape. Accordingly, ever-increasing numbers of Swedes find themselves — despite known hazards — opting out of the consensus and worrying about their country’s cultural suicide.
The taboo on such attitudes means that political parties, with only one exception, staunchly support continued immigration. Only the Sweden Democrats (SD) offer an alternative: real efforts to integrate existing immigrants and a 90 percent decrease in future immigration. Despite an unsavory neo-fascist past (not something unique to it, by the way), SD has become increasingly respectable and has been rewarded with electoral success, doubling its parliamentary vote from 3 percent in 2006, to 6 percent in 2010, to 13 percent in 2014. All the Swedes with whom I spoke on a recent visit expect the SD vote to grow further, something recent polls confirm.
If a party or bloc of parties held a large majority in Sweden’s unicameral parliament, SD would be virtually irrelevant. But the Riksdag’s two blocs are almost equally balanced. Three left-wing parties control 159 of 349 seats, while the “right wing” (quotation marks to denote that, from an American perspective, it’s hardly conservative) Alliance for Sweden, consisting of four parties, has 141 seats. This means that SD, with 49 seats, holds the balance of power.
But SD is deemed anathema, so no party bargains with it to pass legislation, not even indirectly through the media. Both Left and “Right” seek to isolate and discredit it. Nevertheless, SD has played kingmaker on certain crucial legislation, particularly the annual budget. In keeping with its policy to drive from power every government that refuses to reduce immigration, it brought down an Alliance for Sweden government in early 2014. Recent weeks saw a repeat of this scenario, when SD joined the Alliance in opposing the leftist budget, forcing the government to call for elections in March 2015.
But then something remarkable occurred: The two major blocs compromised not only on the current budget, but also on future budgets and power-sharing all the way to 2022. The left and “right” alliances worked out trade-offs so that elections need not take place in March, allowing the Left to rule until 2018, with the “Right” possibly taking over from 2018 until 2022. Not only does this political cartel deprive SD of its pivotal role but, short of winning a majority of parliamentary seats in 2018, it has no meaningful legislative role for the next eight years, during which time the immigration issue is off the table.
This is nothing short of astonishing: To stifle debate over the country’s most contentious issue, 86 percent of the parliament joined forces to marginalize the 14 percent that disagrees. The two major blocs diluted their already tepid differences to exclude the insurgent, populist party. Mattias Karlsson, the acting SD leader, accurately notes that with this deal, his party has become the only real opposition.
In the long term, however, things look good for SD, which will likely gain from this undemocratic sleight of hand. Swedes, long accustomed to democracy, do not appreciate a backroom arrangement that almost surely nullifies their votes in 2018. They don’t like its bullying quality. Nor do they take well to removing a highly controversial issue from consideration. And when the time comes to “throw the bums out,” as always it does, the Sweden Democrats will offer the only alternative to the tired, fractious coalition that will have been in power for eight long years — during which time immigration problems will alarm yet more voters.
In other words, this blatant act of suppression is spurring the very debate it is intended to quash. Before too long, the supreme issue of national suicide might actually be discussed.

Churchill? Muslim convert? He’d sooner have voted National Socialist…

By James Delingpole

Quite the stupidest “news” story I saw over Christmas was the one about how Winston Churchill was apparently urged in a letter by one of his future in-laws not to convert to Islam.
When I started out in journalism in the late Eighties under the great Max Hastings, it’s what we would have called a “diary story”. That is, we would have set out the basic facts, with a view to allowing the reader to have a quiet chortle at the silliness of it all: US academic at a Cambridge college, anxious for a bit of publicity for his thesis, flourishes this mildly diverting archive letter he’s found from one Lady Gwendoline Bertie.
Dated August 1907 it says:
“Please don’t become converted to Islam; I have noticed in your disposition a tendency to orientalise, Pasha-like tendencies, I really have.
“If you come into contact with Islam your conversion might be effected with greater ease than you might have supposed, call of the blood, don’t you know what I mean, do fight against it.”
Are we really so tone deaf and historically illiterate, now, that we can no longer recognise Edwardian humour? Lady Gwendoline is quite clearly joshing Churchill, in a fairly typical amused, playful, aristocrat-with-time-on-her-hands way. Words like “Pasha” offer a big clue. The side of Islamic culture Churchill might have been attracted too – as many Englishmen have been and are, including me – is the romantic side: the exotic outfits; the rigours of the desert, the camels; the elaborate hospitality; the birds of prey; all the Sir Richard Burton meets Lawrence of Arabia stuff, basically.
As for the religion itself, we know exactly what Churchill’s view was. He spelt it out in his 1899 book The River War, in a way so forthright that when Paul Weston, the chairman of the party Liberty GB, publicly quoted it during this year’s European Elections he was arrested by the police on “suspicion of racial harassment.”
‘How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries!,’
‘Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy.
‘The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live.
‘A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity.
‘The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property – either as a child, a wife, or a concubine – must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.
‘Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the faith: all know how to die but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it.
‘No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith.’
Nope. Don’t think there’s much evidence there that Churchill was in any danger of embracing the Muslim faith. Unless, perhaps, I’m missing the tone of The River War and it was perhaps all written in the spirit of jocund irony….

German Chancellor Lashes Out at Anti-Islamification Marches as Support Grows

By Oliver Lane

Angela Merkel will use her televised new year’s eve address tonight to call on Germans to reject the Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of Europe (PEGIDA) movement, remarking it “goes without saying” that Germany should accept mass immigration and refugees from the third world without questioning it. Only last week PEGIDA, which started as a small ‘stroll’ in the east German city of Dresden in October of 200 like-minded people, had grown to a significant march of 17,500. After three months of weekly Monday strolls, PEGIDA called a special Christmas protest, and the crowd met to sing Carols against radical Islam. Thanks to the organisation, the Islamisation of Europe has hit the top of the German news agenda for the first time, and has goaded the political establishment into a reaction.
Chancellor Merkel’s speech, which will be televised tonight, has been previewed by European media and will instruct German citizens to shun the PEGIDA movement, and to accept what it protests with open arms. In the pre-recorded tape, Merkel made reference to the rally slogan of the Patriotic Europeans ‘we are the people’, a phrase inherited from strollers in a previous generation who campaigned against censorship and oppression in Communist East Germany.
The chancellor said: “Today many people are again shouting on Mondays: ‘We are the people’. But in fact they mean: You do not belong – because of the colour of your skin or your religion.
“So I say to everyone who goes to such demonstrations: Do not follow those who are appealing to you! Because too often there is prejudice, coldness, even hatred, in their hearts”.
Asylum applications to Germany have quadrupled in the past two years, and immigration is at a twenty-year high. This sudden spike in new-comers to Germany, along with a series of fierce pitched battles between immigrants bringing foreign conflicts with them to the streets of Europe are among the main inspirations for the PEGIDA movement, alongside parallel Sharia legal systems and a perceived failure by many to integrate. Despite that, Merkel was full of praise for migration.
Moving on from damning those in Germany who campaign against radical Islam, Merkel herself criticised radical Islam, speaking of the atrocities performed in the name of the newly established caliphate, the Islamic State. She said: “One consequence of these wars and crises is that worldwide there are more refugees than we have seen since the second world war. Many literally escaped death.
“It goes without saying that we help them and take in people who seek refuge with us”. Merkel said because of the falling birthrate and an ageing population immigration was necessary, and indeed was “a gain for all of us”.
The chancellor added that Germany being the single most popular destination in Europe for asylum seekers and migrants was “perhaps the biggest compliment” that could be paid to a nation.
Angela Merkel is not the only member of the German political and social ‘elite’ to criticise the strollers of the PEGIDA movement. The country’s centre-left SPD have gone as far as calling PEGIDA “Nazis in pinstripes”, and during last week’s Dresden stroll the Bavarian state opera house turned off its lights and unfurled large banners promoting ‘humanity’ in protest.
PEGIDA had announced they would resume their marches in the new year on Monday the 5th of January this morning, however by Wednesday afternoon the posts had been deleted from Facebook, their primary method of communication with followers. A statement released by the Group along with a link to a news article about Merkel’s condemnation of the group asked: “Are we nearing a ban on our movement?
“We had to delete some posts! The cause for this are the nightly activities coming from the left. They posted false images of our movement, to make racist and anti-constitutional comments by using fake profiles. We ask for your understanding!
“We wish you a happy new year and a better, peaceful 2015 for all us!”

Police Scotland Warns Twitter Users: Big Brother Is Watching You

By Donna Rachel Edmunds

Police Scotland, which is responsible for policing the whole of Scotland, has taken to Twitter to warn people that they are continuing to “monitor comments on social media”, and that “any offensive comments will be investigated.” The Tweet, posted at 3:49pm yesterday afternoon, has been retweeted nearly 700 times.

