Cottbus / Germany: Social workers are generally not taken seriously by refugees

After the violent clashes between refugees and Germans in the city of Cottbus, Mayor Holger Kelch (CDU) has called for more support from the state and the federal government. Parents of refugee children sometimes do not know what is going on in the schools because of language barriers, Kelch said on Thursday in the domestic politics committee of the state parliament in Potsdam. Individual fled families refused contact with social workers. Employees of the city administration are only respected if they go into the family in uniform,"Kelch explained. Social workers are generally not taken seriously, and Cottbus is not up to the task at present if it comes to family reunification. In recent months, there have been repeated conflicts in the city between mostly young Germans and Syrians.
