Germany: Violent clash between Africans and Afghans -- Several people seriously injured

A joint press release of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Passau Criminal Police issued on Friday, 3rd of August 2018, 23.15 h, concerning a violent confrontation in an asylum seeker's accommodation in the district of Passau. At the time of the crime, there was a violent clash between asylum seekers from Africa and an Afghan family in an asylum shelter. In the course of this, several people were injured, some of them seriously, but fortunately not life-threateningly. According to initial investigations, a knife was involved. Three participants were treated on an outpatient basis at the Klinikum Passau and the Hospital Waldkirchen. In the course of the investigation, five persons were arrested and released after consultation with the public prosecutor's office. The dispute escalated initial information due to differences of opinion regarding the repair of a bicycle in the corridor of the shared asylum accommodation. The investigation was taken over by the Passau criminal police on the night of the crime and is still ongoing.