The Tweet was met with a storm of opprobrium from fellow Twitter users, with some questioning what would be deemed “offensive”, whilst others simply swore. A good number of the replies questioned the legitimacy of Police Scotland’s tweet. Jamie Foster ‏replied “It is excellent to know you have a budget to do that. We were worried the cuts might have affected you but clearly not”. John Lilburne opted for a simple “F*** yourselves”, whilst another Twitter user commented “#Fascism”.
There is some speculation that the tweet was prompted by Katie Hopkin’s tirade on twitter yesterday. The former Apprentice star decided to weigh in on the news that a Scottish nurse has been diagnosed with Ebola in Glasgow by tweeting:

In response, Piers Morgan called her a “repulsive creature”. Police Scotland have confirmed that they are investigating her tweets. Det Insp Glyn Roberts, of Police Scotland, said: “We have received a number of complaints regarding remarks made on Twitter. Inquiries are ongoing into the nature of these tweets and to establish any potential criminality. Police Scotland will thoroughly investigate any reports of offensive or criminal behaviour online and anyone found to be responsible will be robustly dealt with.”
This is not the first time that Police Scotland have issued such a warning. On the 23rd December they tweeted: “Please be aware that we will continue to monitor comments on social media & any offensive comments will be investigated #georgesquare”, with reference to the shocking incident in Glasgow in which an out of control bin lorry killed six Christmas shoppers.
That Tweet too was met with derision. David Jack Smith replied “PLEASE BE AWARE that the British police are monitoring YOU>>@policescotland Just like the North Koreans, Commie Chinese, et al”, whilst RubyMalvolio ‏asked “which law are you enforcing? Didn’t realise being offensive was illegal.”
Indeed it is. On the same day, a 19 year old man in Sunderland was arrested by Northumbria Police on suspicion of making a malicious communication after he tweeted “So a bin lorry has apparently driven in 100 people in Glasgow eh, probably the most trash it’s picked up in one day”. The tweet has now been deleted, along with his account. The man has been bailed.
Police Scotland also use their Twitter feed to intimidate those suspected of domestic abuse. On 29th December they tweeted “If you commit domestic abuse we’ll find you … #NoHidingPlace” The tweet also contained a link to a video warning “Police Scotland will not tolerate domestic abuse. If you commit it, we’ll find you – there is #NoHidingPlace”.
By contrast, Greater Manchester Police’s twitter feed urges those committing domestic abuse to seek help. On the same day as Police Scotland’s threat went out, Greater Manchester police tweeted “Domestic abuse is a crime and you could face time in prison. Seek help #endthefear and contact Respect 0808 8024040”.
They have also tweeted about rape eight separate times in the last ten days alone. Tweets include “Do you know what rape is? If someone is drunk & they can’t consent – that is rape. If someone is asleep & they can’t consent – that is rape,” which was posted last night.
Meanwhile, Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland and the leader of the Scottish National Party, met with officers within the Scottish police force to thank them for all their hard work. On the 22nd December, Police Scotland tweeted “Today officers met with FM @NicolaSturgeon as she thanked the emergency services for their work over Xmas”, and urged the people of Scotland to “tweet your ‘thank you’ message by using #BlueLightThanks”.

Number One Priority for 2015: Make Political Correctness History

By Gerald Warner

While pundits and politicians strive to persuade themselves and anyone else who will listen of the probable outcome of the General Election of 2015, voters may find themselves baffled by the vast amounts of misinformation put out by the mainstream media, acolytes of the consensual conspiracy that has enslaved Britain.
The large majority of people now realize that their country has been taken over and transformed massively for the worse. Daily they see around them further evidence of deterioration, but they can see no means of halting, let alone reversing, this process of degeneration. So they despair – which is precisely the state of mind to which the liberal establishment wishes to reduce them.
But 2015 represents an opportunity to retrieve the situation, if the voters have the insight and determination to take back their country. They need to adopt an attitude of total implacability towards the politicians of the discredited LibLabCon confederacy. Putting the country to rights requires open, uninhibited debate. That means removing all legal impediments to free speech and expression of personal preferences.
When we live in a country where a 14-year-old schoolgirl can be arrested for wanting to sit beside the English-speaking pupils in her class we cannot pretend that Britain is in any realistic sense a free society.
That is where UKIP comes into the equation. If Nigel Farage wants to harvest millions of votes from every section of society outside the Islington/Notting Hill hothouse, he must make the elimination of political correctness an absolute commitment. It should be a keystone of UKIP’s general election manifesto.
This exercise is not rocket science. UKIP researchers should trawl all parliamentary statutes passed since the accession to power of the Great Charlatan Tony Blair in 1997. Those that are specifically designed to promote PC tyranny, such as the Equality Act, should be listed as Category ‘A’. Those Acts and regulations primarily concerned with legitimate issues, but containing PC clauses, should be listed Category ‘B’.
A very simple, single-clause statute should then be drafted, stating that all the Acts and sections of Acts itemized in the attached schedule are repealed with effect from the date of Royal Assent. The schedule should be a list of the two categories of PC enforcement legislation passed since 1997.
By this means, the whole conglomeration of anti-free speech, anti-British laws that have accumulated on the Statute Book over the past 18 years would, at a stroke, be abolished, without undermining necessary legislation contained in parts of those Acts, since all the offending PC clauses would be specified in the Schedule.
The obvious objection that will occur even to people of good will who want to see such an agenda implemented is the extreme unlikelihood of UKIP being in government after the coming election. Nor will it, unless its leaders become demented and enter into coalition with any other party or parties: the fate of the Liberal Democrats is an object lesson in the unwisdom of succumbing to the temptation of red boxes and government cars.
To retain its support, UKIP must remain uncontaminated by the dying legacy parties. But if it follows its declared intention of voting according to the merits of every individual measure being processed through the House of Commons, it could still be in a position to insist on repeal of PC laws as the price of its support for a government on the verge of falling.
More important than that hypothetical eventuality, however, is the boost that a cut-and-dried draft Bill to repeal the oppressive laws that have made free speech a thing of the past would give to UKIP’s support. If the British people could see a brief document that succinctly and effectively offered the concrete prospect of reversing the PC dictatorship unambiguously on offer, Nigel Farage’s party would enjoy a surge in support.
UKIP’s message should be: “Life doesn’t have to be like this. People do not need to pause or stumble uncertainly in conversation (‘If I’m still allowed to say that…’), fumbling for approved euphemisms about race, religion (well, one religion anyway), sexual preferences, et al. The Stasi state is not irreversible. All you have to do is put a cross on a ballot paper.”
So, come on, Nigel. Let us see, on a single sheet of paper, the draft Repeal of Oppressive and Anti-Libertarian Statutes Bill, accompanied by a Schedule of the specific laws due for the axe. To that should be added the abolition of heavier sentences for so-called “aggravated” offences, i.e. offences against the prejudices of the Frankfurt Marxist left. And, for presentational purposes, this initiative should be associated with the eighth centenary of Magna Carta in 2015. If we enjoy less freedom than our grandparents, what price “progress”.

