Gelsenkirchen / Germany: Anti-semitic vandalism in the Buer district

From Thursday, 10 May 2018 to Sunday, 13 May 2018, previously unknown persons forcibly removed the memorial plaque in honour of Emil Kochmann on Nienhofstrasse, near house no. 34, in the district of Buer. Emil Kochmann was a Jewish notary and lawyer who lived in Buer with his family of five. His office flourished, his family belonged to the respected bourgeois circles in Buer. He was arrested by the Nazi regime in 1942, deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau and murdered there. The state police have started their investigation. Witnesses are sought who can provide information about the crime and/or the perpetrator(s). For relevant information please call 0209/365-8501 (Police) and -8240
