After a sexual assault on a nine-year-old girl in Roßlau, the District Court of Dessau-Roßlau issued an arrest warrant against a suspect from Niger on Monday afternoon. The 27-year-old is under investigation on suspicion of serious sexual abuse. The man was taken to prison on Monday. The police and public prosecutor's office did not provide any further information on the case in order to protect the child.The assault took place on Sunday morning in the Elbe meadows on Süd street. The man is said to have pushed the girl onto an uncut lawn and undressed her. Walkers had heard cries for help around 10.30 a.m. and had walked in that direction. The girl could free herself exactly in this moment. The man fled with a blue mountain bike in the direction of the Roßlauer water castle.The police initiated a large-scale search and also requested a helicopter to support them from the air. The helicopter circled over Roßlau for a long time. In the end, the man could be caught and overwhelmed by several witnesses in the Lukoer Street around 01.45 pm. It is said that pepper spray was also used. The police arrested the suspect a short time later.The attack had caused great stir on Whitsunday in Roßlau. On Sunday, numerous people from Dessau-Roßlau had shared and circulated a hastily published manhunt on Facebook and had also searched for the suspect themselves. Also the helicopter circling over the city caused a lot of calls for information.After the arrest of the suspect, there had been a spontaneous rally in Roßlau around 6 pm. The meeting point was the train station in Roßlau. Under the banner "Protect our children" about 120 people passed through Roßlau according to police. The rally remained peaceful.The asylum seeker from Niger is to be tolerated. A toleration does not provide a foreigner with legal residence in Germany. According to newspaper MZ, the toleration of the suspected man was to expire on the 18th of June.