The Ethnic Cleansing of Jesus

By Richard Mather

In recent decades, the quest to rescue Jesus’ Jewish identity has yielded much fruit. Geza Vermes, Robert Eisenman, E.P Sanders, James Tabor, R. T. Herford, George Foot Moor and Hyam Maccoby are among those who have highlighted Jesus’ Jewish identity and origins. Combined with the shared interest in the Dead Sea Scrolls, Jews and Christians have engaged together in the exploration of the Jewish roots of Christianity.
Jesus was born of a Jewish woman in the Judean town of Bethlehem, and was given the Jewish name of “Yeshua,” literally “Joshua.” He was circumcised, attended synagogue services and the Temple, wore tassels, was referred to as “Rabbi,” and observed the Sabbath, Passover and Sukkot. He quoted from the Hebrew Bible and clearly saw himself as fulfilling the Scriptures in some way. He held the Torah in high esteem and reiterated the importance of the Shema. He also made it clear that he believed that he had “come for the lost sheep of Israel” and that “Salvation is of the Jews.”
However, Christian Palestinianism has a done a great deal to try to undermine this. The Palestinian Jesus falsehood is a shocking return to the “Jesus was an Aryan” falsehood of the Far Right or the Church-sanctioned portrayal of Jesus as a fair-skinned, blue-eyed gentile. The identicide of the Jewish Jesus is also redolent of an ancient heresy known as Gnosticism, sometimes described as a metaphysical anti-Semitism.
Ye’or, in her book Eurabia: the Euro-Arab Axis, writes of the theological similarities between Palestinianism and Marcion gnosticism, which rejects the Hebrew Bible and believes the God of Israel to be a lower entity than the God of the New Testament. Likewise, Christian Palestinianism either ignores the Hebrew scriptures or wants to ‘de-Zionise’ the prophecies that do not suit the Palestinian agenda. As with Marcionism, God is no longer the God of Israel with a special interest in the fate of the Jewish people, but the God of "Palestine".
The ethnic cleansing of Jesus is part of a wider effort to de-Judaize the Jewish people in order to undermine their claim to the land of Israel. So as well as being de-chosen by God, the people of Israel are not even Jewish, according to some Christian Palestinianists. In the mid-1990s, the Palestinian Authority aired a program that claimed Palestinians are the real descendants of the biblical Israelites. One of the so-called experts who was invited to appear on the show was Jarid el-Qadaweh, who egregiously declared: “In my blood there is more of the Children of Israel than in that of Ariel Sharon and Benjamin Netanyahu.” Mitri Raheb, the pastor of Christmas Lutheran Church in Bethlehem, has used the figure of Jesus to question the ethnic validity of the State of Israel:
“I’m sure if we were to do a DNA test between David, who was a Bethlehemite, and Jesus, born in Bethlehem, and Mitri, born just across the street from where Jesus was born, I’m sure the DNA will show that there is a trace. While, if you put King David, Jesus and Netanyahu, you will get nothing, because Netanyahu comes from an East European tribe who converted to Judaism in the Middle Ages.”
Like el-Qadaweh, Raheb claims the average Palestinian is native to the land and is genetically similar to Jesus. In contrast, the average Israeli is an interloper from eastern Europe and is genetically dissimilar from Jesus. This raises the controversial question: is there such a thing as a Jewish gene? Extensive DNA testing does show there is such a thing. Genetic studies on the Y chromosome show that modern Jewish populations have a predominantly Middle Eastern ancestry, thereby discrediting the theory that Ashkenazi Jews are descendants of the Khazars (a semi-nomadic Turkic people from the Middle Ages). But the question of “who is a Jew?” is wide open to interpretation and has been debated for thousands of years, sometimes with devastating consequences.
Arafat and Bethlehem
When Arafat made his first Christmas appearance in Bethlehem in 1995, he invoked the Christian nativity by crying, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill towards men.” To which the crowd responded, “In spirit and blood we will redeem thee, O Palestine!”
Bethlehem obviously held a special place in Arafat’s heart. Not because he had any special love for Jesus and Christianity but because it was a political rallying point. Bethlehem, according to Arafat, was the “birthplace of the first Palestinian Christian, Jesus Christ.”
Arafat’s reference to the nativity is obviously a ploy to unite Muslims and Christian Arabs against Israel. In and of itself, this is unspectacular, but when placed in the wider context of Islamic replacement theology, the (mis)use of Jesus is sinister. (Arafat not only proclaimed that Jesus was a Palestinian but is “our Lord the Messiah,” which is an astonishing statement for a Muslim to make. Referring to Jesus as Lord is to detract from the strict monotheism of Islamic faith, a grave sin known as shirk.)
The appropriation of the crucifixion by Muslim Palestinians in their war on Israel is puzzling. The image of the crucified Palestinian/Jesus is a common propaganda motif. And yet the Quran says that Jesus wasn’t put on the cross but was raised up to heaven. So, not only are Muslims committing an act of apostasy by referring to Jesus as “our Lord” they are even refuting their own scripture by claiming Jesus was a crucified Palestinian. (This is not the only example of Muslims cherry-picking the Quran to suit their agenda. The Quran explicitly states the Land of Israel is a Jewish and not a Muslim inheritance.)
Other times, Jesus is referred to as a Shahid, a holy martyr of Islam. Arafat often referred to Jesus as the first Palestinian martyr, which is historically incorrect and is at odds with Islamic tradition. There are no references to Jesus as a Shahid in Islamic works, and it is impossible for Jesus to be a martyr if he did not die on the cross, which is the view of the Quran.
The final step in the Palestinianisation of Bethlehem is the fact that UNESCO – the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization – has approved a Palestinian bid to categorise the Church of the Nativity (the birthplace of Jesus) as a World Heritage Site. UNESCO’s approval effectively endorses a specifically Palestinian culture and heritage that is distinct from the history of Israel.
Obviously, the invention of the Palestinian Jesus and the misuse of the crucifixion as a political weapon is just one more lethal narrative aimed at demonising Israel and is not an authentic reconciliation with Christianity. In fact, the Christian population in the "West Bank" has ebbed away under PA rule. And yet Christians in the West seem happy to play along with the pretence that nothing is amiss because they both share the same enemy – Israel.

Sharia UK: 19-year-old arrested for video showing him burning Qur’an

Would this teenager have been arrested for burning the Bible? Of course not. But the Cameron government is desperate to appease Islamic supremacists — apparently even to the point of adopting Sharia laws governing the treatment of the Qur’an. I am not in favor of burning any book, but I am also in favor of the freedom of expression, which is an absolutely non-negotiable feature of any free society — and one that the British are throwing away with both hands. Britain is not only dying; it is stupid. It is not only rapidly descending into Sharia, chaos, and civil war (the latter two because a small number of people there, after being hounded and smeared by their own governing authorities for opposing Islamization, will ultimately stand resisting it), but it is making itself ridiculous as it does so. It is embarrassing to watch Britain today, in the same way as it would be embarrassing to watch a senile old man attempt to sing and dance while under the delusion that he was still young, handsome and vigorous. It is impossible to respect modern Britain.
“19-year-old released on bail after alleged Koran-burning video,” Yorkshire Standard, December 29, 2014:
A 19-year-old from Leeds, West Yorkshire, who was arrested in connection with an offensive video he posted on a social media website has been released on bail.
A video, which was shared to the Yorkshire Standard, showed a man ripping apart an English translation of the Koran with his teeth and putting it in the toilet before burning it.
The police arrested the suspect on 27 December after people raised concerns for the safety of the person who had posted the video up following a number of public comments made in response to it.
People also called the police complaining about the offensive nature of the video.
The suspect was arrested from an address in Beeston, Leeds, on suspicion of a racially or religiously aggravated public order offence.
Superintendent Mabs Hussain, of Leeds District Police, said: “Due to the nature of this offence, any decision to charge must be taken by the Director of Public Prosecutions. We are currently preparing an advice file which we will be submitting to the Crown Prosecution Service in due course. In the meantime the arrested man has been released on bail to an alternative location.
“We are aware of strong feelings expressed by a number of people in response to this video. We would again urge people to allow this investigation to run its course and remind members of the public that we will take robust action against anyone who acts outside of the law.”
The Yorkshire Standard was notified by various members of the public about the video.
The site also received links to the video and it had been shared at least over 1,000 times and had over 100 comments – some included death threats.
It was removed from the account a day after the arrest.
The police were contacted by the Yorkshire Standard for a clarification on whether the man did rip the Koran, put it in a toilet and burn it. The police refused to confirm or go into detail. The video was deemed as an offensive video.

French Anti-Semitic Comedian Dieudonné Embroiled in Potentially Fatal Political Row

Dieudonné M’bala M’bala, the anti-Semitic French provocateur who describes himself as a comedian, has found himself on the receiving end of severe criticism from former supporters who resent his ties to Alain Soral, a white French fascist with whom he founded a new political party, Réconciliation Nationale, last month.
“Several black supporters of Dieudonné, including former bodyguards, have turned against him, complaining of his increasingly close connections with white, allegedly racist, groups in France and what they claim is his supposed obsession with personal enrichment,” London’s Independent newspaper reported.
At the heart of the row is a sordid email exchange between Soral – whose latest book, Understanding Empire, recycles the myth of global Jewish control – and a Guinean model named Binti Bangoura.
While Bangoura was under the impression that their correspondence was based on her interest in Soral’s political ideas, he was more concerned with pursuing a sexual relationship, and sent her a naked image of himself which has since been widely posted online, provoking a good deal of amusement. According to the Independent, Soral published a book on the “sociology” of pick-up techniques and has claimed 700 female conquests.
When Bangoura rejected Soral’s advances, he sent her a series of obscene emails. In one, he told her that “whites think black women are whores, which most of them are.” Another email declared, “your fate will be to be a whore for Jews.” Bangoura has now begun legal proceedings against Soral for racial abuse.
The campaign against Dieudonné is being led by one of his former bodyguards, Jérémie Maradas-Nado, alias Jo Dalton, a former leader of the Black Dragons, a gang which defended black people from attacks by white skinheads in the 1990s. Commenting on the political relationship between Dieudonné and Soral, Dalton said: “At first I told myself that these guys were breaking new ground – that they were courageous. Then I saw more and more people with shaven heads and swastikas. By allying himself with fascists, Dieudonné has betrayed the black cause.”
For his part, Dieudonné has responded by accusing Dalton of “extortion” and of being a “Zionist stooge.” As a recent article in Le Monde observed, for Dieudonné and his cohorts, the word “Zionism” amounts to the “ultimate insult.”
Michel Gurfinkiel, a French political analyst who has published widely on the subject of anti-Semitism in France, told The Algemeiner that the split in Dieudonné’s camp reflected a contest over power rather than political principles. “There is no ‘ideological’ split whatsoever, and certainly not when it comes to Israel and the Jews,” Gurfinkiel said.
As an example, Gurfinkiel cited the case of Marc-Edouard Nabé, a French writer of Lebanese origin who has distanced himself from Dieudonné and Soral. “For all that, Nabé still very much indulges in provocation for provocation’s sake, anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism,” he said.
Gurfinkiel argued that the alliance between Dieudonné and Soral poses a greater challenge to the French far left than to the extreme right-wing National Front party led by Marine Le Pen. “On the one hand, Marine Le Pen never liked them, and saw them as counterproductive in her own strategy to get accepted as a mainstream political leader. On the other hand, Soral has his own ambitions and plans to be the ultimate French Führer,” he said.
Contrastingly, the far left, Gurfinkiel said, is now in the awkward situation of watching its “supporters deserting en masse for Dieudonné’s ‘funny shows.’” Far left groups are now campaigning against Soral by labeling him a “fascist.”
While Dieudonné is famous for his political stunts – among them the “quenelle,” an inverted Nazi salute proffered by his supporters and admirers like Nicolas Anelka, a French soccer player who received a five match ban when he made the gesture during a match in England – his forays into electoral politics have been much less successful. In 2009, his “Anti-Zionist List,” formed to “free our state, government and institutions from the hands of Zionists,” scored just 1.3 percent of the vote in elections to the European parliament.

