Attack on the monks of Vienna: "In the church the ground was full of blood."


For hours on Thursday afternoon, five monks of a Vienna monastery church were tortured by two unknown robbers. Around 1.30 p.m. the armed duo allegedly stormed the Catholic church Maria Immaculata in Anton Böck Gasse.In an interview with "Heute.at", Nikolaus Baldrmann, a house technician, tells the story of the dramatic scenes that took place in the church: "The monks have been very badly battered. I was told that the ground in the church was full of blood," Baldrmann said. One of the monks was accidentally caught in the current raid. The armed men had immediately told him to lie down on the ground, with the others, Baldrmann continued. The house technician explains why the alarm was triggered so late: "It must have taken the monks quite some time to free themselves, or even to dare to move around and make an emergency call.
