The “Yellow Vests” movement, protests across the country since the 17th of November sparked by the tax rise on fuel, has partly concentrated on Macron’s unpopularity.
Populist Rassemblement National leader Marine Le Pen has supported the Yellow Vests. According to the figures by pollsters BVA, Le Pen now polls higher than Macron, Le Pen has 27 per cent with Macron only 26 per cent.
France is in the midst of great turmoil over Macron’s fuel tax rise. This has added to the feeling of his being out of touch and working for the elites.