Erdogan Claims Turkey Has the ‘World’s Freest Press’

By Adelle Nazarian

Less than two weeks after police raided opposition media linked to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s arch-nemesis Fethullah Gulen (who is currently in a self-imposed exile in the United States), Erdogan said Turkey has the freest press in the world. “Nowhere in the world is the press freer than it is in Turkey. I’m very sure of myself when I say this. The press is so free in Turkey that one can make insults, slanders, defamation, racism and commit hate crimes that are not tolerated even in democratic countries,” Erdogan said in a televised speech from Turkey’s capital city Ankara on Friday. “I’ve personally experienced this, so has my family,” he said according to the Times of India.
Erdogan also took the opportunity to lash back at the European Union for their criticism of his raids on Gulen’s opposition media source. The EU recently said Erdogan’s move ran counter to European values; Turkey has been trying to join the EU for quite some time. Erdogan reportedly said “Europeans accuse us as if such things never happen in their countries. No one raises their voice when journalists are detained in Europe.”
Turkey was the top jailer of journalists for two years consecutively (2012 and 2013), leaving the country ahead of China and Iran according to an annual report from the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists. Turkey dropped into 10th place this year.
Adding insult to injury, Erdogan’s speech coincided with the release of a 16-year-old boy who was arrested at his high school last Wednesday and released on Friday for calling Erdogan the “chief of corruption.” Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu had reportedly supported the court’s original decision to arrest the boy, saying “Everyone must respect the office of president whoever he is,” the Telegraph notes. The teen is awaiting trial and if convicted could face up to four years in prison.

EU-Funded Lecturer Ridiculed after Claiming UKIP Campaign to Stop EU Migrants Eating British Babies

A lecturer at London’s left-wing School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) has drawn ridicule after delivering a “fictionalised”, hour-long talk about the UK Independence Party, in which he used spoof posters that stated UKIP claimed EU migrants would eat British babies.
Ryan Brading, who is a Teaching Fellow at the Department of Development Studies at SOAS, delivered the remarks in a lecture entitled, “From populist rage to institutional norms. The case of Venezuela and UKIP”, as a part of the “Populismus” series of lectures, funded by the European Union.
During the 50 minute long speech, Brading cited a number of examples to students of how UKIP’s campaigning was getting “very, very aggressive” — and prompted awkward silences from the audience as he claimed that a spoof poster created by online, anti-UKIP trolls, was real.
The poster read: “Guess whose children EU migrants want to eat? Vote UKIP on Thursday May 22nd”.
The material was obviously not genuine, though Brading didn’t pick up on this. He then went on to falsely claim that UKIP has said that every single man, woman and child in Bulgaria and Romania would come to the UK, before getting the population figures for the respective countries incorrect for the period in question.
UKIP actually campaigned to stop a further door in Britain’s immigration system opening when Romania and Bulgaria gained full access to the EU’s freedom of movement in January of 2014.
A UKIP spokesperson told Breitbart London: “I’d say this was hilarious, but actually, here is a series funded by the EU, which means the money is coming from the European taxpayer. Furthermore, parents and the students themselves are paying thousands of pounds for the pleasure of being presented with farcical lectures and outright lies. Brading should be removed from his position immediately.”
The lecture was uploaded to YouTube several days ago, and appears to be part of a Greek government and EU funded series promoting left-wing academics, ideas, and speakers. The Populismus website reads: “Populism is dynamically and unexpectedly back on the agenda. Latin American governments that dismiss the so-called ‘Washington consensus’ and extreme right-wing parties and movements in Europe advancing xenophobic and racist stereotypes exemplify this trend. At the same time, emerging social movements that resist the current administration of the global financial crisis (from the ‘Indignants’ in Spain and Greece to ‘Occupy Wall Street’) and the Tea Party movement in the US have also been branded ‘populist’.”
Mr Brading did not respond to Breitbart London’s request for comment on the matter.

UK: Nine Tory Cabinet Ministers Want To Campaign For ‘OUT’ in 2017 EU Referendum

By A.B. Sanderson

Eurosceptic cabinet ministers are clamouring for David Cameron to let them join the NO side in a referendum on Britain’s continued membership of the European Union, and are concerned that the strategy of negotiations followed by a vote will effectively put the party at war for two years, The Times reports.
The Prime Minister pledged that he would renegotiate terms with Brussels, something which so far has been almost entirely unsuccessful, then offer a referendum in 2017 – anticipating that his successes at the discussion table will quell the demand for withdrawal.
At least nine Tory Ministers are prepared to campaign for an out vote in what would be a cross party campaign with members from UKIP, Labour and the Conservatives as well as business joining up to champion an independent country free to trade with the rest of the world.
This group refer back to the example set by Harold Wilson, who abandoned collective responsibility during the last in-out campaign in 1975. They hold the opinion that if Mr Cameron fails to deliver on his promised reforms, including power transfers back to Westminster on immigration, benefits and financial services, then they cannot support the UK remaining part of the political bloc.
The referendum pledge was announced by Mr Cameron as the UKIP surge picked up pace and polls showed the mood of the nation was drifting towards Mr Farage’s view point. And a series of huge financial demands made by the European Commission, including a €1.7bn surcharge because the British economy had performed successfully outside the shackles of the single currency, riled tax payers and allowed withdrawalists to make hay.
But leaving a gap of two years is considered by some to be a risk, especially given the less than impressive track record Mr Cameron has secured so far, which mainly includes losing his high profile campaign against Jean Claude Juncker becoming the EU President and being told off by Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor.
“The timetable we have given ourselves is madness,” said one Cabinet Minister.  “It would be a continual distraction from all our work on the economy and the progress we are making on it.”
Speaking on the BBC’s World at One programme yesterday, former Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said that Cameron’s strategy had already cost the UK influence at the debating table.
He said his “aggressive rhetoric” could lead to Britain’s exit from the Union although by previously refusing to support withdrawal if he did not get signifiant changes the Prime Minister had been accused of not playing his trump card by the opposing side.
So far the Prime Minister has refused to be drawn on whether he will support yes or no in order to avoid speculation about his own confidence in successfully renegotiating significant legal changes. Similarly, George Osborne is staying quiet on the subject as his position as Chancellor is crucial in any negations and the presentation of the outcomes.
Other ministers, noticeably representing constituencies in the Home Counties including Michael Gove, Philip Hammond and Oliver Letwin say they would vote to leave the EU without any radical reforms.
Conservative backbenchers, led by outspoken eurosceptic Graham Brady, Chairman of the 1922 committee, have already won the right to a free rein during the campaign even if their leader is campaigning to stay in.
A senior government figure said the Prime Minsiter would be “very wise to suspend collective responsibility on the issue” adding, “It is the only way to avoid resignations and to ensure that once the referendum result is in, everyone comes back together.”
During the last referendum in 1975, Tony Benn, Michael Foot, William Ross, Peter Shore, John Silkin, Barbara Castle and Eric Varley joined the campaign to leave the EU whilst staying in the cabinet,
Mr Cameron has made his path a bumpy one: with reelection far from certain, even if he does win he will have two years of laying himself open to attacks from all sides. One former minister said he had given himself a “suicide mission” by creating massive expectations even with early indications from senior Brussels officials making it clear many of the changes he wants will not be up for negotiation.
“Whatever he manages to secure from the EU, I can’t see it being enough for me and many others,” the former minister said. “It is going to create huge problems for the party if it wins the next election.”

