Germany: Robber and sex offender -- Asylum seeker from Africa detained

The public prosecutor's office in Stuttgart and the criminal police headquarters in Esslingen are investigating a 21-year-old asylum seeker living in the town of Oberboihingen on suspicion of attempted robbery and sexual assault. The well-known Gambian man, who has a criminal record for violent and property offences, is now in custody. The 21-year-old is accused of having entered the room of a 90-year-old woman in a nursing home in Wendlingen on the morning of the 26th May 2018. There he is said to have indecently molested the sleeping senior citizen. When she woke up and defended the man, he tried to pull the wedding ring off her finger. When he failed to do so, he abandoned her and took a flat screen TV. The alarmed staff immediately followed the suspect, who noticed, left the TV behind and continued his escape. In this pursuit, the attendants managed to take a picture of the suspect. Time and personnel intensive investigations of the criminal police led now to the identification of the man. After a search warrant and an arrest warrant could be obtained from the Stuttgart district court, the investigators searched his refugee accommodation in Oberboihingen on Friday morning. The man could be found there and provisionally arrested. During the search, his clothes worn at the time and his distinctive necklace were also found and seized. On Friday afternoon, he was brought before the magistrate at the Stuttgart District Court, who executed the arrest warrant. The 21-year-old was taken to a prison.