Female Drivers in Saudi Arabia to be Sent to Terrorist Court

By A.B. Sanderson

Two women from the United Arab Emirates are on trial after falling foul of the repressive rules which women in Saudi Arabia are governed by.
Lujain al-Hathlool, 25, and Maysa al-Amoudi, 33, have been detained for nearly a month after driving into Saudi Arabia from their home country, the Times reports.
They are currently appealing against plans by the state to try them as terrorists and have been charged with “inciting public opinion”. There are concerns regarding their welfare and right to a fair trial after they were transferred to a court in the capital Riyadh which was set up to try members of al-Qaeda.
Ms Hathlool was arrested on 30th November after driving across the border from her home country. Her friend, Ms Amoudi, was detained the next day after driving into the Islamic Kingdom to bring her friend a blanket and supplies while she was incarcerated.
A source close to the case said people were “shocked” at the treatment and threats the women are facing.
“No one can understand why the government is pursuing the case like this. Saudi Arabia has bigger problems to deal with but Lujain and Maysa are seen as a threat” they said.
Saudi Arabia is the only country in the world to ban women from driving. A campaign was started in 2011 to overturn the ban and women arrested for being behind the wheel of a vehicle have been dealt with comparatively leniently.
At a hearing on Christmas Day, a judge decided that the charges were so serious that the case should be referred to the terrorist court.  An appeal will be heard within days.
One local activist who did not want to be named for their safety said, “Every day brings worse news. When she was first arrested, the inspector told Lujain she would be out in five days. This is unheard of. The case should never have got this far.”
A previous sentence of flogging,  given to a young woman driver in 2011, was overturned by King Abdullah, Another woman has been given a suspended jail term and dozens of others given fines or warnings.
The campaign, Women2Drive, shows no signs of flagging with female protesters regularly taking to the road to demonstrate against the ban. They film themselves at the wheel and post the videos online although currently, the government appears unmoved.
In 1957, Riyadh pronounced the ban on women driving. As of 2012, women’s rights in Saudi Arabia are limited compared to international standards that have prevailed for the last century.
In 1990, dozens of women in the capital drove their cars in protest against the driving ban. They were imprisoned for one day, had their passports confiscated, and some of them lost their jobs.
The court the two women look to be sent to recently sentenced a man to death over killing BBC cameraman Simon Cumbers in 2004. Back in April, prominent human rights lawyer Waleed Abu al-Khair was jailed for 15 years on the same charges facing the women.
Christoph Wilcke, of Human Rights Watch, said: “The trial of peaceful reformers in a terrorism court underlines the political nature of this court.”

Ferry catastrophe: Muslims beat women and children to save themselves

“Witnesses report about the hell ferry Norman Atlantic and tells of chaos, panic and people fighting for their own survival.
The ferry caught fire Sunday morning at. 6 local time. At that time the ferry was 61 km from the coast near Corfu.
The fire broke out on the deck, and has been impossible to extinguish. And it took 32 hours before the last person had been evacuated from the ferry.
The Greek soprano Dimitra Theodossiou was on board the ferry. She told the Italian media that she saw men beat women in order to come first to the rescue helicopter.
“It was hell. I saw some scary scenes. There were men, Iraqis, Turks, Pakistanis on the ship, who was told to sit down to allow rescuers to prioritize children, elderly and women. But they climbed, beat and pulled the people to come first to the rescue helicopter and into safety. I was also beaten. I was so furious. It was really ugly. I will never forget it.”, Said Dimitra Theodossiou.”

Denmark: Muslims beat random couple with bottle and iron chains in the face (graphic photos)

More Christmas-terror. Nanna writes on her Facebook: “The blood is streaming from my mouth, the back of my head and the other wounds. My lip is split in two, all the way up to the nose. … I do not understand.. I am left with a lot of questions. Why? Why us? What is the meaning of this extreme violence? What is happening in the head of those immigrants, when they thrash a couple that is on their way home from Christmas Eve? I am filled with hate, frustration, and sadness. I do not want them in my neighbourhood, my city, or my country.”
The answer for Nanna’s questions is the same answer to why Muslims kill, maim, rape, and persecute non-Muslims everywhere in the word: the Quran orders Muslims to do it.

“The couple from Vesterbro in Copenhagen was on their way home from Christmas Eve.
The couple was walking along around Enghaveplads (Copenhagen area known for roaming packs of Muslims) when a young guy came cyclingHe was only 16-17 yearsbut seemed veryconfrontational.

Nanna describes how the youth hits Mads in the head with a glass bottle.

She was knocked to the ground and had her face beaten with the iron chains. Thereafter, the youths ran away.
Nanna was hit directly in the face with chains and among other things she has lost a tooth and got a split lip.

The Islamization of Britain in 2014

By Soeren Kern
"Britain remains the world's leading recruiting ground for al-Qaeda." — Con Coughlin, Daily Telegraph.
When she sought help from the police and a lawyer, "the family of the defendants were insulted that she had gone to the law. They wanted her back within the family fold... Therefore, it was decided that she should be forced to comply or be killed." — Prosecutor of Ahmed A-Khatib, who murdered his wife for becoming "too westernized."
British school teachers are afraid to teach their students about Christianity out of fear of offending Muslims. — Roger Bolton, BBC Radio 4's Feedback program.
Rather than taking steps to protect British children, police, social workers, teachers... and the media deliberately played down the severity of the crimes [of Muslm sexual grooming gangs] in order to avoid being accused of "Islamophobia" or racism. — From the report "Easy Meat: Multiculturalism, Islam and Child Sex Slavery."
A group of British lawyers launched a website, Sharia Watch UK. The group called Sharia law "Britain's Blind Spot."
After Adebolajo, who murdered and tried to behead British soldier Lee Rigby with a meat cleaver, was given a "whole-life" prison term, his brother said his sibling was the victim of "Islamophobia."
"The problem of honor-based violence and forced marriages in England is "worse than people think."— — Claire Phillipson, Wearside Women in Need
The Muslim population of Britain reached 3.4 million in 2014 to become around 5.3% of the overall population of 64 million, according to figures extrapolated from a recent study on the growth of the Muslim population in Europe. In real terms, Britain has the third-largest Muslim population in the European Union, after France and Germany.
Islam and Islam-related issues were omnipresent in Britain during 2014, and can be categorized into four broad themes: 1) Islamic extremism and the security implications of British jihadists in Syria; 2) the continuing spread of Islamic Sharia law in Britain; 3) the sexual exploitation of British children by Muslim gangs; and 4) Muslim integration into British society.
What follows is a chronological review of some of the main stories involving the rise of Islam in Britain during 2014.
In January, an analysis of census data showed that nearly 10% of the babies and toddlers in England and Wales are Muslim. The percentage of Muslims among children under five is almost twice as high as in the general population. By way of comparison, fewer than one in 200 people over the age of 85 are Muslim, an indication of the extent to which the birth rate is changing the religious demographic in Britain.
Also in January, Muslim fundamentalists threatened to behead a fellow British Muslim after he posted an innocuous image of Mohammed and Jesus on his Twitter account. The death threats against Maajid Nawaz, a Liberal Democrat Party candidate for British Parliament, added to the growing number of cases in which Islamists are using intimidation tactics to restrict the free speech rights of fellow Muslims in Europe.
On January 16, a Muslim woman was arrested by counter-terrorism police at Heathrow Airport as she was preparing to board a flight to Turkey. Nawal Masaad, 26, is accused of trying to smuggle £16,500 ($27,000; €20,000) in her underwear to jihadists in Syria. She and her alleged co-conspirator, Amal El-Wahabi, 27—a Moroccan who does not work and claims British social welfare benefits for herself and two young sons—were the first British women to be charged with terrorism offenses linked to the conflict in Syria.
On January 23, the head of Scotland Yard's counter-terrorism unit, Commander Richard Walton, revealed that 14 British minors were arrested on charges linked to the Syrian conflict in January alone, compared to 24 for the whole of 2013. He said it was "almost inevitable" that some fighters would try to mount attacks in Britain upon their return.
On January 16, British Islamist Abu Waleed outlined his vision of an Islamic state in Britain, and called for Christians to be humiliated so that they would convert to Islam. In a video, he said:
"If the Muslim sees a kaffir [non-Muslim] with nice clothes, the kaffir has to take his clothes off and give them to the Muslim. The kaffir, when he walks down the street, he has to wear a red belt around his neck, and he has to have his forehead shaved, and he has to wear two shoes that are different from one another. He [the non-believer] is not allowed to walk on the pavement, he has to walk in the middle of the road, and he has to ride a mule. That is, my dear brothers, the Islamic state."
In Bristol, the city council approved a controversial plan to convert a former comedy club into a mosque. In Cambridgeshire, a Muslim group submitted plans to convert a warehouse into a new mosque. In Cambridge, locals opposed a plan to build a £17.5 million ($28.5 million; €21 million) mega-mosque, claiming it could be "a front for terrorism." In Blackburn, home to nearly 100 mosques, city councilors were urged to reject a plan to open a mosque in a residential neighborhood.
In Southend, local residents celebrated after a four-year battle resulted in the closing of an illegal mosque. In Newton Mearns, south of Glasgow, plans were abandoned to build a mosque within the grounds of a school in one of the most affluent suburbs of Scotland, due to local criticism of the move.
In Catherine-de-Barnes, a tiny village in western central England, local residents objected to plans for a large, Muslim-only cemetery, which will include space for 4,000 followers of Islam to be buried, and 75 parking spaces for visitors. The village has a population of just 613, which means the cemetery could eventually hold six-and-a-half times as many people as Catherine-de-Barnes itself.
In February, official statistics showed that net immigration to the United Kingdom surged to 212,000 in the year ending September 2013, a significant increase from 154,000 in the previous year. The new immigration data cast doubt on a pledge by Prime Minister David Cameron to get net migration—the difference between the number of people entering Britain and those leaving—down to the "tens of thousands" before the general election in May 2015.
Separately, data released by the National Crime Agency showed a 155% rise in British children groomed by sex gangs during 2013.
Also in January, a Muslim extremist who hacked a soldier to death on a London street in May 2013, launched a taxpayer-funded appeal against his murder conviction. Michael Adebolajo, 29, who tried to behead the British soldier Lee Rigby with a meat cleaver, maintained that he should not have been convicted because he is a "soldier of Allah" and therefore Rigby's killing was an act of war rather than premeditated murder.
Adebolajo and his co-defendant, Michael Adebowale, 22, were found guilty by a jury in December 2013, and were sentenced on February 26. Adebolajo was given a "whole-life" prison term and Adebowale was given a minimum term of 45 years. Adebolajo's brother said his sibling was the victim of "Islamophobia."
On February 16, The Sunday Times reported that about 250 British jihadists who went to train and fight in Syria had returned to the UK and were being monitored by the security services. Senior officials said the high number of "returnees"—five times the figure that had been previously reported—underlined the growing danger posed by "extremist tourists" going to the war-torn region. MI5 and police said they feared that "returnees" could be preparing a Mumbai-style gun attack on civilians, possibly in a crowded public place in London.
On February 14, three Muslim vigilantes who terrorized innocent members of the public as the self-styled "Muslim Patrol" were banned from promoting Sharia Law in Britain for a period of five years.
In March, British authorities launched an investigation into the source of a document that purportedly outlined a plot by Muslim fundamentalists to Islamize public schools in England and Wales. The four-page document described a strategy—dubbed Operation Trojan Horse—to oust non-Muslim head teachers and staff at state schools in Muslim neighborhoods and replace them with individuals who would run the schools according to strict Islamic principles.
Also in March, a report entitled, "Easy Meat: Multiculturalism, Islam and Child Sex Slavery," showed how officials in England and Wales were aware of rampant child grooming—the process by which sexual predators befriend and build trust with children in order to prepare them for abuse—by Muslim gangs since at least 1988. Rather than taking steps to protect British children, however, police, social workers, teachers, neighbors, politicians and the media deliberately downplayed the severity of the crimes perpetrated by the grooming gangs in order to avoid being accused of "Islamophobia" or racism.
Meanwhile, official figures revealed that record levels of Muslims are serving jail sentences and that the numbers are still growing. Across England and Wales the proportion has risen from 8% one decade ago to 14% now. In London, the figure is 27%, which is more than double the 12% of the capital's population who are Muslim.
On March 27, ITV News reported that the problem of honor-based violence and forced marriages in England is "worse than people think," but that many people are afraid of speaking out because they do not want to be branded as being "racist." Claire Phillipson from Wearside Women in Need said:
"I have no doubt that all over the North East [England] first, second, third generation English young women are being forced into marriage.
"Schools and communities are keeping silent about it, because they are concerned that they would be called racist, Islamophobic. They don't quite know where the line between culture, religion and human rights should be drawn."
On March 13, the Law Society, the main professional association representing and governing the legal profession in England and Wales, issued ground-breaking guidance to help lawyers draft Sharia-compliant wills and estate planning documents. The move effectively enshrined Islamic Sharia law in the British legal system for the first time.
In April, the British government launched a public consultation on whether or not to introduce student loans that are compliant with Islamic Sharia law, which forbids loans that involve the payment of interest.
Critics said that the dispute over interest-bearing student loans follows stepped-up demands for Sharia-compliant banking and insurance as well as credit cards, mortgages and pension funds, which—taken together—are contributing to the establishment of parallel Islamic financial and legal systems in Britain.
Separately, Lloyds Bank was accused of reverse religious discrimination after dropping overdraft fees for Muslims but not for others. The bank said that non-Muslims would have to pay up to £80 (€97, $135) a month for an overdraft, but that for Muslims "there won't be any charges."
Meanwhile, the fast food giant Subway removed ham and bacon from almost 200 outlets in Britain and switched to halal (Arabic for "permitted" or "lawful") meat alternatives, apparently in an attempt to please its Muslim customers.
On April 9, Home Secretary Theresa May published her annual report on the government's strategy for countering terrorism. The report concluded that battle-hardened British jihadists returning from the war in Syria now pose the most serious threat to British security.
On April 17, the Sheffield Crown Court found Aras Hussein, 21, guilty of beheading his girlfriend, Reema Ramzan, 18, with kitchen knife in her apartment in Sheffield in June 2013. He was sentenced to life, with a minimum of 20 years in prison.
On April 30, a jury at the Manchester Crown Court heard how Ahmed Al-Khatib, 35, murdered his wife for becoming "too westernized." The prosecution told the jury that the mother of three had been "in fear of her husband" and "believed he might one day kill her." She eventually sought help from the police and a lawyer. The prosecutor said:
"The family of the defendants were insulted that she had gone to the law. They wanted her and her children back within the family fold... Therefore, it was decided that she should either be forced to comply or be killed."
On April 19, the Charity Commission, a government agency that regulates charities in the UK, announced a crackdown on Muslim charities that send money to jihadist groups in Syria.
On April 24, British counter-terrorism officials launched a nationwide campaign aimed at encouraging Muslim women to contact the police if they were concerned that their family members or close friends might be preparing to travel to Syria to fight.
Also on April 24, a group of British lawyers launched a new organization called "Sharia Watch UK" to "highlight and expose those movements in Britain which advocate and support the advancement of Islamic law in British society." The group called Sharia law "Britain's Blind Spot."
In May, a senior adviser to Lutfur Rahman, the extremist-linked mayor of the heavily Islamized London Borough of Tower Hamlets, threatened Muslim riots unless people stop questioning the manner of his re-election. Rahman narrowly won re-election on May 23 as an independent, but the result was cast into doubt amid dozens of reports of voter intimidation and a chaotic count that took more than five days to declare a final result. Rahman was expelled from the Labour Party in 2010 after The Telegraph revealed his close links to an Islamic extremist group, the Islamic Forum of Europe.
On May 19, a jury in New York found Abu Hamza, the former imam of Finsbury Park mosque in north London, guilty on all 11 counts following a four-week trial. The one-eyed, handless Hamza was charged with organizing a terrorist camp in the US, taking hostages in Yemen and sending one of his followers from London to train with al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. The guilty verdicts followed a lengthy battle over his extradition from the UK, which began in 2004 but was only carried out in 2012. At the same time, Scotland Yard and MI5 were accused of ignoring warnings that Hamza was establishing an international hub of terrorism in London as far back as 1999. Despite Abu Hamza's conviction, Britain remains the world's leading recruiting ground for al-Qaeda.
On May 16, the Telegraph reported that Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, a British-born "ringleader" of the Islamist group Boko Haram, responsible for kidnapping hundreds of schoolgirls in Nigeria, was radicalized while studying at a British university. Ogwuche, the son of a retired Nigerian colonel, was said by fellow students at the University of Glamorgan in Wales to call himself "The Lion of Allah" and threatened to cut off the hands and feet of non-Muslims while living in the UK.
On May 9, the mother of Nicky Reilly—a convert to Islam who tried to blow up a restaurant packed with diners in Exeter in 2008—told the BBC's Radio 4 that the would-be suicide bomber was turned into "a loaded gun" by Islamic extremists in Britain. The 22-year-old changed his name to Mohammad Abdulaziz Rashid Saeed-Alim in 2004 in tribute to the jihadists who attacked New York on September 11, 2001. Kim Reilly said: "They were telling him he would be in paradise with 44 virgins, and he believed it."
On May 7, Pizza Express, a British restaurant chain, revealed that halal meat was being used in all of its chicken dishes in all of its 434 restaurants across the UK. Under Islamic law, chicken can only be eaten if the bird's throat has been slit while it is still alive. A Koranic verse is also recited during the ritual. On May 15, it emerged that at least a dozen top universities, including Oxford University, have been secretly serving halal meat to unsuspecting students.
On May 30, a Somalian doctor with a practice in Birmingham was struck off the medical register after he was found by a medical malpractice tribunal to have told an undercover reporter how to arrange female genital mutilation abroad for her two nieces.
In June, Tablighi Jamaat, a radical Islamic group committed to "perpetual jihad" to spread Islam around the world, edged one step closer to building one of the world's largest mosques in London after a star Muslim opponent of the controversial project was intimidated into silence. The proposed mega-mosque would be built on a 16-acre site near the Olympic Stadium, and would have a capacity for more than 9,000 worshippers.
On June 17, British Prime Minister David Cameron warned that British citizens and other Europeans fighting alongside Islamist insurgents in Iraq and Syria posed the biggest threat to Britain's national security.
But on June 22, the Financial Times reported: "The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has halved its counter-terrorism budget even as officials warn of the most severe threat to the UK from overseas terror groups since the London bombings in 2005."
Also on June 22, the Sunday Times reported that British jihadists are faking their deaths on the battlefield in Syria in an attempt to return to the UK undetected. In one instance, the martyrdom of a fighter in Syria was announced by his colleagues on social media, only for police to arrest the "dead" individual at the port town of Dover.
The Times also reported that a British jihadist using the nom de guerre Abu Rashash Britani recently posted a message on Twitter that said: "When we establish khilafah [an Islamic state], a battalion of mujahideen shud head to UK & capture David Cameron & Theresa May n behead them both :)"
Another jihadist from Birmingham named Junaid Hussain tweeted that the "black flag of jihad" will soon fly over Downing Street. He also tweeted: "Imagine if someone were to detonate a bomb at voting stations or ambushed the vans that carry the casted votes. It would mess the whole system up." Hussain re-tweeted a warning from a like-minded countryman for British people to "watch out," because "we'll come back to the UK and wreak havoc."
Meanwhile, a 19-year-old jihadist from Portsmouth named Muhammad Hassan promised a "killing spree" of British citizens if he were ever to return to Britain.
On June 16, a new law entered into effect which makes forced marriage a self-standing criminal offense in England and Wales and is punishable by up to seven years in prison. Research commissioned by the government estimates that up to 8,000 young women in Britain are the victims of forced marriages each year, but charities say the actual number is far higher because many victims are afraid to come forward.
On June 12, the BBC reported that some Muslim families in Britain have begun hiring bounty hunters to track down the victims of forced marriage who try to run away.
On June 25, Britain became the first Western nation to issue Islamic bonds, completing a plan that was more than seven years in the making. Investors placed £2.3 billion ($3.9 billion) of orders, more than 11 times the amount of bonds on offer.
On June 24, the Minister of State for Universities and Science, David Willetts, said that a Sharia-compliant alternative to the conventional student loan could become available in the UK beginning in 2016. He said: "It would be a tragedy if any student, particularly a Muslim student because of concerns about so-called interest rates, were put off from going to university." He added: "This does not mean we are introducing Sharia law in the UK."
On June 6, the British Ministry of Defense (MoD) admitted that non-Muslim soldiers are unknowingly being fed halal meat on military bases.
Also in June, an investigation found that all of the chicken and lamb meat being served at the University of Warwick is halal. A first-year student commented:
"It's disgusting that only Islamic meat is provided and no others. How is it acceptable for me to eat blessed meat of another religion that is different to my own? To effectively impose a monopoly on my choice leads me to question whether their religion (Islam) is prioritized over my own."
On June 9, government inspectors found that the library at Olive Tree Primary School, a Muslim school in Luton, included books that advocate stoning and lashing. Leaders of the school accused the inspectors of "Islamophobia."
In July, analysts at SITE, a group that monitors radical Islamic propaganda, reported that a growing number of British women have moved to Syria to raise children under the Islamic State. One such woman is Aqsa Mahmood, a 20-year-old woman from Glasgow, Scotland who left for Syria in November 2013.
Mahmood attended private schools and had wanted to become a doctor, but she dropped out of university without warning and vanished overnight in order to become a jihadist and marry an IS fighter. Using the jihadist name of Umm Layth (Arabic for "Mother of the Lion") Mahmood uses social media to encourage other British Muslim women to leave their families behind and join the jihad in Syria. She wrote: "Once you arrive in the land of jihad, the Islamic State is your family."
On July 3, the Inner London Crown Court sentenced six Muslims to a combined 36 years in prison for attacking two black men with a baseball bat because they were not Muslim. Judge Ian Darling said: "Not only was there a religious aspect to this offense, but there was an undoubted racial element."
On July 4, a British jihadist who uses the nom de guerre Abu Osama told the BBC's Radio 5:
"If and when I come back to Britain it will be when this Khilafah, the Islamic state, comes to conquer Britain, and I come to raise the black flag of Islam over Downing Street, over Buckingham Palace, over Tower Bridge and over Big Ben."
On July 6, a British jihadist using the alias Abu Dugma al-Britani, warned that the Islamic State would capture Downing Street and hold executions in Trafalgar Square. Using Twitter, he wrote: "Downing Street will be a base for Muslims. Trafalgar Square is where public executions will take place. Army of Islamic State is coming."
On July 8, Lord Richard Scott, a former British Supreme Court judge, called on Christians to marry Muslims to tackle Islamophobia. He said:
"Of my two sons one has become a Muslim and of my two daughters one of those has become a Muslim, and I have 12 lovely grandchildren, seven of whom are little Muslims.
"The family relationships since those events took place have been as happily familial, as close and as good as any parent or grandparent could wish.
"I do just wonder that if an improvement is needed between the faith groups, one way of promoting that might be to encourage interfaith marriages."
On July 14, a Muslim checkout worker at a Tesco supermarket in London refused to sell non-Muslim customer ham and wine because it was Ramadan. The checkout clerk told Julie Cottle that he would not touch the items because they are considered forbidden by Islam and advised her to use the self-service tills instead. When Cottle complained to the manager, he backed the worker's right to refuse to serve her because it was the holy month of Ramadan and he was fasting. Tesco later apologized for the incident and said the worker had been "spoken to."
On July 18, a government report leaked to the Guardian revealed that a group of Islamic fundamentalists, mostly men of Pakistani origin, infiltrated the management of at least ten schools in Birmingham, sometimes breaking the law in order to introduce Muslim worship and sex segregation. Their activities were unimpeded by council officials who were fearful of allegations of Islamophobia and who forced ousted teachers to sign gagging clauses rather than treating their complaints seriously as whistleblowers.
On July 28, the Star City entertainment complex in Birmingham barred non-Muslims from entering a cinema because they were not celebrating the Islamic festival Eid. One non-Muslim complained on Facebook:
"My friends family have just been refused entry at VUE cinema as they are not Muslim this is a shocking disgrace. If the shoe was on the other foot there would be uproar. Can you imagine banning all Muslims to star city because it's Christmas."
In August, data released by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) showed that Mohammed was the most popular given to boys born in Britain in 2013. Although the ONS claimed that Oliver was the top name with 6,949 boys, it was in fact Mohammed when the top three spellings for the name (Muhammad, 3,499; Mohammed, 2,887 and Mohammad, 1,059) are combined to yield 7,445 boys.
On August 21, it emerged that there are now more British Muslims fighting for the Islamic State than for Britain's military.
On August 23, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Carey, warned that radical Islam is on the rise and "imperiling our way of life, threatening to undermine the values that have been bitterly won over the centuries." He called on Britons to "recover a confidence in our own nation's values. For too long we have been self-conscious and even ashamed about British identity." He added:
"By embracing multiculturalism and the idea that every culture and belief is of equal value we have betrayed our own traditions of welcoming strangers to our shore.
"The fact is that for too long the doctrine of multiculturalism has led to immigrants establishing completely separate communities in our cities. This has led to honor killings, female genital circumcision and the establishment of sharia law in inner-city pockets throughout the UK."
On August 26, Alexis Jay, the leader of an independent inquiry in the sexual abuse of children in Rotherham, released a horrifying report that found that gangs of mainly Muslim men of Pakistani heritage had groomed, terrorized and abused at least 1,400 girls, some as young as 11, in Rotherham over a 16-year period between 1997 and 2013.
On August 31, the Independent on Sunday reported that a House of Commons committee would launch an investigation into whether Tony Blair's Labour government knew about the Rotherham child abuse scandal as far back as 2001, but refused to act because of his government's desire to pacify Muslim communities.
On August 30, a straw poll conducted by the BBC's Saturday Morning Live Show found that 95% of respondents said that they think multiculturalism in Britain is a failure.
In September, new census data showed that the number of Muslim children in Birmingham was greater than the number who are Christian for the first time. Of Birmingham's 278,623 children, 97,099 were registered as Muslim and 93,828 as Christian. There were also 54,343 children who were recorded as following no religion, showing the rising trend of atheism in the country.
On September 12, London Deputy Mayor Stephen Greenhalgh warned that London children under the age of ten are being "trained to be junior jihadis," a disturbing sign of the growing extremist threat in the capital. He said:
"It's pretty horrendous when you hear how some of these children are being radicalized. The threat of radicalization of young people is real and this is a problem that is going to be with us not just for a couple of years, but for the next generation."
On September 5, it emerged that networks of Islamic radicals are recruiting British jihadists through mosques and prayer centers. Previously, most British jihadists were recruited via online networks. But a combination of a Turkish border clampdown and a focus by counter-terrorist police on taking down online networks has made recruitment on the ground more important.
On September 3, eight Muslim men were charged with sexually abusing girls under the age of 16. The charges followed series of police raids involving 120 officers in the Thames Valley. On September 9, five Muslim men went on trial in Sheffield, accused of trafficking a 13-year-old girl for sex.
On September 10, the government announced that Muslim students will be offered Sharia-compliant interest free student loans in an effort to get more Islamic pupils to go to university.
In September, a customer at a Leicester branch of KFC was refused a hand-wipe as it might offend Muslims. Graham Noakes, 41, said staff at the fast food chain's outlet in St George's retail park refused to give him a hand-wipe because it was against its halal policy. Staff said this was because the wipes are soaked in an alcohol-infused liquid and alcohol is forbidden in the Koran.
In October, a 75-year-old retiree was arrested for "racism" after saying "I'm not Muslim" when he was asked to remove his shoes at security at Stansted Airport. Paul Griffith was charged with causing "racially or religiously aggravated harassment, alarm or distress."
In October, a taxi company in Rochdale, a town tainted by a child sex-grooming scandal perpetrated by Muslim gangs, began offering customers "white" or "local" drivers on demand. The move came after two local drivers of Pakistani origin were jailed for their part in the rape and trafficking of young white girls.
On October 23, the BBC reported that a memorial for Lee Rigby, a British soldier who was murdered by two Muslim converts in May 2013, will not bear his name. Greenwich Council said a stone would be placed in St George's Chapel garden, opposite Woolwich Barracks where Rigby was based, but that the memorial would pay tribute to all fallen servicemen and woman. Local MP Nick Raynsford said that a Rigby memorial would attract "undesirable interest from [Islamic] extremists."
On October 16, a new report showed that in just six months, nearly 2,000 women and girls in England were treated by the National Health Service after undergoing female genital mutilation (FGM). In September alone, 467 female patients in England were newly identified as having been subjected to FGM. The data published by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) were the first official figures to have been published on the numbers of FGM cases seen in hospitals in England.
On October 30, a new study found that child sexual exploitation has become "the social norm" in many parts of Greater Manchester. The report—Real Voices, Child Sexual Exploitation In Greater Manchester—estimated that nearly 650 children reported missing in towns across Greater Manchester in 2014 were at risk of child sexual exploitation or serious harm. But despite almost 13,000 reports of child sex abuse in the past six years, only about 1,000 people have been convicted. The report's author—Labour MP Ann Coffey—was criticized for failing to address the fact that many street grooming gangs are made up of Muslim men. She said it would be "wrong" to focus on "Asian" gangs targeting teenage girls.
On October 30, a Populus survey found that one in seven young British adults has "warm feelings" towards Islamic State. A tenth of Londoners and one in 12 Scots view Islamic State (Isis) favorably, but sympathy for the militant group reaches its highest levels among the under-25s.
In November, British police foiled an Islamist plot to behead Queen Elizabeth at a Remembrance Day event at the Cenotaph, a war memorial situated on Whitehall in London.
In London Borough of Croydon, a couple from Afghanistan threatened to kill their daughter if she rejected a forced marriage and to behead her if she contacted authorities for help.
On November 5, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, told an international terrorism conference that his officers are "struggling to cope" with the speed of immigration and because many of those coming to Britain speak different languages and hold different views of authority.
On November 16, senior officials at Scotland Yard advised British police officers not to wear their uniforms on the way to and from work amid concerns that Islamic extremists are plotting to target them on the streets.
On November 10, The Times reported that British intelligence officials warned senior ministers that the scale of terrorist activity is so great that an attack is "almost inevitable" in the coming months.
On November 26, the British government unveiled sweeping new counter-terrorism measures which—if approved by Parliament—would give the United Kingdom some of the "toughest powers in the world" to fight Islamic terrorism.
On November 12, the BBC reported that the British Islamist Abu Rumaysah skipped bail after being arrested on terrorism charges and is thought to be in Syria, despite being banned from leaving the UK. Rumaysah left London on a bus bound for Paris after blundering police failed to confiscate his passport. On November 2, 60 Minutes aired an interview with Rumaysah, who said:
"Ultimately, I want to see every single woman in this country [Britain] covered from head to toe. I want to see the hand of the thief cut. I want to see the adulterer stoned to death. I want to see Sharia law in Europe. And I want to see it in America, as well. I believe our [Sharia] patrols are a means to an end."
On November 1, a new report by Sharia Watch UK exposed the activities of Islamist speakers on British university campuses. The report—Learning Jihad—documented how Islamists are making anti-Semitic remarks, deriding Western notions of Human Rights, advocating female genital mutilation and calling for a raft of strict Sharia punishments such as stoning adulterers to death.
On November 11, the new Muslim owner of the exclusive Bermondsey Square Hotel in London abruptly banned alcohol and pork from the bar and grill at the hotel in order to run it "in accordance with Sharia law." The £220 ($340)-a-night hotel is believed to be one of the first in the UK to introduce the strict Muslim policy, but staff said the changes have caused business to plummet, with many reservations cancelled.
Also on November 11, it was reported that thousands of Muslim school children in East Lancashire were being offered a pork-based vaccine as part of a major new flu immunization program. The new nasal spray, which is made with gelatin derived from pigs, is part of a pilot project, but Muslim leaders complained that the decision not to offer an alternative was "outrageous" because they consider the spray to be 'haram' or sinful. Public Health England, which is leading the project, said in a statement: "There is no suitable alternative to [the porcine-based] Fluenz [vaccine]."
On November 13, police in Manchester arrested 13 members of human trafficking gang after a pregnant woman was duped into travelling to England before being sold into a sham Sharia law marriage. The 20-year-old Slovakian woman, who was 25 weeks pregnant, was tricked into flying to Luton airport in May believing that she would be able to meet her sister. After meeting a man at the airport who claimed to be her sister's friend, however, she was taken to an address in Oldham. She then discovered that she had been sold to a Muslim man who had paid the gang £15,000 (€19,000; $23,000) to provide her a sham marriage. Police say the purpose of the marriage, which took place under a Sharia ceremony in Rochdale in July, was to improve the man's chances of avoiding deportation from the UK.
On November 10, the BBC reported that police in Rotherham not only ignored, but actively obstructed investigations into child abuse victims, apparently because the perpetrators were Muslim. On November 19, the Birmingham Mail reported that the Birmingham City Council "buried" a politically incorrect government-funded report that revealed to sexual exploitation of young white girls by Muslim men. The author of the report, Jill Jesson, told the newspaper that the report was never published and all copies were to be destroyed. She said:
"I was employed to do the work because I think they thought I would be objective," she said. "I was told to reveal what I saw. I did – and some people didn't like it.
"Every time a news item has come on about sexual grooming of young girls and girls in care, and the link, too, between private hire drivers, I have thought, 'I told them about that in 1991 but they didn't want to acknowledge it.' I think the problem has got worse and worse over time."
On November 24, the Law Society withdrew controversial guidelines for lawyers on how to draft "Sharia compliant" wills amid complaints that they encouraged discrimination against women and non-Muslims. The guidelines advised lawyers on how to write Islamic wills in a way that would be recognized by courts in England and Wales. They set out principles which meant that women could be denied an equal share of inheritances while unbelievers could be excluded altogether.
In December, a radio presenter for the BBC Radio 4's Feedback program, Roger Bolton, wrote an article for the Radio Times, a weekly magazine, in which he warned that British school teachers are afraid to teach their students about Christianity out of fear of offending Muslims. Bolton said that this was creating a generation of British youth who are ignorant about Christian culture and its role in British history. He cited a study that found that a quarter of British children indicated that they have never read, seen or heard of Noah's Ark,' that a similar proportion had never heard of the Nativity, that 43% had never heard of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and that 53% had never read, seen or heard of Joseph and his coat of many colors.
On December 10, a new report by a human rights group exposed the vulnerability of Muslim women living in Islamic "marriages" in the UK. The report—Equal and Free? 50 Muslim Women's Experiences of Marriage in Britain Today—found that the widespread practice of polygamy has left Muslim women without legal rights upon "divorce," entirely dependent on their "husbands" for financial support, and often unable to leave sham "marriages" for fear of social ostracism or bringing "shame" to their family.
On December 11, the House of Lords held debates on female genital mutilation (FGM) and the "impact of Sharia Law on the United Kingdom." Lord Faulks, Minister of State for Civil Justice and Legal Policy, cited research which "revealed that approximately 60,000 girls are at risk of FGM in the UK." In the following debate, Baroness Cox said: "The establishment of Sharia courts or councils in this country has promoted the application of gender-discriminatory provisions in ways which are currently causing considerable distress for many women." She also asked why "polygamy is allowed to flourish" in Britain even though bigamy is illegal.
Finally, December saw the launch of the faceless "Deeni Doll," (deeni is Arabic for "faith") which is adorned with a traditional hijab headdress, but has no nose, mouth, or eyes, in order to comply with Islamic rulings regarding the depictions of facial features. The toy, which retails for £25 ($40), was designed by a former teacher at a Muslim school in Lancashire. She said:
"I came up with the idea from scratch after speaking to some parents who were a little concerned about dolls with facial features. Some parents won't leave the doll with their children at night because you are not allowed to have any eyes in the room. There is an Islamic ruling which forbids the depiction of facial features of any kind and that includes pictures, sculptures and, in this case, dolls."
